Valentina Sandu I remember when they were all at Sting’s estate in France filming the All This Time performance when 9/11 happened. The gathering they respectfully had the minute the news hit the world about what happened. Cheb was there to perform with them but the option to leave and safely return home before the inevitable outrage directed at anyone of Middle Eastern heritage is what he rightfully chose to do. I’m sorry he was not there. Sting began with Fragile and after a moment of silence, continued with what turned out to be a stunning performance. One of my all time favorites!

Sting was one of the music makers who had something to say musically. This crossover was genius ! Mixing western pop music with arabic influence was to many people at the time like mixing oil with water; not to Sting.

When I was in Southern Spain our radio would tune in Arabic stations from Northern Africa. I love the way it sounds even if I don’t understand one word. The voice of this man is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.

Hey Sting...bury the hatchet you have with Mami, and invite him on stage again to sing with you. Everyone makes mistakes. 2004 was the last time they sang this song together live, we are sorely overdue to see them sing this together again.
