Amongst the highest mountains on the East Coast, I set up my camp and shortly afterwards the sound of thunder reaches my ears.
In this Adventure, Rain, Storms, a Massive Tarp and a VERY Unique Shelter that I have never seen anyone setup before.
Get ready, this is going to be a wet adventure!
Gear List for this Adventure :
After receiving countless messages from viewers about supporting the channel through Amazon, I have begun using Amazon Affiliate links in the Adventure Videos and if you choose to purchase one of these products via these links I will receive a small commission which will help fund future honest reviews and adventures.
The channel remains as it always was, 100% Agenda Free with no sponsored videos, no paid reviews, and I don't care if you purchase these products or not; you won't find affiliate links in review videos only in adventures.
I'm going to do my best to put gear lists into all of my videos since everyone is asking for them all the time.

My first big tarp was a canvass army tarp from Vietnam. I loved it, but it took some friends to help set up. I used to put it over my el cheapo tent, which I shared with my big dog. Then I set my cook fire up at the other side of the site ( wilderness) and ran a zip line down the middle, for my big dog. It was deluxe. I was there for two weeks, and the locals came to check on me. They showed me around, and we found a an eagle nest, with chicks. They invited me to Snowbird, a huge privilege. Just as we got everything set up, came a heckofa storm, and Doggo wasn't scared, at all. It was s beautiful trip. Thank you for the memory.

Now that's camping. That is how I step up my Wal-Mart tent, which is only good to keep bugs out and guaranteed to leak. A nice tarp and a cheap tent. Live like Kings during a rain storm, cook, eat, and just sit around enjoying being out there in the woods. With not a worry at all regarding the rain or getting wet. Dont trust those more expensive tents. plus when it is raining hard, no rain gets in when getting in or out of the tent. Love my tarps. Great video's enjoy them.. Stay dry and take care.

Love that set up! That is one heck of a tarp, WHEW. I always use a tarp with my tent. Used to set up big tarps, truck camping, with my family. Used a rock to toss tarp cords up higher. Could park the truck under one edge. The tarp covered our picnic table and two tents. As you know it rains a lot in the Smokies. We enjoyed a great time in the mountains, rain or shine. So glad to see your set up. Thanks for sharing. Kentucky

As a kid, I was always scared of T-storms. Now, I love them. My, to date, worst storm camping trip was a group hike on Mt. St. Helens. You could see the lighting bolt move across the sky, THRU the tent wall and fly!!! Rain was like an open faucet, a straight downpour. Tent leaked quite badly after a couple hours of the storm, so i moved to the big canvas tent, some of the group were in. Great trip. Great storm. Great mountain to hike!

Strength & compromise , very needed. Along with respect & responsibility. Your choices are your own. Obviously many things are out of your control. How you deal with them, however, is not. Use logic , not feelings , hard work = great rewards. Ty looks amazing.

There is something soothing about the shelter of a huge tarp on a rainy night. In the damp humid environment it’s nice to have the ventilation of the open sides with the precipitation protection. I did something similar one day with my North Face Windy Pass tent in the boundary waters of Wisconsin when we had an expected hot sunny day. I propped a reflective side of a polyurethane tarp over our inner tent to create some shade were we could not find any. Hours later, we used the same tarp as a third layer to keep us warm during a cold downpour. Tarps are a great addition to four season tents! Loved the video!

The tarp and inner tent is a great summer setup if you can find a spot with some air movement. I learned to Siege camp in the Army with SF. Spent a bunch of time in Norway, Alaska, and Ft Drum, NY. Was in the Blizzard of 77 when it snowed 75" in 2 days at -35. Elementary school collapsed, and we shoveled it out. No students, as all the roads were closed. I hate camping in hot humid weather, but they don't really care what you like. 90% of the time they sent us in winter. I love winter camping. You are a very good example for the camping community. I'm 73 now and getting back into going out this fall winter. It's amazing how things change, yet they really are the same. Ultralight is relative. My Team SGT would always say we are going to be walking around with 300 pounds of light weight s%^t. The person from the lab would always say it only weighs 8 Oz. We would say "Great that will barely be noticed in the anchor tied to our back. Love your attitude and grateful for your suggestions. Tarps are really the common connection to my past and now. I really need a break from all the politics. Thanks.

Thank you, great episode! We are two peas in a pod. I always have an enormous tarp set up when I camp in my van. I put it up between trees and use a very long nylon rope to attach if trees are far apart. I put half higher than the van and half to drop like a wall. The van can be totally under cover if it's raining. I bring chairs, a table, and a tiny kitchen, all collapsible, all under cover. I can catch rain water for washing up; if water is scarce, it can be filtered for drinking. I love camping in the rain! 🦋

The most wonderful camping experience I've had was in the North Cascades in Washington. It was a campground, but that was fine. I had a great tent that was tall enough to stand up in. I had an inflatable mattress, with bedsheets, pillows and a quilt from home. I know that it's a bad idea to bring food inside a tent, but I was only going to be there one night, so I took a chance and brought my cooler of drinks and a bag of snacks inside. I was expecting a storm and I luckily grilled my steak, cleaned up the site and packed the car just as the rain started. Then I went into the tent. What made it so great was that the rain came down hard. It rained for hours. I was dry, warm, snug and happy inside with my books, my sodas, and my snacks, while the rain tried in vain to reach me. Water poured off the walls, and I could hear it flowing under the floor. I fell asleep sometime near midnight and the rain never relented. I slept great. night

Missouri here. Literally every season and type of weather possible, sometimes all in a few days. We get the brutal cold and miserable heat, floods and droughts, snow, tornadoes (on rare occasion in same day), thunder snows, hail, I even remember a dust storm when I was a kid. I live outside Nevada MO, right by KS border. Storm chasing and fishing my long time favorites. Love sitting under a tarp or in my hammock during a storm.

Here in the middle of England, our July / August average high is around 71 F with an annual rainfall of around 32 inches. Since you asked, I looked it up, but I have to say, it seems a lot colder and wetter than that most of the time lol. Love the setup Luke, good job. Oh the insulator if it’s high up could be for a radio antenna. I’m a radio ham and I’ve strung up more than one long wire antennas for short wave which terminated with an “egg” insulator.

Long time fan (under another name). One thing I've always wondered about with you, rain and tarps. Groundwater is always a luxury. Where I live, ...ya, ...NO ! When ever 'we' go 'out', we ALWAYS carry a 'tarp, piece of poly, garbage bag (BPA free), something to hang in the rain to collect water ! I know it's a "show", not an encyclopedia and all possible incidentals can't, in a lifetime be covered. I wonder if maybe, one day, the subject might be covered... for everyone else's' edification. 'call it a public service announcement. 'Your friendly "professional Camper" in the Semi (hint, hint lol) God bless, Take care ... you and y'all. L.H.

I have kept all of the old tent parts that are still good. During this storm I was at the beach. I recently purchased the 10x13 aquaquest. I dug out the old 8x8 tent poles from a trashed tent. Putting the tarp up with the loops on the underside did the trick for us. Run the poles through them, spike them in the sand, and the new age wigwam was perfect. No trees for the creative setup. 🤣.
