Honoured to present Harinder Singh on the show today. He serves as the Senior Fellow, Research & Policy at the Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI). He is a widely respected educator, activist, author, and thinker. His current focus is on developing critical thinking for Sikh institutions via the State of the Panth report series and developing open-source decoding of Guru Granth Sahib in contemporary Panjabi and English for a global audience.
He has also authored Emperor-Prophet: Guru Gobind Singh Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib: Its Language & Grammar, and Sikhi: Faith & Followers. Harinder Singh holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering, MS in Engineering Management, MPhil in Guru Granth Sahib, and a Diploma in the Persian Language. He currently resides in the United States with his family.
In this episode, we cover the history of Sikhism and its basic principles. They also discuss the importance of meditation and the need to understand the native terms of Sikhi like Sicky and Saki.

I went to Lahore, Pakistan recently for business meetings. I’ve seen a lot of Sikhs run businesses, selling food and clothes down on the streets. It’s a wonderful feeling where you have Muslims and Sikhs living together. Also ranveer is right, the generation of Pakistan today is waking up to the BS that the army is trying to portray to its citizens.

Hindoos (who basically are Khatri) are living alongside Pashtuns and Baloch people's in northern and Western Pakistan . Despite having religious as well as racial and Ethnic differences they too are well respected among both these communities !

Punjabs story is different for this u have to go into our history ..Father of Punjabi was BABA farid a sufi saint in 1100 A.D and laters baba bulleh shah,Waris shah,Sultan bao,Mian Mohammad Baksh ..heer ranjha,mirza sahiba sohni mahiwal ..even the legendry fighter dulla bhatti aka Abdullah bhatti who challenged Akbar n alot more even Ranjit singh was called give throne of Lahore by Fakeer family of Lahore till date exists ..muslim Punjabis r 90% of Punjabs culture but with all respect to sikh brothers when britis left they were offered their share of Punjab what they have today as the princely state in Pakistan but Master Tara singh had different plans

Hindu population in Pak went from 25% in 1947 to less than 2% today and it continues to fall. The question should be about how Pakistan feels about Hindus, which are the Indian civilization. The school books in Pakistan teach extreme hatred towards Hindus. Abduction, rape and forced conversions are way of life for Hindus of Sindh, where the majority resides.

biggest population of hindus at the time of partition was located in East Pakistan now Bangladesh. in west Pakistan or today's Pakistan, it never been more than 3 or 4%.

Yes Muslims were cleansed from East Punjab where they were 35% while Hindu and Sikhs were cleansed from West Punjab, where they were reduced from 30% to 1%. Looking at what this gentleman was saying, neither east Punjabis (whom we call Charda Punjab) nor the west Punjabi (Lehda Punjab) feel proud on this. There were very few hindus in Baluchistan and KPK. While very few hindus left from Sindh. So you need to understand most of the population is Punjab and if some migrated from Punjab in Pakistan it created big impact as % on Pakistan as a whole. While Indian Punjab is a fraction of India so there is no impact of Ethinic cleansing on Indian side. Books used to teach that in Zia times, things have changed. Even during zia time my school did not taught the local history books. So yes there was hatred in our books during zia time and there might still be today but people are cognizant of that fact. Force conversations happens, but law also takes its path. You can challenge that, lots a NGOs owned by Muslims are working for that cause. But of course we have our fair share of asshole, while you have your own. Frankly, I can not defend the forced conversion in the same way you can not defend the ghar wapsi and beating up muslims in the name of love jihad. One thing he said about Pakistan is 100% right, i.e. we are a security state struggling to be democratic. I can not comment about the Indian part. You tell me

Being Pakistani, I feel he is a bit exaggerating on the fact that Pakistan is struggling to get out of being a security state. On what he said about Hindus being wealthy, I'd say that in my life I've seen Hindus who are either financially giant or Hindus who struggle to make ends meet. Hindus have a businesses in Pakistan which very few know. I have access to this information because of the nature of my profession. I've come across various Hindus from being my bosses, colleagues and subordinates. They always work hard for a better future and this is what I admire about them. Having said that, Pakistan is no where close to being the ideal country for minorities and needs radical measures to make it one.

Not sure what this guy is smoking saying India is turning into a security state? Not a single coup [or even an attempt at a coup] in India since it's existence. It's funny how he says there's lakh's of Hindu's with so much pride. Pakistan was at least 10% Hindu when partition happened and there's only "lakh's" left out of 231 million people. In comparison, India has over 200 million muslims out of 1.4 billion people.

