I used to love camping alone (before children) and just drink in the mountains... build a fire, cook, hike, read a book... especially in fall when the elk are bugling... LOVE this!! So relaxing to watch. I have 4 teenagers now, plus dogs and guinea pigs, living in the city with neighbors and chaos.... and sometimes I dream of even just going to jail for the night so I can have some peace for longer than 4 hours. I got to live vicariously through you for a while and relax watching this, thank you.

Indeed, very familiar situation with kids, endless chaos and time flying. No time for mountains and wild. At somepoint though you can introduce the wild, mountains and camping to your kids. Then there might be a change of getting out and back to the old days or close to it, rather than staying in the city.

Just food for thought but I was taught years ago to always park in a way that puts me at an advantage if I needed to leave in a hurry. Strategic parking may seem like a small thing to most but I’ve actually been in situations where had I not parked that way, I’d have had issues. Even in icy situations it makes it nice to be pointed in the right direction in the event you need to leave quick. Just something to think about. Love your content! Keep it up!

Interesting story about strategic parking. Clyde Barrow, of Bonnie and Clyde infamy, had a habit of parking his vehicle in such a manner so as to facilitate an easier getaway should authorities catch wind of the location of Bonnie and him. But on 19 July of 1933 a person noticed a vehicle strangely parked, it had been backed in at the motor court room Bonnie and Clyde had rented. The vast majority of people simply pull forward into the space, not back in. Cops were alerted, a shootout ensued, and Clyde's brother Buck was shot in the head during their escape. Buck died in a hospital a few days later....

The metal rings on the stove door and adjustment points are so you can use a small stick through them to open the door, adjust the settings. The burns on your hands are to remind you to use the stick!

I see a lot of comments on how to fix the stove legs, the point luke is making is you should not have to fix or adapt something that you have bought.

A threaded rod and a couple nuts and washers through the holes in the center of the legs would prevent that colapse issue with the stove without adding much weight.

Loved the picture (video) of the tent in the clearing with the woods all around, early morning, and smoke coming out of the pipe. Beautiful! I may be a southerner (mostly Floridian) and love warmer weather, but I do love the beauty of nature all over in our country.

My late grandpa had one of those huge tents given out during the depression era. He and my grandma lived in it during the depression. He used railroad spikes to tie it to the ground and kept it waterproofed. When I was a kid we'd go camping on the New River at Thurmond and stay a week at a time. Nice spring of water coming off the mountain into a rock pool. Burnt wood and coal to heat and prepare food as West Virginia gets cold in those hills.

I bought small metal carabiner clips and attached them to my stove cap with lines to make the stove more stable in my tent during windy evenings. Love the video!

Regarding the stove: Two hooked tent stakes will hold the legs in place. Stoves are hot, so take out your trusty multitool pliers and grab the metal rings or metal points on the stove to adjust, not your fingers. Regarding the tent/teepee: If it had an interior wall/sheet (lining) that would drop from about 1/3 to 2 meters the height up the side wall to the ground, this would make it much better for heat retention (Like the Native Americans would use on their teepees).

And the fact that his tent seemed to be placed down an incline lower than he'd parked the car, (@22:59) with down pours water follows gravity. Also, not fond of being in a tent during an electrical event.

I’ve seen stoves for Hot-Tent camping that have provision for guying the chimney outside the tent to protect against high winds. One setup actually guyed the chimney to the tent itself to enable the tent and the chimney to move together.

In a pinch, I'd have looked for some rocks of the appropriate size to put underneath the stove in case it became unstable. They have acted as heat sinks also. Love your shows thank you.

Hi Luke, in response to your question about anyone owning a Kifaru tipi I do have a Kifaru 6-man tipi which is about the same size as your tipi. I've had it since 2008 and have used it mostly in the winter in temps that have been down to -45 C in Northern Ontario. I've also used it for summer outings as it has bug mesh doors that can be attached to it.I've got the Kifaru large box style stove to heat it and have the liner in the tipi which helps to keep it warm and dryer inside. The quality of the Kifaru tipi is exceptional, high quality materials and workmanship is top notch. The design allows for a pitch that is very sturdy in obscene winds and snow/rain. The only downside is price but you get what you pay for. Take care and thanks for the great videos! Tents aren't about insulation or thermal mass, you get your heat in a hot tent from radiant stove heat, once the fires out the temp will drop fast draft or not.

