I'm standing here next to my dad who just passes away about an hour ago. This song came to my mind because as the sun rose the rays came thru the window so bright the nurse came and said she'd never seen it so bright in any of the rooms. She looked at me and said im sorry your dad has passed. I know now why it was so bright in here. God had opened the pathway for him to cross over into Heaven today 8/9/2022 1 day after his 83rd Bday. Love you always dad.. Sidney Beckom R.I.P.

Sometimes a song can mean EXACTLY what helps a person get through their rough, happy, or experience they are facing at that time.( It's not going to change the meaning from the person who wrote the song) Sometimes we just have to let people have their moment of getting through.I have really had an experience reading the difference meaning of you all and it was amazing. Have a peaceful day to all of you.

This song is not about death. It’s about passion, ecstasy. He loves her so much that she takes him to paradise. But I can see where it can be interpreted in a different way. Because it doesn’t matter what song Eddie sings. He will take you to church y’all…. So I guess that it is open for interpretation, and discussion. This is what makes it a great song. And this is what makes The O’Jays The Mighty O’Jays. Let’s give them their flowers now y’all.🙏🏾

My 10 y.o grandson asked for this as his song choice. It speaks volumes. He's had a good loving environment; but his mother treats him poorly for no reason. He has to witness his younger brother get preferential treatment and still he's his protector. You couldn't ask für a better big brother despite the incredible lack of concern from his mom. That's where his aunt, great grandparents and myself give him the attention, love and care he needs. I was flooded with tears when I his aunt told me he requested this song. The same day, his mother spitefully removed him and his brother from our home where he knew he was secure and safe. Pray for him, them and US!! My next step is get him back. My daughter, his mother has no stable home other than the one she chose to leave. It touched me too deeply. That's the fire I need to put all my energies into getting them to a safe haven again.

This song is about making love being an analogy for heaven. BUT we certainly feel a spiritual connection to the song because the OJays deliver it in such a masterful way. Plus it's one of those songs that helps define the Black American experience. I love the nostalgia AND I love the use of heaven as a metaphor for making love. THE MIGHTY OJAYS🔥🔥🔥

People lyrics can mean different things than what the songwriter intended. There's many songs that put a spiritual meaning to it. If it gives people comfort then let the be. Stop being so literal with song lyrics and narrow-minded. I love the song.

One of my favorite R&B memories from college days. The O'Jays will always have something that will never be duplicated. The current crop of singers just haven't lived what we lived and they are mere artifacts of their parents who catered to their every want and need. Long live the 70's!!!

To everyone struggling with the “lost” of a loved one, smile and remember all the good memories you’ve had with them. Please don’t be sad yet REJOICE in the transition of life! 🌅 The circle of life is VERY real. Ever experienced something that made you think of someone? Ever smell something that made you think of your grandmother? Light flicker in your house? Or even more, ever meet someone that reminded you of someone you just couldn’t put your finger on it? Children with old soul? THE CIRCLE OF LIFE love. They are with us! Cry but enjoy their presence in your life everyday. Then, now, forever more 💜

Agreed. It is clearly about making love, not dying and going to heaven. The title is just a metaphor. He even says "It's gonna be JUST LIKE going home", "walking the road of ecstasy", "stealing a moment of pleasure" and "taking the load of this world off our shoulders.". These lines would make no sense if the song were about death, loss and bereavement.

I live my life trying to be a kind and forgiving person just like her and love the Lord with all my heart and soul and lean not unto thine own understanding but in all thy ways acknowledge him and he will direct thy path.
