As much as you might detest the arrogance that has crept into the supreme leader and his party, taking oath in Indian Parliament after swearing allegiance to Palestine cannot be legally allowed to stand. He should be sworn in again after paying obeisance to India, the country where he physically resides and whose voters have elected him irrespective of where his heart and loyalty lies. This is the least he can do for this nation.

It is truly astounding that a member of Indian parliament is so openly flaunting his utter disregard for the nation that has bred, fed, enriched and elevated him to such high office. All other memebers irrespective of party lines should inisist that he take an oath again and formally renounce his oath of loyalty to a foreign country/territory. I wonder if it was a Freudian slip or he is truly that far gone.

A lot of difference between then and now, BJP has a background of 10 years of stable rule . JD(U) and TDP would like to reap the benifits of their say for next 5 years and would not like to share it with DMK, NCP,TMC,SP etc. BJP will rule for next 5 years, but with a strong opposition, hopefully Congress leads it smartly and wait for its turn, not trying to be the GARLAND straight away , but be the tread that knots the rainbow of opposition parties into a garland.

There is nothing nervous. The speaker always goes to the ruling side. If anything goes out of hand and deputy presides by default becomes speaker, so like you said deputy should not be given

I only hope the opposition behaves like a true opposition, indulging in meaningful debate instead of walking out every now and then or getting suspended. You have now shown the world you have 'protected' democracy in the country, now show that you are its worthy worshippers by behaving well in Parliament, the temple of democracy. The World needs to see this also.

I am a person with cerebral palsy, PhD scholar from JNU, my area of a specialisation is disability studies. Uttar Pradesh government has given me in writing that they haven't identified people with cerebral palsy suitable for teaching positions while central government according to the new disability law has allowed people with cerebral palsy to teach in higher education such a paradox. I have tried reaching out to chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Also tweeted to Prime Minister office. I have filed a petition in High Court of Allahabad but for 2 years now they are only giving me new dates

If a leader is decisive, he/she would be called a dictator. If a leader is accommodative, he/she would be called indecisive. You cannot please everyone. Is it not better to have a decisive leader who may be deeply disliked by some but is good for the nation? For some 'spice', is it fair to make decision-making difficult?

Yes. Decision making is meant to be inclusive of and representative for the entire citizenry and not "easy". That's simply what democracy means. Those who can't digest such egalitarian complexity are better off packing their bags and moving to some primitive monarchy where they can fully enjoy their master-slave fantasies and have some big daddy come and trample upon their freedoms.

In 1984, the AIADMK was in alliance with the Congress and helped them win 20+ seats from TN through relaxed seat sharing. So technically Rajiv Gandhi's deputy speaker wasn't from the opposition.

Here's why I will assume the worst when it comes to Owaisi's intentions. The last time the muslim political class wept for another Islamic country (establishing a caliphate in Turkey, a hundred years ago), it led to a massacre of the Hindus in Kerala (Mophla massacre) that was fanned MK Gandhi's appeasement of the Ali brothers. Since Owaisi draws his inspiration from the same ideology, it's logical to assume the worst until proven otherwise.

@@driasalta4834 Let me explain. The oath of an MP is prescribed by the constiution - Third Schedule, Part B. If you say those words, your oath is done. Many MPs said a lot of things before and after the oath. Someone said JSR, some said Bismillah. One said Jai Hindu Rashtra, one said Jai Palestine. NONE of that is part of oath. Yet, all their oath is valid. Why? Because they said the magic words prescribed by the constitution. Thank you for coming to my class. Have a good day.

Rajiv Gandhi with 400+ seats had deputy speaker but Modi with 303 seats didn't have that. Now with 240 seats, he doesn't want to have deputy speaker. All indications of a insecure person and personality who is small minded.

@@ckush928 I kind of agree and disagree, day to day happens because of your own actions and I totally agree, no politician can change that. This video, however is talking of a fact which is a clear cut evidence that the constituion was bypassed, if you were to interpret constitution this way, then you dont need a speaker also you dont need anything every bill will be a money bill and Rajya Sabha will be dead, however useless the opposition is, them remaining there will ensure that there is a chance for a sunrise some day. This is exactly how coutries like Russia moved towards what they are today, North Korea happened after a war but Russia is a gradual degradation and if we are following a system, we have to look at good and bad examples and keep course correcting.

Speaker post was contested in 1967 also. The convention of Dy.speaker going to opposition party is not honored by Congress in lokasabha and in many Congress ruled states. Half truths

Why is it just governments responsibility to ensure that opposition takes part in debates on important bills, if opposition had been serious about participation in discussions on criminal laws it could have very well done, but it choose not to.

the outcome of speaker election is well known, given that there were public reports of TMC, Sharad Pawer expressing disappointment over NOT being consulted by Congress over its choice. So, other than an election for speaker post, that further indicated lack of unity among so called opposition alliance, barely days after election result, what else has it shown or prove that something has changed ? your analysis of fraying strongman model does not hold much water based on we see thus far
