I hope there's a corresponding trend of female dancers learning trick jumps/ other traditionally "male" steps. A lot of these categorizations are more or less arbitrary and these male pointe dancers are helping to prove that.

I think if people want to they should be able to but personally I ams cared I will break everything if I were to do it. (for context I am a ballet dancer and have danced for most my life im just happy to leave them doing those jumps).

With that females need to be allowed to have muscular legs to be able to do said jumps. But then I think they should be encouraged to be more muscular anyway

This is what I did when my hips still worked - I could jump super high, I was more power than grace, so I was working on so many jumps and turns.

Can we just talk about the joy that so many men seem to find in dancing in pointe shoes and a tutu? I feel like professionals in the field sometimes can get used to it and so lose the childlike glee of feeling a bit like a fairy. It's wonderful to see these men have so much fun and remind their fellow dancers of why they do what they do. 😊

As a former male ballet dancer, doing the tricks and turns were a real mental block to get over. Once you do clear that hurdle though, you lose all survival skills and do the most insane things. Or maybe that was just me and my friends being unhinged lol.

I love what you said about men en pointe being something that shows their masculinity, it just clarified for me something I've been struggling to express, which is that all activities are for all genders, and whether it's "masculine" or "feminine" is created by YOU and how you express yourself. An activity doesn't define you or change your identity, you are the definition and express it in everything you do

She started pointe last year working with her instructor who stated that she was the youngest dancer ready for pointe that he ever had. I know I’m biased, being her Grandmother, but she has worked so hard to get here that I can’t help but toot her horn a little bit ❤

It just needs to be done. That’s how men en pointe has developed to the stage that it’s accepted to the stage it is(and there’s still a lot of push back and gate keeping)Women need to push for those variations, and partnering, and just keep DOING them until basically you wear the objectors down. There IS support out there.

Actually no X'D I've done both for a hobby for some years and it's cursed. Cause while the elegance looks similar and some things can help in the other sport, they are quite fundamentally different and I assure you that the tendency to point your toes can get you killed on ice XD Figure skating is actually more rough than ballet is elegant. The things that you learn when you turn are utterly different. You suddenly need to endure nausea rather than fixating on one point like in ballet. You can NOT go and separate body movements in the same way you can in ballet. You need to keep a strong core at all times. I was getting into trouble with figure skating specifically cause my body tried to solve problems the ballet way and ... it did nooot work well on ice at all XDDDDDD
