We learned so much when visiting the ORANGUTAN SANCTUARY at Sepilok Rehabilitation Center in BORNEO MALAYSIA. On our way to the center, we found out that PALM OIL is causing a huge problem in deforestation in MALAYSIA. The interest in palm oil has wiped out 50% of the animals in 30 years here in Malaysia. These are some of the few remaining orangutans and sun bears left in the world. The rehabilitation center cares for orangutans who were once exotic pets, served in the circus, or other captivating circumstances. The center cares for them and releases them back into the wild when they are ready. In addition, the center is NOT a ZOO. It is completely open so animals are free to roam wherever they please. We hope you learn as much as we did when watching this video!

Hey there, I really loved that you enjoyed Sandakan, my hometown. Actually a lot of people do not know that most of these critically endangered species (that means its more endangered than a panda) that we have in borneo, are decreasing rapidly over the last 30 years because of deforestation and poachers. Sun bears are hunted for their teeth, nails, liver and even paws. Orangutan lost their home because of deforestation and some are shot dead when they enter palm oil estates looking for food. Sumatran rhinoes and bornean pygmy elephants are hunted for their horns and tusks, which some claims to have medical properties but thats entirely bs. And when mama animal is dead, so will the baby. Of course the palm oil industry had provided for the local economy, but it also took away some of our precious animals. What we have are bornean variant of the animals and they are usually the smallest of its species, we have one of the richest ecosystem and wildlife in the world i think its worth protecting. ❤️ A better world for the animals.

@@ian.and.ana. Yes so far we've been trying to do a lot of conservation works, and enforcing on the law to protect animals. Although there are still news of elephants being poached for their tusks its devestating, but the local government is doing good job preventing that from happening again.

Please support palm oil, they have FPSO certification, where the land are reused for plantation, and use lesser land than soya oil plantation. Less land means lesser forest to be cut, and these are bread & butter for malaysian farmers. Those europeans have no more forest, yet they blame us, and yet forest in m'sia covers 55-65% of the land!

Charms we shouldn’t sugar coat on the adverse impact of palm oil to the environment. Its an important industry to Malaysia but its damaging to the environment. I guess government needs to buckle up protecting the remaining green left in this country and reforest our degraded forests. This comment comes from a Malaysian

Amirul could not have said it any better! Of course it's great for Malaysia's economy but the fact of the matter is it has destroyed so much wildlife. And we just wanted to spread awareness about that because we never even knew about it prior to this. Amirul was the best tour guide we ever had. Feel free to call us out anytime but no need to bring others into this haha. Hope you have a good day Charms, thanks for watching.
