Today we're taking a look an a pretty remarkable new AI Screenwriting platform that solves a lot of issues ChatGpt and other AI LLMs have with creating longer written pieces, be it screenplays or novels.
I'm taking a deep dive into it, and honestly I think it is a pretty stellar use of AI, and NOT because it auto generates script pages.
This even gives me the change to finally write that Bruce Lee Terminator film we talked about in our Dall-E 3 video earlier this week!
I'll also be taking a look at some advancements in LLMs, namely one that might (hopefully) make is less forgetful!
And, a new piece of wearable AI tech that will remember everything for you!

Thanks, this looks awesome. I definitely like the idea of using it as a super fast and rough first draft. And it's a great way to get all of your ideas together and help you think of the things you forgot to think about. If that makes sense.

Totally does! I think it's a pretty fantastic way of quickly seeing if an idea has legs too. Like, occasionally, I'll have a cool idea, but as soon as you start writing it, you realize...oh, this makes no sense. I do like the GenAi aspect as well...like the Bruce Lee Terminator thing, it actually MIGHT have an idea you didn't see coming!

10:15 - You nailed it right there. As one who has written quite a bit, including screenplays, this is key. I would also clarify that Plotdot is, for whatever the reason, writing a shooting script, not a spec script. That is, it's including things like camera direction, which any budding writer needs to leave out if they are submitting a script to a contest, production company, studio, etc.

It seems to be a great way to learn how to structure a screenplay. I see a lot of that in early scriptwriters, they’ve got a killer 1st act, and know how it ends- but that second act is usually a mess.

One of the things I really like about PlotDot is that it really makes you think about the structure. From my early days of scriptwriting, I know that a lot of time that moment of inspiration is more like a "trailer" for a story you'd like to write. But if you try to work with JUST that, you'll quickly find there really isn't enough meat on those bones to fill 120 pages!

Thanks for another fantastic video my friend! This is awesome, I've using ChatGPT to help write my Spider Gates series, but you're right about it tripping out, even with me giving it more details. I have pretty much written the story in my head. I just use the chatbot to help with dialogue, but it does still take a ton of work, mostly keeping it on track with the overall story. @TheoreticallyMedia
@TheoreticallyMedia 8 ай бұрын
So, there’s probably a MUCH smarter way to do this, but basically: I record the screen with OBS. Mic audio goes in to OBS. I also record video with my DSLR and just a regular mic. Take both videos into Premiere and sync the audio. My DSLR footage on top of my OBS screen footage. When I need that Picture in Picture look, I just create a circle mask around my DSLR footage and manually pop it in a corner. I was thinking about picking up a streamdeck, or figuring out how to automate it in OBS, but to be honest, I like the control of doing it in post. If I did it “live” it would be baked in. So, having the options- while more time consuming, is worth it to me. And yeah, I do my own editing. A little sloppy sometimes, but I’m usually moving fast. I’d love to have an editor, but the only way I think I could do it (given the speed) is to have someone here. The dream is that the channel is eventually profitable enough to be able to pay someone to do that!

It uses "ink" to write and revise, so by the time I got to adding characters beyond the main protagonist and antagonist, I was out of ink and needed to purchase more. What I did get, however, was some solid suggestions and revision notes that actually made me realize how little I'd initially planned out. If it didn't cost, I'd go back and use it more for sure.

I also love Claude and have slowly stopped using ChatGPT. I know ChatGPT has all the bells and whistles but I use it for its basic purposes and find it does a much better job giving me what I want. With the screenwriting AI - I've spent many years working on some big budget films but I always loved the "gorilla" style filmmaking in the indie world and helped develop a number of projects with rewrites and rough drafts. Getting those key details with the characters, backstories and the "why's" behind the structure is always such a key element and usually will cause issues later in the story if not hashed out. I feel using this to start with some basics to get those nailed down would help the overall process when writing without AI. It seems like a tool that can help on many levels and not just writing the screenplay for you. Also, I feel starting with all these parameters and just hashing out a short would be a better start than going all in from the start. Getting to personally know characters and letting them live in your head for a few days will always be something that can genuinely help create more depth in scenes that AI might miss.

Totally Agree! It's funny, I've been leaning on Claude more lately as well. I was on the verge of cancelling my ChatGPT sub when they announced Dall-E 3 in it, so they've got my money for a few more months at least! I love the idea of using Plotdot for a short-- and honestly, when you look through the character data it asks you for, I think it forces you to answer a lot of those historical and biographical details about your characters. In a lot of ways, if you're just using it as a structural/assistant tool and not doing ANY AI generation-- you're going to walk away with a really dimensional character. I think the AI can churn out Mission Impossible rip offs all day long, but so could any seasoned screenwriter (I did just catch the last one...Man, soooo flat)-- but I'd be curious to see if you brought in details and characters from an indie film how it would do. I don't think it would handle writing a David Lynch movie very well...But that's OK by me.

