Syed Muzammil Shah is a journalist and the host of the show Statecraft on Express News.
Zahid Hussain is an award-winning journalist and writer. He is a correspondent for The Times of London and The Wall Street Journal. He also has covered Pakistan and Afghanistan for several other international publications, including Newsweek, the Associated Press and The Economist.
Hussain has authored two books: Frontline Pakistan: The struggle with militant Islam (2007) and The scorpion’s Tail: The relentless rise of Islamic militants in Pakistan (2010). The books have won widespread acclaim as seminal texts on the subject.
Ihsanullah Tipu Mehsud is an Islamabad based Pakistani Journalist with over a decade of experience in print, online and television journalism. He extensively covers militancy, conflict, Jihadist movements, ideologies and other related security issues in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region. He is the Co-founder and Director News at The Khorasan Diary.
Dr Iftikhar Firdous has been editor for two major publications in Pakistan. His career spans over 15 years reporting from conflict zones. He has a degree in psycholinguistics and is an author of several research papers analysing the discourse surrounding transnational terrorist organisations. He is also an accomplished author who has contributed to published academic anthologies on conflict, governance and policy. He is the founder of The Khorasan Diary.

I’m sure you’re talking about Pakistani Talibans, because Afghan Taliban emerged in 1994 as a prominent faction in the Afghan Civil War and largely consisted of students from the Pashtun areas of east and south Afghanistan, who had been educated in traditional Islamic schools Under the leadership of Mullah Omar in Afghanistan, later on Pakistan government provided military support to Talibans but they didn't get trained in Pakistan, now Pakistan ISI is training Isis... anyways , afghan Talibans are true patriotic. Rest is totally a fabrication of your mind, nobody can objectively say that Afghanistan is progressing. The only hope for Afghanistan is that you keep your population down and enjoy the fruits of your land. If you start procreating like Pakistan you would neither food or water. Forget about schooling, if blinds leads a blind both will end up in n ditch. Half of your population can’t get good schooling other half you don’t allow. If mothers of the country stay uneducated, whole country will stay uneducated. No matter how much safety or Namaz or Islamic law you may have.

19:50 as an indian i would want stability in India for that stability in whole pak system is required. but regarding terrorism.. ⬇️🔽 1. de link islam with terrorism via govt sponsored maulanas . 2. promote ideas of integrating liberalism with Islam.. via a political consensus between relevant political parties and civil society organisations. 3. allow warlords a breathing space of 2 years.. give them in political space in regions via mainstream nationalist parties. 4. promote scientific thinking in society by giving more importance to scientists, sportsman than clergy and communal politicians. 5. Pakistan needs funds for prosperity, delink economic activity from pak military. 6. remove terror as foreign policy tool.. maintain friendly ties with neighbours especially India, Afghanistan and Iran. as there r no permanent friends nor enemies nor ideology but interests.

Good to revisit this (and I think appropriate in the context of the new Ops decision) and thanks. I have two questions on the media that I'd appreciate if you or Muzammil will address. Recently, Tajikistan parliament formally banned the hijab (although there was a soft ban on it and beards for a while). No Pakistani newspaper reported (well, at least, the English ones). A cursory search of the main TV channels also returned zilch. While one can guess (even from here in India) why Pakistan's mainstream media practices such obfuscation and sleight of hand operation, I'm surprised that even social media has avoided it. Other than how this reflects on the integrity of Pakistani media, the reasons you two guys must discuss this is to highlight the incontrovertible truth that (1) military ops is not enough to curb extremism (needs a more organic approach/solution) and (2) just like the previous point, neither will banning beards and hijabs solve the problem. While I find it reprehensible that a state anywhere should determine how citizens present themselves, it is also dangerous and it has potential for sparking a revolt. What comes will be more dangerous by an order of magnitude. (Tajikistan's Persian-speaking neighbor is kind of an example after the Shah-era). The next one is a little dicey for you to discuss, I recognize. Other than a press release (read state "memo") imprint, no one discusses the recent news of some media persons' property being seized. Although the charges against them are old, their properties being seized in a new order and an opportunity for social media to discuss. I know why but I hope someone will discuss. And "the eyes" in the sky watching this, I'd like them to know that, one day, their time will also be over and you'll be eating crow. That's the way life goes. DISCLOSURE: I'm not a PTI supporter. I'm not even a Pakistani. I'm Indian but I do not delight in the misery people go through under an oppressive state and self-serving elites - be it India or Pakistan.

After several military failures against India, the Pakistani establishment tried asymmetrical warfare using guerrillas and terrorists. General Hamid Gul, late of the ISI, declared, "India is too big. It will have to be broken up first." However, this didn't work either. India was able to successfully adapt to this near constant state of low intensity conflict. The major causes of death in India are atmospheric pollution, followed by coronary heart disease, pothole-related traffic accidents, etc. As a cause of mass deaths in India, terrorism ranks very low on the list - and has not caused any real disruption to Indian society at large. Pakistan's state-sponsored terrorism has failed to significantly shake the foundations of the Indian state. And the Modi government has pursued a consistent policy of isolating Pakistan economically and diplomatically that will probably eventually show results...

What's more, Central Asian nations are actively seeking cooperation with Kabul, and there's even discussion on excluding the movement from the terror list (for example, the Taliban delegation attended SPIEF 2024 in Russia this year 👀). Earlier Pakistan wanted to control Afganistan policies for to help its strategic depth and them to fight against India. Now the reverse has happened. India got strategic depth even in the western borders of Pakistan and Afganistan is expanding its sphere of influence inside Pakistan. There will be huge unrest, uncontrollable, in Baluchistan and Kaibar Pakthunkva.
