The picture you saw at the end after going through the pipe was a pepper. The level's name was Stuffed Poblano. Neat!

because in mm1 the timer actually ends 1 second later, it counts the zero as a full second

@@valentdsIt's actually the reverse... In SMM1, a 20s timer stays on 20 for a full second, but you die as soon as you hit 0. While in SMM2, a 20s timer ticks down to 19 as soon as the level begins, but you can spend a full second at 0 before you die. In both games, though, you still only have 20 seconds between level start and time out. SMM1, though, your official time could vary by a couple milliseconds either way due to timing nonsense... the game runs at 60fps, so only differences of around 17ms are real... differences of a couple ms are just timing jank.

Yeah, somehow Ryu tunnel vision on waiting/jumping after waiting. When it was pretty easy to just jump over it while it's coming out

Ryu does that sometimes, missing the simple solution because he's focused on the hard way. He also tends towards "wait" solutions rather than "go right away".

Same here. Pretty sure it's a cakewalk once you know the muncher is coming. Oh well, it's not quite on the level of some of the cheesing he's not where there's a very easy cheese solution and he instead goes for one that's 10x harder and loses a ton of lives while going for it. He also doesn't seem to remember some of the specific Mario Maker 2 differences anymore. Like how releasing a shell enemy doesn't reset the counter of him spawning and not being able to enter half-blocked pipes (was noticeable in a previous video).

Usually when you get to the last frame and beat the level you just die even touching the flag, hence why the highest possible timers are usually something .983. Some tricks like corner jumps however alter Mario's subpixel position in a way to circumvent that rule and allow you to finish on that last frame. Within that last frame, ending at a round .000 timer is the latest possible in MM2. In MM1 it's a .001 of the next second (!) since in that game the timer actually starts counting at down from .999 instead of a .000.

It's milli, micro, nano, pico, femto, ..., in this order. Every prefix counts for an extra thousandth. 1 millisecond is 1/1000 seconds, 1 microsecond is 1/1000 milliseconds or 1/1,000,000 seconds etc. Same with kilo, mega, giga, tera, peta, ..., the other way around. 1 kilo[unit] is 1000 [unit], 1 mega[unit] is 1000 kilo[unit] or 1,000,000 [unit] etc. So at 10:00 it's "to the millisecond", the more you know! :)
