About the Event:
DSWF were delighted to host Wildlife Artist of the Year Judge and our long-time supporter, Hazel Soan, for a demonstration and exploration into the wonderful world of watercolour.
Think of it as an African watercolour safari. You can experience Hazel’s unique style and watch LIVE as she recreates beautiful African landscapes and wildlife before your very eyes.
About Hazel:
Hazel Soan is one of Britain’s most admired watercolourists, well-known internationally through her numerous books, DVD films and social media, and through her television roles on mainstream painting programmes such as “Watercolour Challenge” and “Splash of Colour”.
Hazel has been represented through many solo and mixed exhibitions and her work is held in public, corporate and private collections, including the National Portrait Gallery, Embassies, The BBC, and major London hospitals, international hotels and finance houses. She is known for her direct wet-into-wet watercolour approach, use of rich pigment and strong contrasts of light and shade, developed directly from painting in the African Bush.
Hazel has a longstanding involvement with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and has been one of the judges of The Wildlife Artist of the Year (WAY) Competition since its inception. Her enthusiasm for painting and the ability to inspire others to paint has taken her around the

I am desparing myself trying to paint a decent shape of an animal that vagly resembles it and the person in the video asks a question about the water holder brand as if it was the secret to paint amazing paintings. It would be nice if they had asked how Hazel correct her mistakes when she said that if she feels that the shape is not right she wipes it off. How?

Dear Hazel, The first color you use is it yellow ochre in painting the elements? As I can't find yellow ochre like yours , a bit orangy

Hazel Soan is a great teacher...however, I'm not sure natural bristle watercolor brushes made from animal fur is appropriate for a demonstration for a wildlife foundation. When artists talk about their paint brushes they often forget that an animal has actually died to make that brush.
