"Pergolesi tinha 26 anos quando escreveu "Stabat mater", que descreve o pesar da Virgem Sagrada, diante da cruz do Cristo moribundo. Todos o sofrimento do mundo é simbolizado em suas esplêndidas linhas. Visto que Pergolesi estava sofrendo de tuberculose quando compôs Stabat Mater, ele é aquele filho, morrendo na cruz também. De fato, ele morreu alguns meses depois do término da obra. Esta não é uma complexa ou ambiciosa peça de música, simplesmente a expressão da fé de um compositor, ela mostra a forma, pela qual profundos e atormentados sentimentos podem atingir unidade e liberdade através da música. A voz de Maria é escrita para dois cantores, a melodia se ergue lenta e dolorosamente eliminando a dissonância quando as vozes se confrontam, representando o conflito e o pesar que ela carrega." - Roger Scruton Impossível não se emocionar ouvindo isso.

Absolutely a masterpiece at a moment that Europe was culturally at its highest level. In all cultural aspects (thinking also of the highest talented painters). So much respect for such talented singers and the talented Pergolesi, Bach, Mozart etc. etc. who for unknown reasons had to die at such a young age. I'm still proud and thankful I'm European

I notice that no one is complaining about the strings vibrato and modern instruments?! No, it isn‘t a ‚historically accurate‘ performance according to some people’s taste but it is still a beautiful, musical performance. Opera singers like this can‘t just take their vibrato off, it is an inbuilt technique of voice production. If the people that hired them wanted a different sound, they would have hired different singers. Sit back and enjoy it for what it is. If you din‘t like it, click on another performance.

Oh wow, link please. Don't beat me up, but Floor never worked for me. I was ok with Anette, and of course Tarja, but by the time Floor arrived the band was already spent. Sadly Within Temptation has lost its spark too. But it's ok, they are "not hear to entertain" us anymore. LOL.

Using vibrato to perform baroque music can be ok (Lots of baroque singers use some natural vibrato) But here the vibrato is just plain romantic.

Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710 - 1736) was an Italian composer best remembered for his Stabat Mater Dolorosa (1736). Pergolesi died at the age of 26 from tuberculosis. J.S. Bach used the same melody for his own cantata 'Tilge, Höchster, meine Sünden' (Root out my sins, Highest One), BWV 1083.

These vocal classifications didn't even exist until the mid 19th century. Not even Rossini, who lived several decades after Pergolesi died, wrote anything for a "soprano leggera", "soprano lirica" etc. Pergolesi wrote this for a soprano and an alto voice, and of course the tessitura of a countertenor can be perfectly sung by a mezzo-soprano or contralto. Those 18th century composers didn't have strict "fach" in their minds when they composed. We "moderns" classificate everyone, not them.
