The Therapeutic Clown Program employs professional performers trained to engage children of all ages who have a range of abilities and communication styles. Using music, rhythm, slapstick, movement and physical comedy, these clown artists offer a unique service to the staff, clients and their families three days a week. They can be paged or scheduled to be present during a medical procedure or as an aid during physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions. Parents and staff often request the clowns to help meet a variety of psychosocial needs of the children on the units. They have collaborated with the research team here and are an evidence-based practice.
