This is awesome! My wife bought this for me a while back to take on my elk hunt in Colorado this fall. It can get mighty chilly at 10,000 ft in elevation when the sun goes down. Nice to know my stove will keep me nice and warm and that the tent holds in the heat!

Hey Luke , thanks for the very interesting vid. I myself have purchased this tent few days ago , ill test it soon ( going to Yamanashi prefecture , nearby Tokyo ) to have a hot tent overnight , and this video made me even more impatience ... I totally agree also about the bear thing . Here in Japan they are quite common , especially in the Japanese Alps , we are not talking about huge animals ( Asian bears , mostly , also named Moon Bears ) maybe the size of a big dog... but still bears . People tend to treat them as cute puppies so if they encounter them many times they feed them , ignoring the fact that doing so , the animal connect the view of a human to the idea of food . So they get more audacious and sometime this end up in an attack with , in some cases , a tragic end ( for both sides ) . Same happens with wild monkeys and deers... so people should try to understand that wild animals need to be treated as such...anyway , digressing i guess , you should come to visit Japan ( i remember you mentioned that in one of your past videos ) even if its not hiking on Fuji-San , there are plenty of other options. Thanks again for your work ... Ciao !

I wish more people understood the animals deserve to be respected… You wouldn't open your door to strangers and you wouldn't open your door to animals that you didn't know but even so people treat their dogs and cats like their toys and they call them babies… They are not babies they're just dependents… I don't like the attitude that people have… I think it's disrespectful other forms of life and dangerous

Yes! Thank u for the video. U were describing "the bears", yes.....when they are around human settlements ur right fear dissipates. We had a tent up all summer long one year came back and it was torn right apart. I felt uneasy and we set up camp in a more open area on the 40 acres. I live in north central Canada. In most camping camp grounds in the north u have "bear dogs", they will literally Chase the bears away, so cool. We had one. We literally put up a dense fence on the back of our camp and had the one side free. We had a camp kitchen and our summer tent. One night I woke up to a bang bang on the garage door. Bear probably the same one who wrecked our tent the summer before. Anyway Major "the dog" went to work. He started barking incessantly and cruising back and forth he was fast until he chased that bear off the yard. I so appreciated that dog. He was half Pyrenees and golden retriever. I'm telling a story but yes "don't feed the animals". I love this tent great for fall!!. Thank u ❤ in Canadian funds it is $419.00 on Amazon, for any....Canadian viewers. ❤❤

Now you are camping! I love stoves for the purpose of heating a tent on a cold night. Best of both worlds! Thank you for sharing about the bear triangle, now it makes sense why you set up a tarp away from the tent. I so appreciate the lessons you are teaching! Now you are making a LOT of sense to why you do camping your way. Thanks for taking the time to answer questions with your videos. This is great!

I have camped in the mountains where during deer season, it could and did get down to minus 20 and minus 30 degrees F. Our water pail froze and my boots froze to the floor. 55 years ago we didn't have collapsible wood stoves or ventless propane heaters. None of us had warm sleeping bags and we were afraid to use the apartment unvented propane heater all night for fear of CO poisoning. I don't know how we survived but we never did it again. Later we had a tent with a fly with a good wood stove on a wood platform at the same location and down and synthetic insulated sleeping bags. What a difference. We let the stove get down to coals overnight and were plenty warm. Having the proper equipment was the key.

A trick I've discovered making mix drinks like instant coffee and hot cocoa. Pour a bit over half the hot water in, then add in the drink mix. Pour in the rest of the water, and that does a lot of if not all the mixing for you. Works for cold drinks like Kool-Aid too.

Listening to you talk about the wild life and saying you stay on your side and I'll stay on my side, reminds me of a lake my family visited in Massachusetts. The lake is called Lake Webster, but it is also known by a native american Nipmuc (Algonquian) tribe name. It is known as: Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg or “You fish on your side; I fish on my side; nobody fishes in the middle.” My family all purchased shirts or sweatshirts with that name on the front, but NO ONE was allowed to wear the shirts until they could pronounce the native american name correctly. LMAO It was not easy to do, but eventually they all were able to do it. Be careful out there Luke, those bears might not speak Nipmuc (Algonquian). Great video as always. Wish I'd been there with you! STRENGTH AND HONOR Brian

The story about that guy trying to tell you how to split wood had me laughing Luke lol. I spent the majority of my life on an apple orchard. My parents heated the downstairs with a wood stove. Had gas heat for the really cold days. But having split wood since I was around 8. The only thing you need is a good pair of boots and gloves. Plus kneeling would be pointless as you would lose all your leverage to split the wood. The splitting maul has a long handle for a reason. We mostly used Apple , oak and ash for the stove. Some of the softer woods like aspen or poplar for the late fall.

