That’s something I’ve seen on the Spiderman ps4 subreddit, people at first were disappointed because the main story wasn’t always well written and the game was way shorter because they were saving way too much content for future dlc and games. But over time people started making a big deal over smaller and smaller things, the other day they posted a comparison of MJ’s untextured face between games and they look almost identical, but the highest rated comments are trashing the change

SF players have it good. Go to Tekken or MK... now THAT'S doomers. The majority of the SF6 community is just vibing and enjoying a good game. Player retention is still ridiculously high, streaming numbers are great... the people complaining are a very small vocal minority. For Tekken and MK though, it's literally WW3 lmao. SF6 season 1 is an amazing game. It's not perfect, but it's insanely fun. Capcom did an amazing job and it shows.

SF6 season 1 is genuinely the cleanest launch I've ever seen for a fighting game, very well balanced and solid mechanics If there's anything to even be worried about it's that balance changes, new characters and new mechanics might upset how good we have it now, which is still a pretty doomer take
@actuallynotsteve

It brought in so many former casuals like me as well, like millions of people who probably wouldn't have played a Street Fighter got hooked. It came out day 1 with good balance, good net code, and a whole ass RPG mode that's secretly a tutorial for the game. It's wild that anybody hates on it, TBH.

i totally agree. i think SF6 has its problems but compared to most season 1 vanilla fighting games they did pretty good, gives me a lot of hope for the future of the game. i just don't want the devs to get complacent and let the problems persist, its a good game but they still should try to iron out any issues and make the game better.
@GeoGyf

Honestly SF6 tier list doesnt impress me. You can easily see this imbalance with the tournament picks. Also almost all top-tier players that play low tier characters dont go to many tournaments in order to protect their secrets. At least a good thing that Capcom does is having few patches & not disrupting the game a lot. But there are a lot of characters that need buffs/nerfs in order to be fair/competitive for the 1 mil prize. SF6 is heard because its other competitors have made fumbles, not because SF6 is doing something.
@kevin76165
@kevin76165 Ай бұрын
@@GeoGyf I feel like you overestimate how much a games tier list actually affects people’s enjoyment of fgs. if a game doesn’t have broken top tiers nor absolutely horrible bottom tiers, it’s basically as balanced as it needs to be. There is no such thing as a truly balanced game, people will always disagree and misuse characters. Hell, like half of melee players just play either of the spacies and still regard it as a masterpiece. sf6 has legacy, quality graphics, fluid and responsive gameplay, a young lifespan, returning characters as DLC, and just a lot of care from capcom in general-there’s no wonder why it’s doing well
@GeoGyf
@GeoGyf Ай бұрын
@@kevin76165 Well SF6 is definitely not that, since there are picks that are overrepresented in tournaments & most importantly, picks that are straight up not played. And even the masters of these particular picks struggle or have to resort to limited tourney appearances in order to hide their playstyle. So no SF6 fails in that regard.

Honestly I think more people should take a stab at making their own game, even if it's just a tabletop sim or card based version. Designing and balancing Is really hard especially in FGs. Devs aren't perfect, which is why we should be vocal about what does and doesn't work, but doomers acting like they know better should step up and prove it imo

I think the issue people are having is the game's are already made so slight adjustments are relatively easy to at least try out (as opposed to building an entire new game from the ground up), like increasing frames on certain things or reducing the damage of certain things but Capcom is seemingly holding off on heavy balance patches to let the game sort itself out a little and possibly waiting for season 2 to make big adjustments (which is understandable) while Tekken 8 gets patches that break the game, make it worse or just add microtransactions instead of trying to adjust people's real issues with the game, i think its totally fair for someone committed to Tekken would be upset with Tekken 8.

Something I've noticed across a lot of games as I get older - my competitive friends who no longer are as interested in just playing the games perform badly relative to how good they *think* they are, then blame the game for the negative feelings. They don't even realise that they are simply not motivated the way they used to be - and complaints about game design are the perfect pseuo-objective way to cloak essentially hurt feelings. Games are full of things that are not really "good" or "bad" design but somewhere in the middle; features that have strengths and weaknesses, that appeal to some players and piss off others. But when you're fundamentally not having a good time you just borrow a bunch of thoughts and consensus negatives from the population at large; pile all your negative feelings onto them and write the game off so your ego no longer has to bear the weight of feeling like you're not as good as you wanted to be at something that is part of your self-conception. It's kind of sad. What you say about accepting games as they are - it's necessary. That doesn't mean loving every aspect of a game, but you have to be able to play the game as is to enjoy it - full engagement requires mental commitment!

