It's really the dumbest possible ranking system you can think of. The only truly accurate metric of how well those drafts turned out is the future productivity of those players, but you can't do that within 15 minutes of the players being drafted, so we lose patience with it. The best "instant soup" version of a draft grade would probably be something like an average consensus draft position vs where each player was selected at. But even that is stupid because it doesn't reflect whether a player actually ends up being any good.
@RedMage117
@RedMage117 Ай бұрын
Yeah that only really tells you how well they did compared to how well they should have. So you look at their picks and determine what scire they should have got and then look at what they got and the difference is their score. That makes more sense

@Tribleman247 Seriously? You know spreadsheets (at the simplest level) have a sort function, right? You sort by QB then rankings if your "situation" calls for drafting the best QB, and the highest ranked QB pops up right there at the top. Later in the draft, you just want the "best available player"? Just sort by the ranking. Both scenarios require "boiling it down to a number" before they're possible.

Spot on with the "more picks more points". A better methodology would be to add all the points, then divide by the number of picks. Giving draft grades is basically just to give sports journalists something to talk about, they do nothing else at all. There is no way you can judge the efficiency of a pick by its value. The same guy at the same position has different value for other teams. Penix at 8th for the giants is different than penix at 8th to the falcons, chiefs, bills etc. And nobody knows if rookie transfer and adapt well to the nfl. All you can say after a draft is whether a team filled the positions they were lacking, nothing else.

Eagles got, what, 3 2025 draft picks? And still got all those players. Bet he doesn't even bother with that. Also you are grading draft process decisions, not players.

If you talking heads want to do a draft show that is credible then present what pundits graded and predicted lets say 5 years ago ... now that is something that I would like to see

Colts are not that good. Pat says every year how they are the best team in the nfl when they aren’t even the best in the afc, maybe not even their own division.. patriots are the same. They drafted a quarerback 4 years ago too and they are apparently the best team in the nfl again. Ask the jags how Mac jones feels on their roster. Steelers went all offensive lineman which is a great draft when you already have everything else you need. Their secondary could really use some help but big people in the trenches can never hurt your team.

The Steelers and the management are tired of losing the fans are tired of losing butt with Tomlin on the clock right now he's going to have a short leash if he doesn't do something with this talent that they have this coming year and they are building quality depth at every position because they know what happened last year with the linebacking crew

When you take into account that the bears used draft picks to also acquire Montez sweat and Keenan Allen they easily won the draft

that's a little silly. The top guy (150pts) might be a 150 for most teams, but if the Chiefs had drafted Caleb Williams at #1 that wouldn't be a great choice. Need totally matters. See: the Atlanta Falcons...

I'm starting to lose respect for people who keep using the trope "what are we doin?", or "what are we talkin' about". It's over used, unoriginal, lazy, and has overstayed it's welcome. Somebody make it stop!
