The QB Room

8 ай бұрын

The smartest football analyst on TV, Dan Orlovsky, joins The QB Room this week! Fan sentiment around the NFL has been that quarterback play has been down this year. We debate that, play NFL QB superlatives, and discuss the record number of rookie quarterbacks that have started this year. Quarterbacks we talk about include: CJ Stroud, Will Levis, Sam Howell, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Blaine Gabbert, Patrick Mahomes, and our most recent guest, Jalen Milroe.

Good call on Howell being underrated. One thing a lot of people moss with him as theres only been 2 maybe 3 games where he didnt have at least 9-11 pass catchers. He spreads the ball around as good as the best of them

Love the content guys, as a Texans fan, I really appreciate the Jerrod Johnson shout out. Jerrod is going to be our next offensive coordinator when/if Bobby Slowik earns an opportunity as a Head Coach. His relationship with CJ dates back to the elite 11, and the chemistry between them is elite. I think that Jerrod, if he earns the offensive coordinator role, will evolve CJ into an offensive system in himself where the offensive coordinator will no longer matter as much.

@@answeris4217 Yes ! People think the whole team ,coaches, etc. would have to all be in on it….nope….just one or two compromised referees would do the trick… Games are usuallyclose in the 4th quarter . Depending on the outcome they need , it’s just a matter of either ignoring a blatant penalty or throwing a flag when no foul was committed , thus negating the play and taking away any yardage that was gained, loss of down and/or negating points if the play resulted in a score. If the desired result is to just keep the game close enough to cover the point spread,it’s even easier….these horrible calls and egregious penalties are happening so often now that the announcers are even baffled many times There’s no way ,with the huge sums of money changing hands that shenanigans …..won’t take place..and now , after years of appearing to stay away from betting and Vegas, the NFL has now actually placed a team IN Vegas !!!…not to mention the affiliations with all of the online betting apps, etc…. So,as they say….you don’t need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. The only people that still believe that these games are 100% legit are the same people that still swear that the WWE ‘s wrestling matches are real !!! lmao!

First off, love the show and I subbed. That being said, Purdy getting slept on after these last 3 games. The pendulum has swung way too far in the other direction on the Purdy narrative. We all know he has thrown some bad INT's the past 3 games, but he also balled out in those games too and the Niners wouldn't have been in those game without him. He still hasn't played a full season yet! Purdy throws with excellent anticipation, he gets through his reads, is way more athletic than people give him credit for and he has some serious wiggle.

Purdy is a great example of people wanting to know the _narrative surrounding him_ more than facts. This one thing drives me nuts regarding sports fans. "We can't figure out for ourselves what to think but we can't stand not *knowing"* when if you think about it, it isn't knowing. Narratives are *followed.* They don't need to be correct to be followed. Lamar is an overrated RB." Fields can't read defenses." Am I the only one who noticed that when Bellichick reprimanded Mac Jones for seeking help outside of Matt Patricia & also said he's their QB of the future. despite Zappe being the better QB (at that moment) people both stopped criticizing Jones _AND_ Matt Patricia? Once Bill set the narrative it was followed. I mean ending the talk surrounding Matt Patricia; Did Hitler have such mindless followers?

That part of about not having a vet in the room is what hurts the Packers. They don't have a vet for the WRs, they don't have a vet for the TEs, they don't have a vet for the QB. Which also leads into Dan saying coaching has been lazy. Matt has been calling some bad offense. A lot of it is conservative, inconsistent, and basic. We saw Aaron Rodgers say last year that bc of there being so many rookies, Matt according to Rodgers, simplified the playbook. Noticeably the Packers offense looks solid when the playbook is opened and expanded but not when Matt is clearly hand holding the young players.

Burrow is certainly a good pre snap problem solver, but I think he gets too much love for it. Their offense is so explosive that they get so much soft Zone coverage. Maybe it's because I'm a Ravens fan but you can still trip Burrow up with disguises. Teams just don't do it to him alot. Their offense relies heavily on horizontal stretch zone beaters. Putting a 2nd level defender in conflict. I'm not saying it's easy at all, but Burrow just reads the conflict defender and he can't be right. Obviously he needs to know what coverage they're in so he can anticipate where the ball is going, and he's really sharp. Not taking anything away from him. He's without a doubt one of the better pre snap guys and post snap processers but Dan answered it without hesitation like it wasn't even a difficult question.. Also AJ has a bright future doing this after his playing career. He's really good

@@williamhermann6635 but yes I remember the "omg fire the coach and the line is the worst in the league" hype from 2021 despite his line having the 16th ranked pressure rate and sacks being a QB stat and also, you know, a Super Bowl run that involved scoring 19 in the divisional round and becoming the 2nd team in NFL history to that point to hold Mahomes and the Chiefs under 27 points at Arrowhead, and Joe Burrow got all the credit for that and no blame for taking a DT sack to end his season. Then the next year in 2022, Burrow plays slightly worse than in 2021, yet the media constantly preached that he was better than ever and deserved MVP votes. And he takes another DT sack to end his season. Then in 2023 he plays with his unhealed calf injury, is objectively worse than every other QB even Zach Wilson for over a month, definitely worse than Browning played vs the Ravens, but people just let it slide cuz oh he's a competitor, like it's the Super Bowl and not week 1. Burrow is an absolute golden boy, nothing ridiculous about it, he is the inheritor to Brady in terms of unearned prestige. Joe Burrow is the most frightening thing ive ever seen play football. i never got to see Lawrence Taylor play, i saw some college film of him for reference, won't ever meet prime Lawrence Taylor in person, people claim he was frightening, i don't care what any historian says Joe Burrow is scarier than he could ever be. an entire team can physically restrain the most physical violent defender, an entire defense is helpless against joe burrow. He's mamba mentality incarnate, he's the most detached flatline player that may have ever existed it's just as bad but its almost worse than tom brady because tom brady is emotional about it, tom is fire passion, joe is just cerebral and truly cold. it's a gift that makes him a nightmare for NFL players. he's the one guy who i will know within the 1st drive if i even have a shot of beating him today. There's a Switch, and whenever he flips it, he gets inhuman. he becomes unstoppable he's the terminator, he's actually literally the human terminator. it's wild.

@@frankl3518yet with the worst line in football one year they go to the Super Bowl and had he had 2 seconds to throw on his last throw he hits Chase for the W. Suspect line last year and was a boneheaded hit out of bounce from OT back to back seasons in the AFC Championship Game. @user-tg6tg2kv6c First, I gave Burrow credit. He's a top 5 QB. He's just not unstoppable and all the things said. He's really good, he was close to a SB, but the defense was just as responsible for getting them there. The line hasn't been great. There's no doubt. But the WRs are. Mixon was playing like a top 12 RB. The league 100% respects Burrow. He's universally recognized as a top 5 QB. But they don't fear him like that. Be real.

@user-tg6tg2kv6c I could argue the defense got them to the SB. Obviously no position is more important than QB. They don't get there without Burrow. But they also didn't get there on the backs of their offense. Game ending INT in the Wild Card round. Titans game. The game was tied 16-16. The Titans are a first down or 2 from trying the game winning FG. Another huge INT from the defense.. KC game, the offense did its job. But the defense gave up only 3 points in the 2nd half and another huge INT in Overtime gets them that win..
