I was crying over chemistry today. My textbook is as clear as mud and my teacher is a weirdo. You have shown me such an easy way to do this, and you've preserved my sanity. Please never give up teaching. You have a gift for it.

nice explanation of the relationship of the variables and great explanation of the derivation. Still not sure why they call it 'root mean square' though because you aren't squaring anything except in the intermediate form of the equation.

So what is the significant's of having the Vrms ? If Vrms is not average and it is not the most likely speed of a particle. What does Vrms tell us about the particle ? Like i know that Vrms = Velocity of the root mean speed, but what does that tell us about the particle ?
@N3ur0nCFr3qu3nCy3 жыл бұрын
Root mean square of velocity tells us the average speed of each individual particle or molecule in a system. The reason why the value is squared and rooted is for 1. The velocities don't cancel each other out as the particles are all moving in equal and opposite directions (for each molecule moving to the left, there is an equal amount moving to the right). 2. The root gives you back a value close to the original value after you take the squared mean. I hope that helps :)

sir please can i tell me what are the significance of root mean speed,average speed and most probable speed
@jirenthegray25706 жыл бұрын
Yusuph Muhidini the velocity which is repeated max no of time is called most probable velocity. √4RT/m=√4P/rho=√4KT/m=1.41√KT/m Vrms>Vmost probable

i was wondering the same thing, but i think the essential concepts of when temp or mass changes stay the same since R (kB) are constants

R value 8.314 Avagadro's number value 6. 023×10^23 when u divide both u get 1.38×10^-23 which u call bolztsman constant and represent by Kb
