The day has finally come where I finally show you what my tiny Paris apartment looks like! If you are new, I've lived in Paris for 7 years and in this place since January. The flat is quite small (150 square feet or 14m2 to be exact), but it's cozy, warm and uh, cheap haha. Even though I'm a bit late to filming this, I wanted to do an official Paris apartment tour because I feel like for people like me who are on a budget or students, it might be encouraging to see that you can find a cute studio apartment that's not super expensive and is still in a good area in the city. French apartments have a lot of old charm which I love and this space has a lot of storage and even a pretty view :) I know my palace family have seen a lot of it, but I wanted to show you how I decorated it, the layout and flow as well as share some small living tips and some things I would do differently if I were apartment hunting again. I hope you enjoy getting to come into my home and please be kind as this space is very dear to me. If you like this video, you can subscribe for videos every Tuesday. I love you, thanks for being my friends!

Just have to say that as a 40 year old now, living in my own home with three toilets and an income property… and all the challenges and work those things bring…I often reminisce about my tiny studio from my twenties. I paid $600/month in a hip San Diego neighborhood. Saved my money. Traveled. Went out to good restaurants. Walked to work. It was a glorious time. More “property “ does not equal more happiness.

Only that now you would pay as much for that studio as you would pay for an entire house during that time. Homeownership is not even a choice for people anymore, rents are high but mortages for average houses are even higher.

The point about "keeping up with the Jones'" is such a good one! I feel like people feel pressured to live above their means, especially in the internet era where we have so much lifestyle inspo and so many "it girls," and then people end up in debt but still feel too judged to dial their spending back. It's really sad so I'm so glad you're putting out this pragmatic message of prioritising

I always have lived in nests that are a hug-of-a-home and, as an artist, paying less rent made it possible for me to be an artist at the beginning when I earned less money; later, I was just more comfy in smaller places. Brava. And, you live in Paris. I live in a little city in Tuscany and am so happy with my small lovely place filled with books and two steps from a park, the butcher, the cafe...it is heavenly. No car. Bike only. Heaven. My first flat here was equivalent to $450 to $650 and was more than a local would have paid but that was ok...Yes, if you want to share, show us budgets...Take care.

What a fun tour! On the financial front, I’d love to hear about how being an artist intersects with finance/planning for a future. As a writer, I’m finding that having a day job actually helps free me up to make work that is rewarding, but doesn’t pay much. But I know there are a lot of different takes on the creative life + making a living, and I’d love to hear yours!

This video warmed my heart so much. It’s so lovely to see how you’ve made a small space so cosy and your own. And I love your grateful and accepting attitude towards the inconveniences that came with a place that is not perfect. In the past two years, I’ve been so unhappy with my 12m2 dorm room with shared kitchen, toilet and shower. But I needed to stay because the rent was cheap (200€ including utilities in a student town in Germany). I’ve gone through many moments of frustration, going online to check out apartments that I can’t afford just yet and ranting to my friends. While my struggles are valid, watching this cute video has shown me that it is possible to be happy with less. So I thank you, you’re a lovely person.

Love your videos so much❤ a few of my favourite moments with you were - when you concluded the neighbour drama video with a positive lesson learnt by explaining you had said to the universe you wanted to stand up more for yourself and the universe gave you an oppertunity to make you practice that- I'm not really a spiritual person but now when something makes my mood plummet I know there's always something that can lift it right back up, I just have to do it myself. -how you expressed your emotions about your break up, finished all thoughts, showed the variety of phases of your emotions, deliberately filmed your lowest moments. -when you explained why you share so much and, something which I find almost radical, said you think other youtubers should do the same thing to show not only the highs but also the lows. You make me regret less because it seems like even when you're as empathetic and fabulous and posess the ability think critically, drama is sometimes unavoidable

Thanks Shayna,I was wondering the whole time where the hell is toilet, I was saying there's no chance not to have a toilet unless I haven't seen it. The plant in the corner is an Aloe ..great to heal wounds especially helpful with burns ...so perfect in the Kitchen x Pretty sure the shower is up high so they did not have to break through the flooring (probably cement) and just put the pipes along floor

Made it to the end! I live in NYC and I would say the average or cheapest apartments you will find in certain areas of Brooklyn are $1800+. You can find cheaper in a further area but then you have to think about transport / how much u might spend on train, ubers etc. I pay $1300 to share an apartment with two other ppl (strangers!) in greenpoint. That’s the most I’ve ever paid but my room feels like a studio and I have a private entrance. Making it work to save $500 a month as opposed to living alone! Thank you for sharing your apartment and having a relatable perspective on frugality. Love to you always and excited to follow u on your journey ✨💞

love this video! major paris envy. the way you have made your space homey and organized is so cute! i live in Asheville, NC, USA. it’s town in the blue ridge mountains between the TN and NC border. this town is known for the Biltmore House. rent here can be crazy! i share a home with my sister. we are lucky enough that our family owns the home so we do not have rent to pay, just utilities and living expenses. but for a one bedroom here it can be anywhere from $900 plus. just for a one bedroom. it’s getting more and more expensive! love you and thank you for the continuous inspiration 💜✨

Paris is actually cheaper than I thought. I expected renting prices to be similar to those in London where you can have only a room for that price. Also your flat may seem to be small but it's totally adorable.

Paris has THOUSANDS of what used to be maids’ rooms for the lower floor apartments. They’re called ‘chambres de bonne.´ That famous Paris-style building (a Haussmanian building) with a shop on the bottom floor, five floors of apartments, then a sloped roof with attic windows? Under that sloped roof are the ‘chambers de bonne.’ If they’re at least 9 square meters (about 100 sq ft) you can rent them out, They rent for about $600 a month, usually to students, artists, or people will rent them to use as a person office. Renting anything else in Paris is NOT cheap, it’s a very expensive city. There are a zillion rules about renting chambres de bonne, if they’re one centimeter under 9m it’s ILLEGAL to rent them out and the city takes it very seriously. Two people can’t live in one unless it’s at least 15m. If it’s 12m on the floor but there are only 7m where you can stand up, it’s illegal to rent it. Paris chambres de bonne are a whole phenomenon in themselves.

Posted 2 minutes ago lol,, I've never clocked a video so fast ngl. I like in South Korea! We pay about $500 a month, but you have to pay a shitload of money up front here lol. I thought apartments in Korea were small, but this is super tiny! It's so charming, the vibes in here look immaculate. I bought a little monstera because I always loved seing it so much in her videos :')