For the stove, a pair of pliers and some kind of bracket to hold it. I really enjoyed this video. Warm and cozy in the tent when it's horribly storming out or blizzardfing is beautiful. I like your set up, your attitude, your banter, and your camera skills. BTW, I too am a connoisseur of good coffee. I used to buy Tim Horton's religiously until one time I was out so I went to the store they were out of Timmy's so I bought a can of Nabob. I've never changed back.🇨🇦

Another great adventure! I really enjoy it when you share stories from your youth, or stories about your family. Most of the other You Tubers I watch don't really share a whole lot about their lives outside of what they happen to be doing in that particular video. Back in the 80s I was in a cold-weather battalion in the Marine Corps. We’d deployed to Norway and that’s what we spent our entire time preparing for when we were not in Norway, training to operate in Norway. Anyways, that stove we called it the “Yukon” stove. We also were able to hook up a fuel line to the stove which we seldom used. If we were in a 10 man tent and at a base camp we would hook up a liquid fuel line. But most of the time we used wood. I certainly enjoyed that video. It brought back memories seeing the Yukon stove.

I watched this review leading up to my own hot tent purchase, the two real cons you mentioned in this review may have been considered. Their new description mentions an improved “Tee Pee” tent sewing and sealing with new tent stakes that are a stronger material. Just had to mention that as they specifically mention this two specific topics as improved. Great work as always, keep it up, I cannot wait for mine to deliver.

I started hot tenting last year. I was amazed by how much of a difference adding a fan made. I know that heat rises, but I didn't think that I would be able to tell the difference from raising my hand in such a small tent. I highly suggest getting a fan. Get a stove fan or a battery operated fan that you can hang from the top of the tent.

I grew up in Colorado, and now I am in Missouri. I prefer the cold. I love snow. I love cross country skiing. The mountains just make me happy. Camping is so quick and easy to get to.

Wow, Lone Wolf Mountain is gorgeous from the sky. When my son-in-law goes hot tenting, he carries his heavy duty cold weather sleeping bag, that way he gets to sleep; just uses the stove to stay warm during the day. Happy New Year to you and Yours; may it bring all of us Health and Happiness.

I live in the area the tornado went through and the surprising thing is when it came to the area I live at it split and went around we got really strong winds and had part of a tree blown down from my neighbors yard and we got a lot of rain so we have been pretty blessed by missing out on the last couple of storms.

Great experience. I have a HELSPORT Lavvu tent, 6 to 8 person for me alone and I love it. No problems in storm if you use good tent stacks, these tent types have been used by mankind for thousands of years, the most storm resistant construction there is. Only downside might be, there is no window, so you are stuck inside in a storm without seeing nothing. But then again the style of tents that have windows are far less storm resistent as the lavvu style. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family. Cheers. 👍

Hey Luke, Must Have Coffee !!!!! I switched to cordless battery powered power tools just two years ago and am quite happy I did. I am also very happy that I just subscribed to your channel. I've been through the horrible tent pegs as well and soon afterwards bought good sturdy pegs. Thanks for the excellent info and tips and a wonderful enjoying show. I am still using a multi fuel, but mostly propane Coleman stove for cooking. I have never camped in cold weather so never needed a wood stove but do have a propane heater for damp mornings.

For me there's two things about a hot tent that I love, chopping wood and making a fire. And it's really pleasurable being toasty warm inside a tent at night when outside it's freezing cold!

Why VERY concerned? I've watched videos where what he was doing was much more dangerous. If there is anything you learn about Luke is that he is very safe in what and how he does things. He has great situational awareness of what he is doing and where he is.

Great fun video Luke. I spent a year in a tent with a woodstove in Washington state in various locations outside of Seatle. I never got cold. It is a good memory. Your drone footage was also great in the aerial shots. Gave a unique perspective of your adventure. I'm always looking forward to your thoughtful gear reviews. Thanks for sharing your views.

I don't like camping but I love listening to the rain. You made camping look like it's fun and I'd say you definitely have all the right tools for it! I like that wood burning heater you have and I was looking at Amazon for it and I found a similar or maybe it's the same one; it was pricey! Nevertheless, I'm looking for a heating source that doesn't use electricity and that would be perfect for my needs! I also ordered that same stove and the cannister it attaches to. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure!

