She failed to complete compulsory training. The REA is a government authority who issues agents' licences. Agents have to pay almost a thousand dollars for the REA to process their annual application. The application also has to include evidence and a declaration that the 20 hours of training has been completed. They would become liable if they kept her as one of their salespersons. The penalties for that would be in the tens of thousands, and the managers would likely also lose their licenses. Harcourts had no choice here.

This is pretty mild requirement compared to what is expected of school teachers who have to justify their understand of and appreciation of the Te Reo and of their interactions with Maori students. Unless you can prove your understanding of such you can't have your registration confirmed when it comes up for renewal. The requirements that teachers show competency, knowledge and appreciation of Tikunga and Te Reo are part of a teacher's performance review and has to be signed off by their manager each year. The school that I taught at chanted karakia, sang waiata (both accompanied by finishing with an amen). This in an education system that by law has to be secular. The old days when Christian church representatives came to schools to preach to students are now heavily proscribed, usually done on a voluntary basis at lunchtimes. We controlled how Christian proseletisers accessed students and that has been replaced by the observing of Maori spiritualism - hardly secular -and it happened most days at staff meetings.

Why does the Real Estate Authority not conduct an anonymous poll of all their agents on their support for the stipulations of DEI and the "Principles" of the Treaty of Waitangi? Janet Dixon is likely one of those rare people of conviction who will hazard their career for what they believe; they normally constitute a tiny fraction of people - her views are very likely the majority view for all NZ Real Estate agents, most are simply not prepared to pay for their views with their career. WHY DO WE PUT UP WITH THIS SORT OF SCHOOLYARD BULLYING FROM PROFESSIONAL BODIES?????

As a Christian, you should never be compelled to engage in any religious activity - especially under threat of losing your livelihood. That is absolutely not what we want in a free society. Excellent point, The answer to your question won't be appreciated by the current home owners but house prices HAVE TO FALL DRAMATICALLY. Building more homes on smaller and smaller sections for exurpratent prices is not helping even if it's a cash cow for Councils. Supply and demand is fine in a free market but we don't live in a free market economy when homes are also investments and the system is controlled by central and local government. 1/4 Acre section with 3 bedroom home MAX $300,000. That's affordable for Any Kiwi on a normal wage(Not Average wage) also includes space so kids and pets can have a SAFE place to enjoy being OUTSIDE, oh and a vegetable garden($3 Brocolli $7 Cauliflower and $10 pumpkin wtf!!!)
@JimmyStrings
@JimmyStrings 3 ай бұрын
I'm skeptical that this is a relevant concern for government? I mean they are concerned insofar as they think the issue of home ownership could cost them power, but years ago when I heard John Key say it was his duty to protect the equity of New Zealand home owners I basically gave up on them altogether (not just Key, the whole govt) I don't understand how we can have housing that is cheaper and we also protect the equity of home owners as represented by the paper value of their homes. We have our own home and a proper drop in home prices would negatively effect our financial position, however I think it would be objectively good to get more families into cheaper homes that could be paid off in 10 years - not 20 or 30 years. It just seems like an insurmountable problem with the style of economic and political governance we have now.

Unfortunately, these industry/professional management bodies are allowed to be a law unto themselves, as Jordan Peterson is finding. Highest Courts are supporting this, especially when those bodies are behaving woke. I really hope this legal action in NZ can clip their wings. Regarding cultural training, it's not so simple as just attending and getting it ticked off. It requires you to be capable of dishonesty, pretending you agree with lies and misrepresentations about Te Tiriti, tikanga, government responses to past insurrections, and Maori life before European colonization. If you argue or object, i.e. respond with truth or rational thinking, that's worse than refusing to go.
