The best outdoor pants on the market have gotten better and one simple change has made these much more versatile. Fjallraven has taken the tried and true Vidda Pros / Barent Pros and have added vents to each side of the legs - it’s a game changer and allows for these pants to be worn in more adverse conditions comfortably.
This is Luke's Agenda Free Review of the Fjallraven Ventilated Vidda Pro Trousers.

Price : $135 at the time of filming
Weight : 1.2lbs
Versions : men’s and women’s
Men’s is available in;
Short
Regular
Long
Women’s is available in one length only from what I understand.
Sizes : 42 to 60 - those are euro sizes; a 42 is a 28.5” waist, a 60 is 42.5” waist.

Reinforcement areas : Knees
6 Pockets
Fixed length but can be hemmed if needed.
Adjustable leg endings
Review Pros :
Vents work very well and they are very long which means that you can get a lot of air flow to cool down and to regulate your temp while engaging in your outdoors activities. They really do make all the difference in the world
This version of the Vidda Pros has a stretch crotch which makes some movements easier than previous versions
Incredibly tough - have handled all of my use and abuse without any issues.
One pair of pants can literally last years and years. I’ve had these since last year and they continue to look brand new and have taken all of the abuse that I have put them through.
Wind resistance.
Water resistance
dry quickly.
Price
Lower waist is awesome for backpacking as your harness will go above your belt if you wear one. This makes for a more comfortable backpacking experience.
Lots of pockets
Re-enforced knees
Lifetime warranty
Can be waxed….if you wish go through that process.
Belt loops are great for hanging items…
Comfortable!
Review Cons :
Vents expose a ton of leg so you will need think about how far you are going to open them and where. I’ve had them completely open before while hiking and can come across other hikers only to notice after talk to them for a bit that I showed them my underwear and a lot of leg.
No rear wallet pocket
the G-1000 material still holds in a lot of heat so for the hottest of conditions, you may want to go with something more breathable and airy.
Material doesn’t stretch all that much
Heavy

I own these pants, and agree with the pros and cons mentioned. Regarding price, totally worth it considering how long they will last. I have a fjallraven store near me, and they were able to custom hemmed them at no extra charge, which was great considering I’m a really short dude and it’s hard to find pants that fit well off the rack. I recommend these, thanks.

I love these as well as the non ventilated version. I’ve worn them both daily for the last several years. They hold up incredibly well. People constantly ask what type of pants they are. I don’t know if it’s because they think they look cool or stupid. 😂 I highly recommend them. Great review!

I have the Vida pro but not the ventilated. The first time I put them on, I was immediately relaxed about how much money they cost. Literally the most comfortable pants I’ve ever had. A few weeks ago I had to shovel snow for three hours. Got 15” overnight so lots of work. I did a high quality base layer and my goretex Mammut jacket for my upper body and just my Vida pros for pants. Three hours later, I was soaking wet with sweat all over my upper body but waist and legs were honestly dry as a desert bone. Even in the crotch area. Snow slid off these pants like they we’re greased. These pants are extremely durable, functional and breath much better than goretex. Yes I’m sure in heavy rain my legs would get wet but they shed light rain no problem. Best money I’ve ever spent in outdoor gear!

On the opposite end of that, I work in a lumber mill and need to chainsaw large logs time to time... These things will absolutely get completely covered and with a few slaps from my gloves all the sawdust is basically gone. Not a chance this is happening with my normal jeans. Ive got 2 pairs, ventilated and non vented. I dont make much and live paycheck to paycheck but I def agree with feeling relaxed with the money spent. Right now they are on sale for 115$

Happy new year Luke and I hope you and your family have a fantastic year! I love the side waist gear loop, I've used them for attaching keys when I don't want to fiddle with getting them on the belt loop gear loops and mostly use it for an axe/hatchet when I'm out gathering firewood and that's worked out well. I love the function of these pants and they are my favorite pants for winter campouts!

