Sheffield were the worlds first United, named after the Sheffield United Cricket club who played at Bramall Lane, oldest stadium in the world. Sheff United were also the 1st United to win the league and also the first ever United to win the FA cup.

@@barryburton7755 sheffield united cricket and football club was one club. Until 1973 the name sheffield united cc was formed in 1855. The first sports club in Britain to use that name. Hanover utd 1873 obviously took the name after sheffield united. Remember Sheffield united was formed by the cricket club and was part of the same club that was the first united. Utb
