08.19.18 Hello everyone! I just wanted to post a comment on here to let everyone know that I have been reading your comments and I am taking in all of the great feedback! You have all been so amazing and I am so happy that you are here watching The Rachel Review. I just wanted to take the time to address a few points on this video: 1) I published this video over two months ago and my channel was at less than 1,000 subscribers. I was speaking to *my audience at the time*, mostly American women. The video has since gone viral and people from all over the globe are comment on it and critiquing it. I have heard your comments and will add in the changes to my *NEW* videos 2) ON MY TALKING TOO MUCH: Again, I am working on cutting down my videos to make them easier to digest. I do talk a lot, but it is because I care and want my audience to have the complete picture of what I am thinking. 3) ON POLYESTER: Everyone has had (or still has) something polyester in their wardrobe. I get it, I truly do. BUT, *I stand by what I said* when I say that polyester does not last the test of time. If you don't like my view on this, feel free to NOT watch my channel :) 4) ON THE VISUALS: I published this video two months ago and have since learned that you all need more visuals! Thank you for informing me, I will certainly add many more visuals to my future videos! Thank you everyone for watching, subscribing, sharing and commenting - I look forward to creating many more videos for you here on The Rachel Review. Xo, R.

1. No polyester (plastics) 2. Base Neutrals always stay in sytle, pair well and are versatile, tie in with quality fabrics ofcotton, wool, linen, cashmere. 3. Know which colors look good on you. 4. Match all of your hardware. Belt buckles, purse metals, shoe metal details, jewelry. Match two tone metals too 5. Less is more- accessories & prints. 6. Go-To matching sets. Get three or four. White leather, black leather set, tan combo. Bag, belt, shoe. Pair with neutral outfits for the versatility. 7. Prints and plaids = smaller is better 8. Dress for the occasion. No heels at a sports game. Fit the role. Dress the part. 9. Clothes that fit well. Find a tailor/ alteration shop. 10. Healthy clean hair skin nails. 11. Clean and classy makeup. 12. Classy behavior. Kind, respectful, etc. *13 should be High social status signals/body language. AKA Executive Presence.

I LOVE your personality, honest, real, and kind. This video was super helpful! Going to watch it again so I can take notes! And honestly as a black women I get tired of watching fashion and beauty advice videos that only cater to euro-centric beauty standards. I was worried i'd find yet another video that had tips that weren't applicable to my body shape or complexion. But your tips offered wisdom for everyone. I think EVERYONE should watch your video! Your tips were helpful and unique. Gonna watch more of your videos. Love your channel. And I especially Love how you emphasized changing the clothes for your body and not your body for you clothes! Sending this to my mom and friends!

My personal opinion is that a woman must have a high esteem of herself, a woman radiates that although she dresses not so classic. The way of walking, of speaking, a personality that conquers half the world with a smile. The world is crazy today, looking to see the outside without taking the time to see the inside of the person. We miss many opportunities to meet beautiful people.

Oh that is such a shame that your mom didn't teach you the basics. My mother was a classy, Southern lady and she was still teaching me up to the day she died. Check out Chico's fashions. They seem tailored for older women. I shop there when they have a sale. Otherwise, their stuff is quite expensive (I think so anyway). My clothes come from sales at Chico's. The sales ladies in the shop I go to are older ladies and have good fashion sense, so they are very helpful. If you've never shopped at Chico's, go there and find your size. They are not sized like other stores. It's like a regular size 10 is a 2, a 12 is a 3....or something like that.

This would be a great video for young ladies getting ready to enter the work world. I would think (or hope) that most women who weren't "born yesterday" have already learned all this. The only thing that I'd disagree with is about prints. I say avoid them except for scarves or an occational "wow" garment...but almost never small prints as they tend to look to homespun or matronly. A bold print paired with very neutral everything else can be fabulous and chic. Lots of good advice in this video.

Enjoyed your video very much. Quick comment on "getting yourself a tailor". I remember how my mother and my aunts were all their own dressmakers. They were good seamstresses. They didn't have to buy "off the rack" so their outfits always fit so well! Most of us don't know how to do that these days. And in the 70's and 80's matching BBS was frequently done. All the ladies in my family did. Oh how I wish people would take more interest in their appearance. Thank you so much.

You need a mixed fiber textile to look good in a garment. All natural materials, 100% cotton or 100% wool will loose their form and the color will fade from the first wash. Wool shrinks and cotton streches out. You can always have pure silk and linen, if you have a good deal with the dry cleaner's.

This is my first time watching your videos. My style is classic with a twist. I wear mostly pearls and silver jewelry but specially in spring and summer I wear some long maxi dresses with turbans made with a nice scarf or hats and neutrals shoes. In fall and winter mostly neutrals like black, blue browns, beige with animal prints scarf, beret or a jacket that never goes out of style. I also wear my hair much longer that in the spring or summer becuase of the heat. I am a 60's plus size lady and believe me I have people all the time asking me where do yo buy your clothes, shoes or accessories. I don't follow fashion. I know what it looks good on me. Also a good fragrance is so important just like Chanel said even if you go to the grocery store. I have never wore, tennis shoes, leggings, or too tight clothes even when I was young and i could do it.