I've owned Fjallraven trousers for years and have just bought a pair of Vidda Pro vented... You're absolutely spot on with your review and comments. I will say that for me they did work 'ok' in all but the hottest weather and I liked the process of treating them with the wax (a more environmentally friendly approach to waterproofing - important for me). They do have a certain mild sound - so if you want more silent trousers go for the hunting range. 🙏

Great review, as usual. I agree 100%. I own 3 pairs. I just love them. I think they were designed with the Swedish mountains and forests in mind. In a year, the number of days with real warm weather (above 20 C) is normally less than 10. Summer nights are frequently down to freezing. I use knee pads in mine, wich is great since I do so much on the ground. And yes, Ive had them for so long, I forgot the price. 😅

I bought a pair of these a few months ago, in preparation for an mid-winter trip above the arctic circle in Norway. They are everything promised, absolutely superb design and quality. The most money I've ever spent on a pair of pants but I don't have any regrets. I didn't think I would need the ventilation feature for my usage but the only pair the flagship store in Denver had in stock in my size (30 inseam) had it so that's what I got. I've not run into a situation yet where I wanted to open the vents but I haven't been through any hot weather with them yet.

Happy New Year, Luke! I've become a convert--having bought two pairs which have totally replaced the denim jeans I used to wear all the time. His is correct in them being "insanely comfortable." Thank you for the various video recommendations over the years. A caution...label size often does not match actual waist size. This makes online ordering risky. Examples: my two pair, size EU52/US36 are actually 37". Another pair EU52/US36 was actually 38".

Thanks so much for the review Luke. I'm getting ready to put my money down on some good outdoors pants. I do like the mesh and color options of the Revolution Race pants but hate tight clothing as well. I have ventilated Klim Dakar riding pants with a huge vent with mesh. They are awesome when you get hot on the trail. Open the vents, stand up and enjoy the A/C. I'm going to assume you went with the short version, I'm shorter myself and find most technical gear is meant for tall skinny people. Us short guys get out there too! I hate when the reinforced knee sits below my knee just because the company doesn't make clothing for people under 6'.

A proud Swede here! :) Love my pair (non-ventilated), and i've put them through everything. Hands-down favourite all-around pants ever. I'm my opinion they´re quite stylish aswell, something i think attributes to the simple design of them! So many other comparable products can look quite dorky and a bit too "outdoors-y". Another part of the simple design i love: buttoned pockets, not zippered. Intuitivly one might prefer zippered, but the simplicity, sustainability and surprising performance of those buttons make it just outstanding. Strongly recommend!

You dawned the pants and it dawned on me the importance of ventilating spectacles. By the way nice white framed spectacles. Thanks for explaining the sizing as I was converting based on European shirt sizes subtracting 10. For a minute I thought you had a 38 inch waist which didn’t look right. Anyway, thanks for the concise and very complete description with review. Lots of pockets. Would you recommend 100% cotton outdoor pants for super hot, wet climates like Vietnam? If it's desert then cotton has pretty much no downsides but if it's rainy half the year maybe cotton sucks.
@razifmahathir2437
@razifmahathir2437 Жыл бұрын
@@ryaniam22 good question. Your climate is similar to here in Malaysia . I do find they get pretty sweaty in the heat but they do dry out quick and personally, I prefer the durability the Vidda pros have to offer, so I'm ok with that. However, mine aren't the ventilated Vidda Pros that Luke was trying out, so that extra bit of ventilation may make a difference in our type of climate - but I guess with the extra ventilation and exposure of skin, it might have a downside with mosquito bites ! Cheers

Hi I would like to recommend the fjällräven Ked Trouser, they are like the Vidda Pro Trousers but different, trekking trousers made of stretch fabric and G-1000 Eco, now updated for an even better performance, fit and durability. You can use them with suspenders, and the bottom edge of the trouser leg has a new design that is easier to adjust and repair. The trousers have classic, large pockets, two large ventilation zips on each side and openings for knee pads. A well-fitting, durable classic for maximum freedom of movement in the mountains. I have been using them for more than 10 years and am very satisfied with them. the first pair I've had has held for approx. 9 years. Regards Jon.

After trying these on and finding the fit *not skinny* I was finally sold. Having used them for a while, the fit is very good but does bind if you go to scramble up a steep slope or high step over blow-down. I find the waist size is slightly generous, so I use a belt, but the low rise still pulls them down my butt some if squatting or scrambling. The fabric seems colder than other pants when directly on the skin below -10 C, but pairing them with wool tights is excellent. Those are the only negatives that I've found. I'd consider them best for shoulder season hiking or bush work. Friends who use them for timber cruising and eco-typing in BC say that they are one of the only pants that holds up multiple seasons in the field. You don't get higher praise for durability than that.

I got some for Christmas. Love these pants. Make sure you order a size larger than you would normal pants because there is -10 stretch. No stretch at all. As for length I got the "regular" at 6 foot I figured I was a regular sweedish man... but at waist 32-33 with average length these pants are made for a 6'5" person. They run small waist because of no stretch and run LONG. Because sweeds are huge apparently.

