There are A LOT of medical supplies to know in healthcare. Some have strange names, so these are a few you should learn!
✅Christmas tree connector 👉Also called a nut & stem adapter, it helps the O2 tubing connect properly to the oxygen source.
✅Tegaderm Film 👉Clear, occlusive dressing used to secure IVs, wound dressings, incision sites, etc.
✅Lancets 👉Small, plastic-encased needles for fingerstick glucose checks/capillary blood tests.
✅Tourniquet 👉Elastic band used for IV insertion and blood draws (venipuncture) to constrict circulation for a short time. A tourniquet helps to bring blood to the area and “plump” the veins! ALWAYS remember to remove after blood draw or insertion of IV!
✅Chux Pads 👉You will see & use these ALL the time. Chux pads are usually thin disposable, absorbent pads with a green or blue border. You’ll place these beneath patients, beneath their arms during blood draws, IV sticks, beneath an area for irrigation or dressing changes. Just know they are useful for just about anything! What are other weird medical supply names?

A message from Kristine, founder of NurseInTheMaking📣
My name is Kristine and I survived nursing school…and you can too!
Nurse In The Making was inspired during my time in nursing school. I immediately struggled and decided to create my own study guides. These guides have helped me personally as well as many others make nursing school just a little more manageable.I hope you find comfort knowing that everyone struggles at times. Nursing school is emotionally and physically draining. I hope these informative, clean, and simple guides help you navigate through all the information because there is A LOT of it in nursing school.
Happy Studying Future Nurses. Don't forget to enjoy the journey!