Most people will have problems analyze the things they dislike. So they just repeat talking points of other players who have done just that. Bottom line is those players (and especially your friends) understand what you dont like about SF6/T8 or w/e else & understand specifically (lets say SF6 DI) Understanding is the first step. Then you can see if this thing can be countered or if it cant, perhaps the effect can be lessened. If those things that bother you or your friends dont get adressed, eventually more grievances are going to be added making it a list. And when the list will make you or your friends will eventually quit.

I think it's that because the games themselves that change into something that the older players do not enjoy because the fundamentals are different. When a new titled game drops, you're pretty much forced to swap over. I never switched to SFV from SF4 because I just didn't like SFV, not because I wasn't good at it. The game had a lot of faults, and they were valid complaints. It's the same for mvc3. The swap from mvc3 to mvci was a complete failure because of mvci just sucked, while swapping to dbfz was a lot more natural for that playerbase and met with good reception.

I agree with like 90% of your thoughts here and I forever appreciate how thoughtful and diplomatic you make a point to be when talking about stuff like this my input is that people struggle with the BALANCE between the positive and the negative. loving a game is both celebrating its strengths, and wanting better in its weaknesses, and the binarism and tribalism is silly (as it is in all things); you don't have to ONLY be a hater or ONLY be a positive-vibes-no-hating-here. part of how we process and analyze media is by critiquing it and disassembling it, and I think the level of emotional reasoning that gets injected into an analytical process sabotages a lot of the heart of potentially healthy discussions that should be happening. I think that's what's missing. there's a million people who can pick a side and root for that side, and that's not a truly meaningful contribution; thinking through your shit and processing your feelings constructively and assembling those into a well rounded, nuanced worldview is the real heart of the cards

I remember discussions with fellow Star Wars fans in comic book stores when I was younger were anyone who overheard us would've thought we hated the movies because of how much shit we talked about them while we knew we all loved SW and were only critiquing it out of love. I think the online component where you have those discussions on a gigantic open forum is what messes up the balance you speak about.

I think the least people can do in these kinds of things is have self awareness of their feelings being simply feelings based on no real reasoning. It's ok to have those opinions and personal perspectives without ever actually putting deep thought into it, as long as you know that's what they are and don't shove them where they don't belong or at least communicate that is what they are. It's a common habit for people these days to present their arbitrary opinions of something in a way that is objective without ever realizing it. This goes for everyone, including me and you.

Real talk Brian, you and DemonDan, and to a lesser extent Smug, are the ones that got me interested in SFV after it's not so stellar launch. I remember you posting a short vid about G doing ridiculous damage with his idle animation and thought that was pretty cool and interesting. After watching you guys, and Capcom making updates, I said to myself, "Wow, the game is actually good now." and I felt excited to finally to go play it. You're definitely on the right path, keep at it.

6:00 I also really have to stop myself when people just say inaccurate stuff so they can complain about a fg. I'm happy you focus more on the things you like because I want to play and watch fg stuff that makes it more enjoyable because i'm doing these things for entertainment and competitive urge. So if people are just negative i'm not going to deal with that because I am here to try and have more fun not less. But its easier for me cause I'm not playing for ego, financial or anything just for my own competitive drive and mostly entertainment, the joy of working on a 'skill' and following a community that is passionate

I fully believe in capcom balancing the game well enough in the soon to come big patch for season 2. A change I personally can see is drive rush and parry costing more gauge meter then they use, so its something that takes proper use instead of just throwing them out constantly hoping it hits, and if it does, you almost never hit burnout by the time the opponent is at 25% hp

It’s funny to see the comparison of how Brian says he’s not sure whether or not his criticism makes any actual impact on the direction the game goes. And on the riot games side of things, the lead of the balancing team admitted on stream that one champ was disgustingly broken currently but they won’t nerf it because not enough people are complaining. Playing league is a real love/hate relationship

Idk, it's genuinely hard for me to complain about SF6. The stuff that's wrong with it is like, crossing the t's dotting the i's stuff. The game, overall, taking all its systems and characters into account, is RIDICULOUSLY well-designed, so much so that I'm really hoping we see a trend of more fighting games that take inspiration from what SF6 has done. And the complaints I have about the game, to me, are really obviously my opinion and not objective facts about the game. It's hard for me to take a lot of the discourse seriously for that reason. The monetization is the only area where I would say capcom genuinely fucked up, and even there I have to make the caveat that it's still one of the least-bad video games, but I just don't think monetization bullshit should be tolerated at all. Fighter coins are stupid. Battle passes suck, all of them, SF6 may be the least bad (can complete it in 1 day, pays back the coins, too worthless to encourage addiction) but it sucks that it's there at all. Lastly, fighter coins are stupid. But overall, the characters are powerful, the characters look cool, they're surprisingly balanced, visually the game has both flash and clarity to it, the systems are extremely elegant, great pacing in the match, they made so many good decisions that it's hard to complain without immediately going "that said, game is still good".