Totally agree re-loosed fit is best. Leave the skinny pants for the chicks. That was pretty funny the school bus went by and realized your mail was hanging out. So, when you said if you weren’t showing the pants in a video you would’ve been wearing them. You were standing in your boxers? Lol looks like the vents are a must without insulating those cotton pants are. The loops could they be for suspenders? Unless maybe that single loop you mentioned in the back left is for pulling the pants to the side so you can squat over a cat hole without taking the pants off relieving yourself through the zipper and vent. Good complete coverage of these pants from top to bottom thanks for not panning down when you were standing there holding the pants up in the air. 😮🎉

I was wondering if you were going to mention using Nikwax on them. I’m a big fan of Fjallraven clothing. I myself actually like the waxing but don’t necessarily want to wax the entire pants. I’ll try Nikwax, the probably wax the knees and rear patches. We’ll see what happens and if I drop the waxing all together. Having said that, I will keep waxing the pair I will wear canoeing. A well waxed G-1000 material almost acts like the neoprene of a wetsuit when rained on. Totally agree with you on those pants and yes they dry incredibly fast. I ended up biting the bullet and bought a pair of the ventilated and non-vented. I actually found them local at 20% off as well. I might have been able to save a few bucks buying online but this was the first place local to me that I found them where I could actually try them on for sizing. The Kebs I bought work but are probably 1-2 sizes too big in reality. One thing to note with the Keb vs the Vidda Pro vented is the side vent height. On the Vidda Pro the zipper starts about 4 inches higher than on the Keb's which as stated in this video the Vidda Pro can show a lot more of your underwear. Also worth noting is the regular Vidda Pro does not have the stretch material at all. Which to me is a pro and a con. The stretch is nice to have but at the same time if it is the same material as on my Keb pants which I think it is it takes 3x longer to dry when wet compared to the g1000 material. I would say there is a chance on the Vidda Pro vented pants since there is so little stretch material alot of the moisture will wick into the g1000 material and dry a lot faster than the Keb pants as it is about 50% stretch material. Either way all 3 will fit well into my rotation!

I love my Viddo Pro (no vents), as well as my Barents. Yet, I've found that the Keb is far more comfortable in warmer months with the vents, with the downside of not being nearly as durable.

I've been tempted to buy these pants many times but can't seem to pull the trigger. Instead I buy LL Bean Riverton Pants. Much cheaper with the same material composition, maybe not as many pockets as the Fjallraven but better placement and more useful. And the Riverton pants wear like iron. Maybe some day I'll buy a pair of Vidda Pros but I'll probably keep buying the LL Bean pants and instead buy a Fjallraven trekking jacket. Good review, Luke!

I watched this review few times, and watched other reviews too. The *main issue* with such *proven* reviews is that you review pants which served a decade for you and are proven to perform the best, and we (consumers) won’t find decade-old models in store. Just check users reviews at manufacturer’s site for any brand: model sizing and fit changes year after year. Specifically this model, it is waxed cotton, which is an issue for me. I finally bought Haglöfs “Rugged Mountain Pants” which are comparable by design, but no cotton; on sale, for CAD$160 (USD$ 110). Happy with the purchase. Canoeing, portaging, hiking, camping. If you check manufacturer site, you will find again reviews from users who is super happy with few-years-old model, and unhappy with the current one.

I bought my first pair of Fjällräven 25 years ago, still use them. I think I have 6-7 pairs of different Fjällräven pants, an anorak, a jacket, 5-6 different pairs of shirt, and so on. I just can't wear them out. First time I was in Alaska 2012 a lot of people asked me about my pants and shirt, they had never heard about Fjällräven then, guess they have now.

Härkila Mountain Trek trousers are also good. I use trousers in the forest in summer and fall because of the ticks etc. A beltloop in the middle of the back for braces is good.

I also do like them. But I prefer the more higher wearing ones like the Karl Pro. I have two of them and they keep going. For the more casual use (even office) I have a large (ladylike large) amount of Nils trousers in various colors. They are very comfortable when sitting due to the shaped cut at the knees.

