This calculus video tutorial provides a basic introduction into trigonometric integrals. It explains what to do in order to integrate trig functions with even powers and how to employ u-substitution integration techniques and power reducing formulas in order to find the indefinite integral of trig functions with sin and cos. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems.

Your videos really help, I just have a question about something similar. My problem is cos^5x • sin^-3x I’ve done the work all the way through to where I substituted my sinx back in for u but part of my answer has -(2sin^0x)/0 this is confusing because this makes part of my answer undefined. And idk if that means I did a step wrong or if there’s something specific I’m supposed to do. Please help
@mcgyverlouw6372
@mcgyverlouw6372 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there I saw your question only now so i did i and you can check it out. cos⁵xsin-³xdx =cos⁴xsin-³xcosxdx =(1-sin²x)²sin-³cosxdx Now let u=since hence du=cosxdx. =(1-u²)².u-³du =u-³(1-2u²+u⁴)du Next distribute the u-³ remember to add the powers of u for the last to terms inside the parentheses. =(u-³-2u-¹+u)du Now integrate with respect to u... integrating the second term in the standard way is to add 1 to -1(which equals 0) the initial term is than divided by zero and the variable raised to the power of zero. So the integral of -2u-¹ is (0)⁰ which is undefined. Recall that the derivative of ln(x) is 1/x or x-1. So the integral of -2u-1 is -2ln|u|. Here is the final answer with since substituted back in for u =-1/2(sin-²x)-2ln|sinx|+1/2(sin²x)
