Fun fact: Madrid is already shooting 3s at NBA level. Adjusting for 48 minutes they would be 18th (out of 30) in the NBA in 3s taken per game. They shoot more threes than Denver, Orlando, Minnesota, LA Lakers, teams that are doing very well (the other way around, Orlando and LA Lakers would be right in the middle in euroleague if adjusted for 40 minutes). The question now is, does this make them boring in your view ;)

If Real Madrid played in the NBA they would have a much bigger budget and could incorporate some NBA stars, like former player Luka Doncic. This already excellent team with the additions that they could afford would certainly be able to keep on winning in the NBA.
@paulryon82787 ай бұрын
But that changes the premises entirely. That's like saying would an NBA team be able to beat other NBA teams? The question is can Euro teams beat NBA teams?
@omenow7 ай бұрын
@@paulryon8278 If the premise is to know if Madrid can play in the NBA with a budget that would not pay the salary of an NBA star, that same premise is absurd, since the moment you play in the NBA you have much more media impact , marketing and revenue. Therefore, proposing that Real Madrid play in the NBA but without accepting the income does not stand. Of course the top European teams can eventually defeat NBA teams in some games. Real Madrid recently defeated the Dallas Mavericks, and has defeated other NBA teams before that. But throughout an entire championship obviously NBA teams are clearly better, mainly because they have exponentially larger budgets. If Real Madrid played in the NBA, something that has already been considered in a hypothetical European division, it would have a much larger budget and that would completely change the movie. It is absurd to try to equate competitions that are in different budget galaxies.

Some players can adapt but most that lack the foot speed can’t. And they end up being turnstiles on defense because their help is too far compared to when they play under FIBA circumstances. The court size most of all hides a lot of deficiencies. That’s why Micic is having trouble getting playing time with the Thunder and looks like he regrets the move. Players like Rokas, Yam Madar, Juan Nunez, etc who are very talented offensively will ever make the move to the nba because of their lack of foot speed and side to side agility.. I think Real Madrid in the NBA would get a high draft pick. The more interesting "possibility" is how would the nba compete against RM with Euro-Rules. Like no three in the key, stricter travel calls etc. I guess RM could be a playoff team this way
@fredericfondras30107 ай бұрын
Spot on analysis. Madrid's offense is complex and well executed and would survive in the NBA. However, they would get killed on the other side. Tavares is too slow to follow NBA wings. Campazzo was the worst defender in the NBA because of his size. Hezonja was terrible too. I think they could beat a few NBA teams but with FIBA rules. They are a 15-20 wins team in the current NBA.

What I know is that I enjoy watching European basketball much more than the NBA. In fact, if it weren't for following Dondic, I wouldn't even watch a game! By the way, Dondic was a player who grew up at Real Madrid

Despite having high-quality players, Real Madrid's strength is its team play. Perfectly oiled. I think they would do a worthy role in the NBA.

I haven't watched any euro league games but I'd be curious if they are playing basketball as opposed to what the NBA is doing which is closer to Hollywood, producing narrative and backstory for getting overstimulated people emotionally invested in what LeBron is doing. Can you even believe that when LeBron came into the league he was very young and now he is much older?! But for real, I think Real Madrid could maybe make the playoffs just because they seem to have a scheme besides shoot 45 threes but I don't think they could beat a top 4 team in a seven game series. In a single elimination series they could definitely catch teams off guard and make a run, especially if the NBA team lives and dies by the three. Curious if you've ever watched Princeton or Bellarmine in the NCAA and if that play style is at all similar to Real Madrid 🤔

Let's turn it around. There's no team in the world today that plays 'system basketball' like Real does. With FIBA-rules lot's of NBA teams would be bested by Madrid. Athleticism and iso-plays only get you so far. Only the very best would be able to overcome these limitations. That's one of the reasons why USA and Canada both were unable to reach the final in the World Cup this year. Put Madrid in the NBA though and they would not be a playoff team.

They would definitely beat the best college team by 10 at least, and I mean any NCAA/nil champion from any year, they'd probably be a bubble 7 or 8 seed In the NBA but their defense I think would need to adapt due to the ok physicality and size of the NBA players, any athletic 2 or 3 or a big point forward with athleticism that handles the ball well would be a problem for this team and the NBA is full of 6'9 ball handlers

if we merge it with FIBA court and NBA rules - Real will certainly be better than the bottom teams - Blazers,Wizards,Spurs, Pistons or even Jazz. I think they wont be a playoff team but for sure wont be at the bottom. They will fare quite well under such circumstances. They look 1 step ahead in all competitions this year.

This "Euro teams are just as good as NBA teams" propaganda has to stop. Like bruh, imagine how annoying and obnoxious it would be if an MLS fan from America was trying to convince you Inter Miami or the LA Galaxy were better than Real Madrid.
@PersonaPrime7 ай бұрын
In a best of 5, no, they don't beat any NBA team. Sure, they could steal some games from the bottom teams, but that's about it. They have the highest budget out of all Euroleague teams. Olympiacos with less than half Real's budget and with missing players was very close to beating them. Real Madrid is a very good team, but let's be honest. If they had half their current budget, they wouldn't even be a top 5 team in the Euroleague.
@onlydbrasko7 ай бұрын
Exactly.
@AugustasSuliauskas7 ай бұрын
You can't take 1 game as an example when they also played an away game. While also would Olympiacos do better if they had a higher budget? It's a tricky hypothetical game here. But facts right now are clear: they are dominating EL while playing beautiful basketball.
@PersonaPrime7 ай бұрын
@@AugustasSuliauskas And you can't disregard the budget difference either. Somehow the best team in the Euroleague is the team with the highest budget? That is not a coincidence. When Real has more than double, in some cases even triple the budget of other teams, of course they will have a much higher chance to dominate. It's a no-brainer. I am not saying having the highest budget is the only reason they are dominating, but it's a fact that having a 35m+ budget, when most teams are barely reaching 15-20m, is one of the reasons they are the best team in the Euroleague.