Coming from Scotland and served in the Royal marines, Fjallraven is very common and well known............I have both the Vidda Pro's and the Keb's ...........and would highly recommend both for all outdoor activities. Never let me down in some pretty grim conditions. I find the Keb's even more comfortable than the Vidda's due to there being more stretch but just as bomb proof and being vented as standard with both thigh and ankle zipped vents. As stated as a con the vents are not mesh lined like many other Outdoor brands like Montane. Rab, Mountain Equipment etc etc ..............but that is an easy fix and took mine to a local seamstress to have the mesh added. This is a must in Scotland due to the high level of "Midges" (very tiny mosquito's) that are everywhere!!!!!!

There a pant out here in oregon that are very heavy and you can get them in regular or fleese lined. They are warm and comfy they are water resistant. They are great made by Duluth trading. Thoughs are my pants of choice but I'm going to buy a few of the ones you have to test if they are warm and tough I'm all in.

Just picked up a pair of ventilated VP to add to my regular. Truly good pants on both fronts. If they fit you, they’re like a second highly protective skin. I love the adjustable ankle snaps. You can use these to size above your calves and wear like knickers (that’s knickerbockers, all you Brits). One of the best features, IMHO. They’ll last forever. The design and Vietnamese construction is done at a high standard, as is everything I’ve ever purchased from Fjallraven. I can only imagine how nice their down stuff is!! So worth the coin. Good review. Thanks.

Can I ask what size you got and if they fit close to your other pants in that same size? I'm 6'-4" and I want to make sure fit is consistent with my other pants. Thanks!

@@brettspencer892 I’m 6’ with 32”waist and 32” inseam. EU-48 which is US-32. I think they have a size calculator on their website. I used it when I got my first pair and then t was spot on. Ventilated ones fit virtually identically to regular. They definitely have short, regular and long. I can understand your angst. They aren’t cheap. But 100% worth it if you spend a lot of times outside. With light colour for warm weather and dark for cool, I am pretty set for a good long time. Last word, they fit really well and that the main reason I like them so much. With that, I am out.

To be fair its no surprise to me that these trousers are so warm as they are made by a Swedish company, I guess aiming at a domestic market where temperatures are largely cool. Love the review Luke, many thanks. I've been umming and arring about a pair of these for some time and have been held back by the big ticket price. However, you have convinced me and I am now going to buy my own pair...Thanks again

I love my Vidda Pro's. After buying one pair at 155.00, I've been on the lookout for more at a cheaper price. The no back pocket takes a minute to get used to if that's all you wear are rear wallet pockets. I'd like to have at least 3 more pair.

Have been looking at these for a while. I think your review will finally push me to bite the bullet and get a pair. And totally agree with preference for relaxed fit instead of tight. Time to cry…. and oddly these days, I feel like I cry every time I buy gear lol. Small suggestion and don’t want to sound like I’m nitpicking, but I think it would be nice to learn how to correctly pronounce the company and product.

When you are ready to step to next level in comfortness, try out the Keb trousers. Basically the same pants but they are a bit more technical(more ventilation possibilities, more stretchy areas etc.) Ventilation points should never have mesh IMO.

I would like to share very few of my experience with my own Vidda Pro Ventilated. I have never tried the non ventilated model so I can not compare but from what I have read from the site and I believe official promotional video is that this model is slightly slimmer than the non-vent model but does have the stretch where it matters. I bought this pants in my regular wear size and it does fit ever so slightly snug compare to similar shaped Levi's jeans I have but again thanks to the stretch between the legs it doesn't bother me much. BUT one BIG issue I have is with the all the pockets. Yes it does depend on each person but if you want to put anything other than paper maps, slim wallet, anything slim and flexible in the pocket you will want to size UP as when you are seating or bending over/down thigh area get too tight. So do keep that in mind. I do like that with Vidda Pro series you can pull and snap at the ankle for tight fit. One other... yes it is a expensive pants. Another options I would highly you check out is the ever so popular CARHARTT Rugged Flex workwear pants. They do have many variety of design, fabric choices including stretch. I highly suggest you check them out as those are much cheaper and if not just as durable but may be not loaded with pockets like Fjallraven. But again... I gurantee you, you won't be using all the pockets on Vidda Pro anyways for the reasons I explained before. So yea... certain Carhartt model will 100% satisfy so many of you for any outdoor beat up wears. Also, I personally wax my butt and about 6" pants bottom only... in winter I wax entire knee down. Before buying, read about them from the official fjallraven site first for sizing info and such. But if you must feel like owning a Fjallraven, do consider their Outdoor series pants as they are made with same material, just designed bit more casual loook. I pronouce it V - Da. :) Cheers.