@@TheoreticallyMediaInteresting process for generating good ideas. Similar to watching a bad movie’s setup and realizing the direction it should have gone, then writing your own entirely new spin on things. I’ve definitely done that before to great effect. As for the AMPTP, I have a more cynical take. I think they’re currently developing their own models with existing scripts they own. AI can’t get credits but producers can save a ton of money by generating their own solid first drafts with AI and then hiring one named writer to rewrite sections that aren’t quite firing on all cylinders. They know that no one will watch movies written exclusively by AI (at least for the foreseeable future), so having a human name credited will actually serve them well. Fewer and fewer spec scripts will be purchased, and fewer rewrites will be needed/sought, saving them a fortune.

@@theusopppirates2865 Not that it matters, but absolutely. The real treasure of this is the ability to use it to create a first draft. Writing a good story is like forging a good sword. Greatness is born in refinement. There's this bad and dangerous belief that magic. As if a story written by a computer, and that same story with the same words written by a human are somehow magically different. They are not, and both are of equal value.

@@alananimus9145 it does matter, though. What do you think will happen when it’s good enough to replace most human writers? The human experience is what makes the integrity of man-made art. AI content robs the art of its soul, and once it dominates literally every aspect of entertainment and culture, well, to me it just feels pointless. Not trying to be a Luddite here, but we’re on an incredibly slippery slope. But I realize there’s no closing Pandora’s box.
@alananimus9145

@@theusopppirates2865 Let's dispense with the "art of its soul" nonsense. The only "soul" any art has is imposed on it by the consumer of the art. I don't care if it "feels pointless" to you. That is your own doomerist emotions you are projecting onto it. Speaking about the "Integrity of man-made art" is also nonsense. It's a meaningless phrase intended to appeal to an emotional argument. Art as no integrity except the integrity which the consumer brings to it. If anything I see AI art as a boon to humanity as it will wash away the lazy trash. As someone who does write I understand that writing requires crafting ones skill which means lots of practice and gradual improvement. However, with that said there are too many "authors" who don't know, and worse don't care to know how story works and what makes story good. AI is a tool to be used and it can help craft some amazing stories. But honestly even the bad AI novels with no editing is better than 80% of novels that get published. Lazy writers are still going to pump out dreck and not care. Here's the thing. If you didn't know that the author was an AI and it was a great story, it would still be a great story when you found out the author was an AI. Yes I do honestly have concerns when it comes to AI. But this is mostly because the people who are creating AI are ethically stupid. What scares me even more however is the moral panic against AI. The moral panic has the ability to do far more damage. Yes, we need to insist that AI be created ethically. We need to insist that AI not generate misinformation (ChatGPT will unironically imply that Noah's flood, and the exodus were actual events in history even though we know for a fact neither happened). No we do not need to be concerned about AI art.

What matters is how good it is in 3 months ;) Second, look at the crap coming out of Hollywood - it beats a LOT of current plots. Btw., the Bruce Lee usage out of DNA is good - it matches the style of "not too many FX" karate movies. Not pure SF but fitting for Bruce Lee.

Yup, and that’s really kind of what this is. It’s one of those analog plot systems, with the add of an LLM. To be honest, as a plotting system, I don’t mind it. I think it really is a helpful tool to get writers thinking about ideas they might have missed, or helping them over structural stumbles they might not realize they’ve baked into their scripts. I do maintain that if your want a really good script, you’ll still need a human guiding the process and then ultimately re-writing the final output. But, as a first draft? I laugh everytime I see hollywood dorks complaining about AI taking their jobs. Shouldn't have made fun of hard working Americans who worry about immigrant taking theirs. I love karma 😂😂

How about if people who don't have the talent to do it for themselves, take the hint, and find something else to do?

You’re looking at it too myopically. I prefer to think of it as: “how much more could a person with talent get done using this technology. Or how much more free time could they have to enjoy life?” Also, talent is a pretty subjective term.

This is useless overhyped junk. At any time in history, you could copy-paste trite dialogue and existing plot ideas into a mindless mishmash of unoriginality and get the same result as this.

If you use this tool at all as a screenwriter then I'd personally never vouch or call you a screenwriter. Period. You cannot fully call yourself a writer if one does not develop the material from their own mind. Using spell check is fine, but to use something like this is not my idea of being called a writer. sorry.