I too am deeply disappointed with Ranveer for bringing an individual who lacks factual knowledge as his guest. As a host, Ranveer should have defended his country and corrected the misinformation instead of passively listening to it. I never thought Ranveer, would take the concept of 'Atithi Devo Bhava,' to this extent. While adithi devo bhava is an important aspect of Indian culture, it should never be taken to the extent of allowing false information to be spread. India, or Bharat as we call it, is not losing its democracy, nor is it on the path to becoming a security state. The guest's views are not reflective of the reality, and I believe Guru Nanak Ji, who taught us to seek truth, would not be proud of such behavior. It's unfortunate that he failed to understand the true essence of Guru Nanak Ji's teachings. However, we must remember that karma is always at play, and anyone with ill intentions will eventually face the consequences.

That is actually true. There are quite a few Hindu businessmen in Karachi. My neighbour (wealthy trader) is Hindu and our favourite convenience stores are Hindu owned and run. The community is 4.5 million strong in Pakistan. In Karachi we see Hindus all the time working in offices..Hindus are a fair minority in Sindh. Urban Sindhi Hindus are more likely to be educated and gainfully employed than your average guy. I have only seen one Pakistani Sikh in my life. I see Hindus all the time. Commenting from Karachi.

I agree and he is being so condescending about it. I understand there are issues of fundamentalism in India, arguably more so, under the current government but which country doesn’t. Every democratic country have diverse domestic issues like racism, violation of rights, etc. He is not even read enough to know that just like any other western democratic country, India is bound by a Constitution which is safeguarded by Judiciary. @@bhaskarganguly7 There were less than 2% of Hindus in West Pakistan (now Pakistan) as per the 1951 census and the current percentage of Hindus in Pakistan as per 2017 census is 2.17%. So the number of Hindus in Pakistan has actually increased, not decreased.

Let me say about Hindu community in Pakistan, i have worked with a Hindu from Pakistan, what he said was it is different than what he said in Podcast. Some Hindus who were wealthy from generations they are in good positions. But most of the backward class Hindus in Pakistan are either dead or converted. Relatively Hindus are more in Sindhi as community is also strong there. It is known truth even for non hindus in pakistan. I dont know why he saying partial truth about these things. Literally my colleague Hindu from pakistan is trying his best to move out the Pakistan with his family.

He is just wise enough to understand that if a country has some black sheeps in it that does not mean every person of that country is a black sheep. The world has seen a negative image of Pakistan because of terrorism but to add to your knowledge the innocent Pakistani people have fought a long and painful battle against terrorism and have suffered most because of it. Pakistan itself has been affected the most because of those black sheeps. If terrorism has happened here or from here by certain groups, that does not mean every kid here is a terrorist. But again, you have to be wise enough to understand this.

Whatever he said might not be all true but what I've experienced with talking to Pakistani's in America is that despite the religious differences they watch a lot bollywood even some tollywood, they love India in the sense of culture probably not political, Pakistani's have always been nice to me even though I'm Indian.

The only minorities I have seen in Pakistan - I live here -- that have rich people in it are Sindhi Hindus and Parsis. At one point Pakistans acting chief justice of the SC was Rana Bhagwandas. I always think your fate in the subcontinent depends more upon whether you are rich or poor than what religion you are. Ghareeb aadmi from a minority is the most vulnerable. Ameer admi from a minority usually has a better life than the average person from the majority. Class is more of a deciding factor in Pakistan and perhaps in India too.

The man here is pro khalistani.. I can understand the pain he gone in his childhood, but extreme religious sentiments make PPL enemy of other community. If Indira Gandhi was wrong then Bhinderawale is also wrong.. i understand about religious faith.. same goes to hindu and muslim too.. every community in India somehow went to disastrous situation in the name of religion. Hatred can only make PPL revengeful.. hence, pat should be passed and PPL of India should be tolerant towards other community and work together for the development of our country. Diversity of India is the uniqueness of India and it should be the strength of our country. No partition can be the solution of any problems. If certain PPL are pro khalistani, then let them make a party and win the election and do reforms at state level.. find opportunities in problems..

Being a Pakistani, I second what Sardar Sahib is saying. I have visited India and found people of India mostly youth want to see friendly relationship with Pakistan but problem is both sides governments are not in favour. It is true hindu community here in Pakistan are well educated and well placed even in government. So we both nuclear powers need to settle political issues including Kashmir issue and peace is only way forward.

I have met educated Pakistanis in west, and they totally agree of pak is run by army and is in a mess. They do like Indian stuff (movie, food, medicine, etc) The life of Sikh in pak is precarious, what they say can be deadly for them ..they are not safe outside of punjab. They have to blend in. Most Khalistani in west propagate such narratives for money, support and protect their relatives back in Pakistan Hope Indian authorities take note of this.
