In his first public appearance since officially announcing his departure from the sport of MMA, Zabit Magomedsharipov mentioned that there were several reasons for his retirement.
The ex-UFC fighter with a 18-1 record, including an undefeated 6-0 record in the UFC, highlighted difficulties in confirming fights with potential opponents, injuries, illness, and a sense of distrust with the UFC as the primary reasons for his early retirement.
At only 31 years of age, Zabit is widely considered to be one of the world's best fighters in the Featherweight division.
He however has not fought since 2019 which raised a lot of questions from MMA fans about his absence.
Zabit's appearance at the "Challenges in Sport - The Path to Great Victories" event in Izverbash, Dagestan, Russia is his first time publicly answering some of these questions about his absence and his recent retirement.
The event, which was sponsored by the MMA Union of Russia, allowed young people a chance to speak directly with high-achieving martial artists.
Zabit was joined by Bellator MMA fighter Magomed Magomedov and Olympic Bronze Medalist Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov who both also hail from Dagestan, Russia.
What do you think?
Do any of Zabit's answers surprise you?
Will we ever see the talented fighter compete again?
