THE OLD BYRD FARM

THE OLD BYRD FARM

2 ай бұрын

In this Old Byrd Farm video, I'm tackling a big project: cleaning out the front room of my 140-year-old house. Over time, this room has turned into a catch-all for junk and a storage space for building supplies. As part of my ongoing plan to rebuild the floors in this historic house, it's time to clear it out and get organized. Join me as I sort through the clutter, make some surprising discoveries, and take another step toward restoring this beautiful old home. #OldByrdFarm #HistoricHomeRestoration #Decluttering #HomeProjects

If you live in the South like we do, air conditioning is essential as far as I am concerned. Yes, you can live without it (I have in the past), but it really makes a difference in terms of your energy level and your mental outlook. Thank you, Mr. Carrier!

I can't live without air conditioning! Nope. My first two cars had no ac. SE NC here. But, hurricanes solidified my need of AC!! Maybe I'm spoiled, but I'm ok with that when it comes to this matter. 😂 On a different note, really impressed with all the hard work on the house!!

I found out that thrifted tablecloths make great curtains. Use clip on rings, easy to change out. You can find small to XL tablecloths, even round cloths can be cut in 1/2 and made into a festoon. Cheap😊

I got excited seeing those old books! What a treasure! You're going to love going through them. Well, that many generations of storage will certainly build up. Makes it a treasure trove for a historian.😉 It's wonderful to see your progress. Yes, shout out to your young intern.🎉 It's nice that you have help. Take care!😊

Not surprisingly, this room also has great light. That curtain situation in the showroom makes me sad only because it blocks all the amazing light that streams in there. Watching the light move through a house throughout the day is the best - but not if you are dying of heat stroke, I guess! Especially excited to find out Scott will be back soon. I'm sure I don't speak only for myself when I say we've all been waiting very patiently for him to show up again and get those hallway floors put in. He's so meticulous and makes sure everything is done right. That room is going to be absolutely fantastic once he's through with it. Can't wait to get back there and take the next progress shot. Hurry back, Scott!!

Thanks! Mr. Robert. Enjoyed your clean up. What caught my eye was the little book, M/E Church South. Many of my Mothers line were members of that group. I bought a copy online to read. Look forward to it. I can visualize my 2nd Great Grandfather Walters reading that book. He was a Circuit rider for the M/E Church- South as he traveled from Franklin County, GA. To Eastland County, Texas.

I don't know the full story. I know the house was not lived in for 20 or 30 years prior to Robert's attempt to restore the farm. He inherited it from his grandmother when she passed a few years back. Somehow when people knew that the house was basically abandoned "unknowns" started dumping their trash in the house. That's how alot of the stuff ended up in the house. It sounds like there were renters in it for awhile too, before it was abandoned. I don't know when the past generations of Robert's lived in the house, but Robert every so often mentions childhood memories of the Old Byrd Farm, maybe when his grandmother lived there. She didn't live there at the time of her death though and I don't know when and why the family moved away from there. That's all I got!

I lived in a Victorian for awhile and the windows were 8 feet tall. Buying ready made curtains were too expensive for my budget but I found that buying flat sheets worked remarkably well. They were already hemmed and I could get them for almost nothing at thrift shops. Something to consider when the day comes when you get to furnishing the farm house. Keep up the good work.

Don't know if you've ever experienced the Georgia heat (I'm from Washington state) but there's nothing like it! You walk out from an air conditioned hotel and it hits you in the face like a wall! Robert, nice that you did a nice clean up and found a few other things that you will be keeping in that spare room, and looking forward to the hallway flooring going in. Don't forget to put the wood back into the house, that will be the joist for the hallway, you do not want to leave them outside. The air consitiong will not be working to full due to the floor in the hallway be gone now, and all the air going right back out, form there and from what ever panes in the windows you have to replace. ONLY way that one room will cool off, is to keep those doors closed on that room. as with the door on the other room that you [ for now ] call the showroom. God continue to bless you and all there.

Maybe cover ur "holy" windows up (just where missing panes are) with a piece of cardboard til u can get the replacement panes in. If that air unit has an adjustment where u can have it blowing out the front rather than the top of the unit .. that would help cool better. House isn't insulated well enuf to blow up towards ceiling I don't think plus those ceilings are high up. If no adjustment exists, then make you makeshift air diverter out of cardboard layered with foil (foil helps shape & direct) & tape it above where the current vents are. Anyway maybe that would help. Hopefully I didn't confuse the issue 😬
