In this episode we explore an abandoned prison hospital that was once a state sanatorium. Originally opened over 100 years ago, this hospital is still filled with medical equipment and patient files.

Makes me think about all the time I spent in the hospital as a kid. I had 30 + surgeries by the age of 14. That hospital went through many transformations through the years. It's cool seeing the older styles and some of the SUPER old styles again

I bought one of those Ridge Wallets and I love it. I am all for the ridge wallet revolution! Thank you for selecting a sponsor that makes amazing stuff. More people need to be aware of RFID and how it's data on your credit card can be stolen remotely. I've been aware of it for a long time and finally pulled the trigger on one of these wallets. Amazing, I hope it lasts for years.

I love how respectful you are of every location you go to and how committed you are to documenting things exactly how they are when you walk in. I hate watching other explorers that talk about staging things to get the photo they want or a better video. I don’t want to see something fake. Part of the magic of these videos is recording history and how thing were left and how the naturally decay with time.

well even if they went in with bad intentions they are filming it so they would be making their own evidence, that and no one would like them, including the law... besides i think even removing a souvenir would be a bad idea, because if you're caught outside and they find the item you picked up... that can be considered stealing... because abandoned places like this fall under a different class then say an abandoned mine that hasn't been open in probably 30 - 100 yrs, and most are on public land... Where most of these places are actually private property, hence why the boys try and avoid contact inside as much as possible... trespassing can carry jail time :) What i like is they do more than just leg work, they do research so they kinda know a little bit about what they are wondering around in... keep up the great work you guys, been watching your stuff for about a month now... and 2 thumbs up! I do catch some stuff being an old bastard lol, the asbestos tiles, they technically are far less a risk to walk on(well when they are taken care of that is) then when they are made or installed and taken out... believe it or not a lot of your older operating hospitals still have floors covered in them, its cheaper to keep them waxed and fresh then to replace... but this place, i can near guarantee the reason it is still there is mostly due a lot to those tiles, and the fact its a hospital... the ceilings walls and floors are all probably loaded with asbestos materials... keep fire risk low... but again walking on then is far more safe than placing them or making them, any time you have to cut them... moisture can help keep the dust down which is good, but i would explore a old place with out at least a double layer cloth mask on... better safe then sorry mom always said :)

I love that there’s no graffiti or serious vandalism visible. It makes the site much more interesting. I get sad when people destroy abandoned sites just for the hell of it. Thank you for trying to protect it from potential vandalism. Also, why is there still a pay phone inside? I thought the phone companies usually remove them when they’re no longer used.

One of the things that happens in America when a building closes is, things literally close down in weeks. And the last people to leave dont really know that they will be the last people in there legally for the next 10-30years. So the records would of been sorted through and prepared to be shipped out, but noone came to ship them out.

Almost every public place I've seen video taped has had some kind of personal files left behind. If they aren't interested in moving out expensive equipment that could surely at the time be used elsewhere. Why take time to dispose of any public records? It is called laziness, and lack of moral obligation.

@@NOSUBSCRIBERSWANTED If any one person or Govt entity, etc. were taking any kind of responsibility for all these abandoned places with all this very personal data being left for anyone to find who cares to. Then guess what, this would have been handled professionally and appropriately from the very onset of abandonment. However, noone has been held responsible therefore we shall continue finding abandoned buildings with personal data left behind. With enough information for criminals to get fake identities. Because several of these files are from the deceased. Holding everything a criminals heart desires to become anyone of them names they choose to become.

Same! I’m kind of confused as to how that even happens. Cause I always thought that when buildings shut down and close, they try to move it all to a new location, sell it, or get rid of it all. Why do they leave stuff behind? Unless it was like a legit emergency where they had to leave in a hurry like a nuclear power plant nearby exploded... I don’t understand.

Having worked in a large retail grocery store for many years, I was thinking the same. The coolers were likely built that way due to the variances in temperature. 15:14 The ole Hoya Lift!!! Lol! I haven't seens one of those in YEARSSSSSS!!!!! They would have had chains that hooked to a pad, top and bottom on each side...usually for a very heavy, dead weight person, or just an extremely large person where a 'lift and pivot' or 'two person transfer' would be a little more dangerous for both the healthcare worker AND the Pt. The healthcare worker would then pump that long handle and the arm would lift the patient and one worker would guide the patient, while the other worker would pull the wheels out from either under the bed, or out from in front of the chair they were lifting the person out of and it'd be like the patient was in a swing. They'd then guide the pts legs into bed, or out of, and line them up where they'd want the patient to "land" and you'd push that handle into the bar where there was like a release valve and they'd SLOWLY, lol, let the patient down into place, while the other worker guides the patient into bed or the chair and you'd hope like hell they get the person right into the correct spot, high enough because you have to roll the patient back and forth to get them off the pad with chains bc you obviously can't leave it under the patient! Lol, it was usually hell for both workers AND the patient. I def do not miss those things!! Funny thing is, these places were always short staffed, so finding someone to work the thing while you guide the pt was a pain and would slow you down when you had so much other work to do too, so sometimes, if the person was an easy Hoya, you'd take the chance and do it yourself...but if you got caught, you'd get reprimanded and get caught enough and you'd get written up, lol! Can ya tell I got written up a time or two?? I also did private home care and we ALL did Hoya lifts alone if the person that was at home getting private care because they arent going to send someone in for a 5 min job! So, I would just do it alone at the facility too, but bc of state regs, it was a no-no...to get caught anyway, lol!

Are you a nurse? What system do they use now instead of this “Hoya Lift” thing? Sounds way too complicated. Lifting, turning, pumping, pushing, making sure you do it slowly. Sounds like defusing a bomb.

In a few of their videos they've encountered people who are homeless. Luckily these guys are extremely respectful of their space and haven't had anything too bad.

There's a few videos of them bumping into people- there was a homeless dude in the abandoned funeral home, and some pretty chill scrapers in Louisiana. There have also been NOT chill scrapers where they ~properly~ peaced tf out.

@Jacob Dean idk why it would crack you up, it's an honest question. And they probably get new viewers quite often, look at the views, it's not all just their followers. Anyone would want to know when stumbling upon videos of people looking through abandoned places.

It's amazing how much decay could happen in just 10 years. 10 years ago I was working overseas! I guess when these places close, there's no budget for throwing stuff away and shredding patient records?