Rachel, Everything you said is so very true. I’m 72 and I was raised with these rules of dress plus white and linen were worn between Easter and Labor Day. During this time was the only time patent shoes were worn. We had a winter white. The only exception for white white was New Year’s Eve with metallic shoes and purse, usually satin, lace, velvet. Only special fabrics. Velvet was for the winter And please don’t forget gloves when you wear a hat. Even western hats then you wore tight leather gloves. Thank you for bring back etiquette for dressing. By the way I still dress how I was taught. Now I look like a well dressed older lady. This is a practice I can’t break and don’t want to change. Enjoy dressing beautifully

I happen to really like your "lecture hall" style of instruction. It's well thought out, explained in detail, and simple to understand. Also, I find your styling tips appealing because you're not teaching people how to wear the latest fads and trends, but how to consistently dress in way that will always look classy and therefore trendy. I love this because I don't usually buy in to a lot of trends that I know are ridiculous and will fade out quickly. Thank you :)

TIP: Don't run your clothes thru the dryer.......yes, in winter, u may have to break the rule n run jeans n sweatshirts thru for a bit, but leave them barely dry or slightly damp, n air dry the rest of the way. Also, wash in cold water. Both these tips prevent so much fading, not to mention shrinking and wear n tear. Blouses, dresses, sweaters and other light weight or knit clothing are much better off washed by hand. It's not at all hard to rinse these things out in the sink as needed. If it's nice enough to wear to the office, or out to dinner, it's nice enough to wash by hand.

I agree with you so much! The dryer kills the clothes.I found to be the worst fashion mistake.I always see women wearing clothes that looks damaged by the dryer and it can really bring an outfit down unfortunately...Another mistake that looks horrible is washing white colors with darks and the clothes now looks grayish.I see that a lot!I think the base of a good style starts with how you treat your clothes like getting rid of stains, fixing a hole, removing fluff or cat/dog fur on your clothing, cleaning your shoes etc.

@@victoriahilton62 Oh, dear! I was with u all the way til u mentioned dog hair..ouch! .lol....I have 2 small dogs n it's a mess! I carry a couple lint rollers in the trunk of my car to keep at least some of it at bay.

@@staceykersting705 😉loll I know,i had a dog when i was younger so i understand the struggle...if you have a fews lint roller im sure you got your situation "under control"as much as possible.I was referring to a lady i had as a client.Im a hair dresser and now that im older i don't know why but i started being allergic to dogs unfortunately.Anyway all that to say that i was doing her hair and she had a uge whool sweater and she was covered like COVERED with dog fur.I had such a hard time doing her hair i was literally allergic to her.My nose was running,i kept sneezing,my hands and arm were itchy,my eyes were itchy.Usually a get like that if i pet a dog and he is in the same place as me for a long time.I felt so bad the lady was so nice but yeah i felt like buying her a lint roller...

When I was abroad, I was forced to start air drying because the available dryer was horrible. My clothes would be hard as a board crisp the next day and I hated it.

Almost done with this video. I agree that the visuals were not necessarily necessary. Very much appreciate your taking the time to slowly explain very simple guidelines. Ladies' styling is a challenge for me, but keep getting encouragement to learn more. This would be a good video to start with if learning ladies' styling for the very first time. Good job.

As soon as you said match the hard wares and match the bags to the shoes I subscribed because those are my 2 number one rules to getting dressed! Call me old fashion! Sorry but I just can’t get myself to wearing mismatched color bags and shoes or mismatched hardware and jewelry. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also I like to dress for the occasion!

matching shoes and bags and jewelry is not old fashioned - it's classy. Those who disagree do not know what a classy look is and should not force it on themselves.

The key word there is 'old fashioned', perhaps it is, but at one time women were taught how to dress, and behave appropriately or classy. Their lives and sometimes their families lives depended on a lady marrying well. All that got lost along the way, some of us picked up a few little hints along the way if we were lucky, so kudo's to whoever taught you to be 'old fashioned'!

I do wear a few items with large floral prints...it can work if everything else you are wearing is toned down....very minimal accessories if any! Also, if you go with high end brands of "polyester" fabrics it can cross over as dance wear and it doesn't show sweat. Most of all, being classy is living clean with integrity.

I agree with the last one. You need to have classy behaviour, but I will still put myself first. I was putting others first for the first half of my life and I will fight with every fiber to not do that anymore for the rest of my days. Me first, then others❤ Best and be classy.

Thank you for the great video! After you said "no polyester" I emptied my wardrobe and got rid of most of the stuff from it. But it was worth it. Polyester isn't just inelegant, it's also harmful for the skin.

I have always loved cotton, cashmere, leather but I do think a splash of colour against neutral palette. Know your colours too - orange and blue look great providing one dominates, e.g navy blue (a neutral) with a splash of orange - match that with a statement piece in rose gold or copper hardware or simple, under stated jewellery. Thanks for the advice though
