Dylane does a really good job with her explanation of quand (when and other related words in English) and how english speakers need to think very carefully when quand is used - by way of example, let us consider the following statement and notice how poorly english handles the tenses "Since you are at the shops my friend, will you buy me a can of coke and I will pay you back when I see you" - now lets just look at the last bit "I will pay you back when (so here is the "quand") I see you" - it sounds perfectly fine to english speakers but think carefully "when I see you" is in the present tense i.e. I am seeing you right now (so just give me the money) ! What english should really say is "I will pay you back when I will see you (since I am not currently seeing you but I will in the future). In summary, be very wary in french when using Quand or similar words and see if the future tense is in some way implied, if it is, you MUST use the future tense in French, there is no other option

I understand this grammar very well, but I can't deny that I still make some mistakes when using it after a conjunction because in English we use the simple present and in Spanish we use the subjunctive when using the simple future after a conjunction. Il me faut beaucoup pratiquer. 🙂