I was literally raised camping, first adventure at 2 months old. My wife and I bought 2 Sears tents at a surplus shop and with 3 kids camped in Michigan before being transferred to Germany. We camped in Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the coldest, in Holland. We had freezing rain there and woke a few mornings with ice on the canvas. Our propane heater was only used for warming up before bed and after waking up. In rain, all of our cooking was under a tarp between the 2 tents on a Coleman camp stove. Those were adventures our kids still talk about. Not complaining, but with a power station, table, chairs and wood stove, you make it look easy.

I think we love watching cold weather camping because it is so amazing that you can be out in a gale and heavy snow and this thin piece of tent wall, when set up correctly, is the only thing between you and an emergency rescue! The wood stove gives us all piece of mind that you will be warm and cozy. It will never stop being amazed by this.🦘🐨

Great video! I just recently purchased this tent. I used it this past weekend for deer hunting! Amazing tent. The only issue I had was with the stove jack. Perhaps my stove was too big for this tent as the chimney charred the fabric used in the stove jack opening. I don't think they used a very expensive truly fire proof material. I may have to attach another stove jack on top of this one. Or ensure the chimney doesn't touch the sides of the white fabric...

Some of the comments are down right hateful of the leaf blower 😅 But if you look up C02 emmisons of a gas leaf blower you'll be proud of Luke for using a corded electric blower. He could drive his truck to Alaska for less emissions than a 30min gas leaf blower session. Ticks & disease are a real trouble in the outdoors. Clearing debris is good for tenting and a great point to bring up. 💎

No boom box???😅 I got a Smokehouse Hammock Hot Tent. Made in USA. Love it! Cooking on the wood stove top makes the most out of the hot tent concept. The canister stove is overkill, and not the "bushcrafty" thing that I expect to see on a hot tent video, but it's not really "bushcrafty" when you drive right up to the campsite. Ok, I'm over it. Carry on! 31:15 8:56 pm. Thruhiker midnight! 😊

The temperature went past 60° Normal people: Oh that's a nice temperature. Little hoodie weather, mayne a light sweater. Luke: has to strip down to his shorts now Sweat is pouring out everywhere. He's in risk of heat stroke. Also a good bear gun(for those of us intelligent enough to not try and hug one no matter how big or small), if you ever wanted to carry one is a 10mm pistol with either Cor-Bon hollowpoints, or some Extreme Penetrators. Some people claim a 5.7x28mm, because they penetrate deep and will tumble inside. Low recoil and the magazines hold about 20 rounds. But they lack the ability to stop it quickly. Whereas a 10mm will kick harder, but has more power behind it and with the right hollowpoints, penetrate deep and expand wide, while also tumbling because of that increased speed. But nothing beats a good .45-70 or 12 gauge loaded with staggered shells, (00 buckshot, slug, 3-0 or 4-0 buckshot, slug, 00 buckshot, etc). But I've seen grizzlies hit with a pepperball though and the ball not even break, they turn and run away. Just the fact something hit them was enough. But I wouldn't risk my life on that. But I say leave all bears alone and if you see one, get out of there.

I was born and raised in the Jackson Hole valley area, it's just south of Yellowstone Park. I've watched all of your videos as well as several others just to escape the city life I'm now dwelling in. I want to thank you so much for your channel this one as well as the quiet place. The one thing I never could understand is how some people think wildlife is safe if it's cute. As a kid in the fifties I used to watch tourists feeding bears and trying to get right up next to a bison, then wonder why they got un- alived or majorly hurt. In the summertime when we told our parents we were going to the park we meant Yellowstone. Now as an old old lady I live through your videos and pray you keep putting content out there so I can keep on smiling😊

Winnerwell Nomad Medium. Absolutely brilliant stove. Mine's got a side window, so preferred PLUS safe orientation is problematic is some tents. With this tent and setup, the window faces the wall of the tent. It looks like it would be fine in the 2-bedroom version of this tent.

Question for you, Luke: on maybe you last expected stoking of the stove, have you ever place a heat mass on top to carry over the temps without a later load? E.g., a big ol’ rock heating up for a couple of hours might let you stay warm without an 0430 rise. I dunno - never had a stove before but looking forward to it..

Great video sir! I also understand the vivid dreams and the excitement of going to sleep. I used to think of them as nightmares but now I also think of them as a ventures. Even had many dreams where I felt like I had control when something bad was happening and I changed it in my dreams. Not quite camping related cool to see that other people also enjoy going to sleep LOL

We were in the Sierras at Mammoth Lakes two weeks ago. At Tamarack Lodge on Twin Lakes a black bear tore the door off a Ford 150 after the owner ignored the signs (that were everywhere ) and left food on the front seat. Considering it was the next cabin over, it certainly got our attention. They told my son they have bears walking around the area almost every night, but of course we never saw one. Though we did find scat several times around our little mountain lake.

I’m really liking my Fire Maple Saturn stove. Glad to see you’re still using yours. I’m tempted to go ahead and get this tent based on your two outings so far. I don’t have a stove but I do have a Mr. Heater DeWalt version indoor safe heater that I’ve used with another cheap cabin tent. Works great in it so I’m sure it’d work in this one even better.