In re: stove legs potential collapse; a simple solution, since no tent floor; therefore, just a tent stake placed at each foot preventing leg collapse or folding. 🤔

Or a stick in middle of bottom between the front and back legs theres a round hole on both. A stick.or pipe fits in the holes. But your way is definitely quicker

METAL tent stakes. Most of them these days are plastic. And yes there are people dumb enough to make that mistake.

Thanks for the great tip to treat the ground tarp with permethrin. The bugs here in Georgia are driving me crazy and the weather going back and forth from very warm to cold has them continually coming out then looking for warm places. Great work.

I have to thank your for your review, the two cons you state here are actually specifically mentioned as improved in this years offering. I think it states stronger lighter improved tent stakes and improved TeePee sewing and sealing techniques. Keep up the great work, I cannot wait for mine to ship.

Tent stakes are still light duty for sure, they do work but I have some heavier replacments.

I put mine up and had 20 to 40mph gust with steady 20's it rained pretty hard for a good long while. No leaks and the tent stayed put. I tested my wood stove and Mr Buddy both heated the tent quite well.

Great video! NC mountains have a lovely climate and your camping videos show that well. I love having 4 real seasons, with real winters. Having lived in MA, NY, NJ, CA, and TX, I just moved to a house on a remote Maine lake and I'm looking forward to experiencing the unadulterated ME winter! Lots of snow, to be sure. Oh, thanks for the tip on chain saw. I have a lot of deadfall to clear around this house and the DeWalt looks like it would be a huge help.

Hey Luke, when you buy some longer, better quaility tent pegs, use 2 to bang into the ground thru the legs on the stove. (at a 45 angle ect.) Cheers, keep up the awesome ,informative vids.

Hey Luke, great video! I was actually out in my Pomoly Hex Plus tent during the same storm here in Eastern PA. You should try one of Polmoly's stoves if you don't like the One Tigress. I have the T Brick ultra which holds a ton of wood. Some things that may have helped you, instead of staking the tent with the cords, use the tent loop directly so that you don't have any gaps around the bottom, and also weigh down the snow flaps with logs or rocks for extra protection and insulation. Last thing I do is I hang a small rechargeable fan pointing down to circulate the hot air back down to the floor. You will feel a big difference doing that. I love my hot tent and stove, and thanks for the video!

Next time bring some inexpensive (or expensive) vanilla to pour over your burns. It will help prevent blisters and reduce the pain. You will still peel later on (weeks perhaps) but no blisters. But it has to be done right away. Please keep in mind that this is not meant for burns where your skin actually comes off but to prevent blisters and pain, works like a charm!

Tent pegs: People involved with lawn & sod installation have really heavy duty J hooks or lighter ones too. They use these to hold down a lawn blanket or in my case - on a slope for wire to hold soil and sod. For your stove; a pain, but a pair of needle nose pliers will solve the problem.

Also, to stabilize legs - a piece of metal stock (aluminum) between the lower crossbeams of legs would force them to stay apart on any ground in the event you can’t stake them.

I'm so jealous when I see everyone pressing their little stakes into the ground with the toe of their shoe and never bending them or using a tool lol. I'm in the desert in rocky areas and even when I'm in the meager woods we have, it's so tough that I had to go buy heavy-duty stakes and I have to bring a hammer with me because the force needed to drive the stake into the rocky ground shatters most rocks I try to use to hammer them in, ironically.

Lol. I was wondering if you were drinking your oatmeal - and you answered my question right away! Great review, you explained everything I wanted to know, right down to the smoke smell covering everything and needing a wash/wipe down. Totally understandable on using the chainsaw, you were prepared and these are good options to consider when a storm is coming - wanting wet wood or dry wood to use, let me think… Dinner looked delish! I really liked the table. Very compact and lightweight compared to a card table or one of those finger pincher camp tables. The holes in the stove legs, makes me wonder if a rod that extends between the two was missing or could be added which would lock the legs apart. Thanks for the video.

My thought was to use a threaded rod, large washers and nuts to spread the legs using the holes.

I would never park my vehicle that far from my tent. But each to his own. And my vehicle would be facing the exit way.You are brave especially being alone in the woods. Be safe out there.

Seems like a great camping spot, on the highest point of the hill. Excellent for extreme conditions. It's so enjoyable to drive the truck to the place where you wish to camp. Perfect for a luxurious camp-out!