The issue with negativity is that it's too easy, so people get addicted to it because it's also fun and makes them feel smart. Positivity builds communities and eventually attracts skilled people that will create further projects. Don't get me started on people that feel the compulsion to control communities or even ruin them just because they can, it's like an evolved form of negativity.

Played my first offline tornament on SF6 last weekend. With was a blast! Got into top 16 and I got bodied by a professional player =D Started following this channel around season 5 of SFV and since then I kept playing, now people are inviting for locals just for fun. I am also from Brazil and I can tell that people here are really downplaying SF6, and I believe this is something to do with our culture with sports(and e-sports). From my point of view, Brazilians dont enjoy sports, they enjoy winning. If they dont win, then there is something wrong with the game. Brazilian footbal team has been a reason of national pride for decades, but it failed to adapt to the new era, and also, players are more loyal to money than to their teams at this point. For this reason, the love overwhelming national pride on footbal is not as it was back in the 90s. Forgot to mention, I am from Brazil. The city I live has locals almost every week, and even now and then you see the doomers hanging around...

The mechanics are fine, and I agree it takes some time to get used to it. There will always be cheaters, those that script walk and magically beat you with impeccable playing skills, but now I only attempt to try and understand how to beat these types of players. And they get soooooooooo mad, when you do. A script player is a scripted pattern, so it's just a matter of figuring out their scripts. I complained about a breaking maneuver block to get out of endless drive rushing attacks and more parries. As far as changing up players, I haven't found a solid one for myself besides Ryu. I'm only keen on Ryu, maybe Zangief. I like the other characters, but I do not like trying to perfect them. If I see Sagat or another interesting straight up martial arts style kickboxing, that'll be my go to next style player. I may try guile because he's classic, and it's good to try different styles other than predictable pattern players that aren't very fun to play or watch. I first wanted to go all in on Dhalsim, but I felt uninterested to go the distance. Maybe I'm just an old school SF player liking my basic go to characters.

SF6 a dead game? Man, I'm trying to play Under Night 2, a new game where it can be 6pm EST on a Friday night, and just... nobody on ranked. Zero people. Practically a Discord fighter already, then when I do get matches it's often the same person back to back. And this is with the most lenient settings so I can match against any rank lol

My only wish is that people could separate what they dislike from something that actually legitimately lowers the skill ceiling. When you have 3 or 4 people winning weeklies every single week, and then they go to an international tournament and get bopped pretty good.... There's ko skill ceiling issue. We're not watching random outcomes. It annoys me that people have such a need to 'prove' their opinions that they'll shit on anything and everything whether it makes sense or not.

I may have my gripes with Drive Rush and Parries in SF6, but the game is fun still. I don't think anything can ever be perfect (Yes, even 3rd strike, my biggest FG addiction, has issues too) but it is a VERY well balanced game. The fact I can only ask for minor adjustments to characters kits and some system mechanics instead of full overhauls really shows how well balanced the game is. I'd like it more if Grappler players were allowed to enjoy the game though. I may not like being a grappler myself, but nothing frustrates me more than a character with a barebones kit and over reliance on system mechanics to do anything

Good point on some negativity in communities, especially GameFAQs for games like SFV & Strive. Games aren't perfect, but I've been thankful to play, & enjoyed. SF6 has been great for me: the mechanics, art, World Tour, & more. But the Could Not Verify Capcom ID link error screen that bars online for those who can't get their PSN, etc. to link- for some reason, has been a first in gaming for me. Over 6 months of attempts, research, & emails to Capcom ID. A solution's the thing I want most from the patch. Even mentioned I'd gladly pay for a fix & buy stuff in BH. Good vid.

Here’s the thing. I freaking KNOW HOW TO DO A FIREBALL AND A SHORYU! Even offline I can’t seem to land consistently. I looked at different approaches, listened to people what I may be doing wrong looked at the frame data tried different controllers and I just can’t land consistently. There’s a core level of broken with this game and it needs to be fixed.. the game feels more algorithmic than me actually playing. I don’t enjoy that. Not only that but the “Parry” is not a parry. It’s a shield. I like drive impact and I really like the engagement of this game but it really feels like I’m not even playing sometimes. Winning or losing I can’t stand that
