Yea and they got the character all wrong. Akasha in the book is not overly sexualized. She was one of the first Vampires but more importantly she was a Queen and that is how she acted. In the film she was protrayed more like a slut then like a Queen. Queen of the Damned is my second favorite book next to the The Vampire Lestat. I didn't even make it 20 min in to the film before I walked out it was so bad. They didn't even try to stick to the books or get any of the characters right.

Nothing wrong with being sexual, Aaliyah's Akasha is stunning and powerful. I don't care that it wasn't 100% faithful to the book, I love that movie. There is no rule which says a movie has to be 100% faithful to it's source material. @@deaddudegaming

She just exudes power, an unfathomable depth of charisma and power. You would think every young vampire in the bar would have practically collapsed just from her presence. Not to mention her outfit just screams royalty and authority in any time period. Its not everyday a 6000+ year old original vampire shows up. They all would have been on their knees. Also I have to say that Aaliyah was absolutely beautiful, she was perfect for that role! Too bad her life was cut short.
@claireeyles7560 Жыл бұрын
I remember when her casting for the movie was first announced, a lot of people were not happy about it. More than a few people had the attitude of, "WTF? Why are they putting some Rnb/pop star in the role of Akasha, that's never gonna work" (paraphrased). And then this scene happened and a lot of those same people immediately went, "Goddamn, this scene is awesome, she has nailed this character, she's the best part of the entire movie." So basically she walked into this bar and shut everyone up. It was awesome to see when it first came out, especially considering without Aliyah as Akasha this movie probably would've bombed completely & not become the cult classic it eventually did.

There were so many deaths of people involved in dark side productions. Angel Heart was another ingenious movie, that came so close to the real thing, that it became also dangerous to quite some people.

The main problem with this is that unlike nowadays, where they take a big book, such as "Dune", and split it into two movies, they went in the opposite direction and blended "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" into one movie, with many of the scenes that would have provided better continuity ending up on the cutting room floor. And the part I didn't like is how they changed Lestat's origin story. Perhaps AMC will correct these errors, since they seemed to have done well with their revise "Interview with the Vampire" series.
@jamesmaybrick20016 ай бұрын
@@martykarr7058 I love the book/s, but QotD is more series of short stories vaguely connected than a single narative, at least as as far as filming it goes. The film did the best it could with that. I really didn’t care for this movie. But Jesus this scene was immaculate. The atmosphere, the build up and of course Aaliyah enchanting and disturbing performance makes this scene damn near perfect

I don't know what the heck happened with movie making nowadays, but I'm glad we can look back and watch these movies from back in the day. I miss Aaliyah she was definitely one of a kind and her star was rising both in music and in film.

This movie will always be one of my favorites. The sound track, the vampires, Aaliyah. It was my baby bat intro to the goth subculture.
