My bananas always turn out perfect but they take a long time to dehydrate. Almost 24 hrs on 135F but for the last few hrs I turn the heat up to 150F so they get nice and crunchy. I also use bananas that are not too ripe and don’t use lemon.

When I got my dehydrator, the first project I tried was bananas. Oops! I made all the errors you showed in this video and then some. It took 2 days to get close to dry. I was so disheartened that I put the dehydrator back in the box and almost sent it back. It stayed in the box for 2 years. Then I found your channel. Thanks so much for all your teaching! Now, I love my dehydrator, it is a off-brand from Amazon. I have done so many projects that I love and depend on having in my pantry.

My son loves banana chips. But ripe some brown outside fairly soft inside. Slice diagonally, loves the shape, I try . Onto tray in dehydrator 125 till done. Almost day and half. Very sweet and store well. Takes hiking, snacks. Camping. Are crisp, and he said way better than store bought crap. Got some still in ziploc bag from 6-8 months. Still great.

@ThePurposefulPantry

It'll be hotter, thus you'll lose more of the heat sensitive nutrients, and you'll want to keep the door cracked, if possible, to allow heat and moisture to escape, and watch that they don't burn.

Well, I must be the oddball because I want my bananas to turn out pliable - like fruit leather, but still bananas - like the product "Just Bananas, Flattened" that Trader Joe's used to carry. My first attempt last night - on sheets of wax paper (cuz I saw that somewhere else??) - 8 hrs @ 135F, and they came out almost perfect except permanently stuck to the wax paper. I took my banana halves and smashed them (just like the flattened bananas), so I wasn't sure how to do that and use the silicone mesh sheets... I had to throw them all away (unless I wanted to eat wax paper, lol). ....As I type this, I see your "banana fruit leather roll ups" video on the right, but that's not what I want - I still want them to look like bananas. Oh well - back to the drawing board (sure did hurt to throw 5 bananas away...).
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 3 ай бұрын
Don't use wax paper ;) Sorry that they didn't turn out, but wax paper isn't recommended for dehydrating. And don't ever go by time...go by if it's actually dry or not. And for what it's worth, since we don't use the preservatives that are used to keep fruits softer like commercial brands, you'll want ot make sure to keep your dried bananas in the fridge if you don't dry them fully - moisture can equal mold in storage.
@PurpleishFluffyClouds
@PurpleishFluffyClouds 3 ай бұрын
@@ThePurposefulPantry You know, my better sense of logic told me wax paper and heat doesn't go together, but this other KZfaqr said to do it so I just took that on faith and forged ahead (then set it for 8 hrs. and went to bed, lol). Lesson learned. Thank you for taking the time to comment - and I'll be storing them in the fridge for sure! Have a great day :D
