I have NEVER explored an abandoned house like this… in the middle of the spooky moors, on a military firing range in a storm! But that’s nothing compared to what was inside! A million items lay waiting to be discovered!
Come with Matt and bear as they explore this mega old house up on the moors

The owner Jeffrey Bassett had his own bookshop, after closing the shop he sold the books online from the house, then for some reason he decided to move out and leave the books and everything else behind, he's still alive and living else where. It looks like he's doing something with the house as there wasn't any scaffolding up when I went here two years ago.

So glad you brought up KITCHENS. I've been really wishing you'd focus more on what they used to cook with, appliances, sinks, STOVES etc. The cookers of the families I think would love to see more ❤❤❤

I'm not positive because it is rather small but the thing outside with the cone shaped thing in the middle looks like it might once have been a horse/donkey gin/mill. As you were way down south at the time it could have been for pressing apples to make cider. They come in all shapes, sizes and designs because they were home made! We had the remains of one (with the shed it was in complete) outside our back door in Scotland. It was about a 20ft diameter circle but was used for grinding grain.

At 1:05:05 mark you see the white pipe (tubing) coming up, that structure is part of an old water fountain. House full of books is my dream house, but that house it looks like all those books are holding the house up in areas 😆 What a find Matt, this was really good albeit shocking find. 👍 at 31:19 the year is 1892 , take the X (10) subtract from the C (100) and add the II which is 2. Since films and printings stopped using Roman Numerals, it’s like a forgotten art-form that this generation probably would look at it like they look at a rotary phone and ask them to call someone 😂 honestly 😊. *Matt you are good at those things* you were most likely so overwhelmed by all the stuff your brain was in shock, I know mine was just looking through a screen.

I think I have seen this house before. It was a couple of years ago and I’m pretty sure Dave from Abandoned World Explorer went in to the house. Just can’t forget all those books. If it is the same house, then those books have survived well. I thought at the time what a sin and nothing changes. Another great video and great to see again.

more likely to be a book seller. I used to live a few doors down from a book shop which contained some valuable items. Problem is - people don't really buy or read books any more - not like they used to. His shop was only open by appointment - which basically was never. This looks like the stock of a book shop that went out of business. I used to work in a university library and we could not give old books away - not even abroad or to any other educational establishments - nobody wants them. We used to skip them.....by the skip load. ....heartbreaking. Timothy Spall is an actor who has done some comedy. L. Ron Hubbard founded Scientology.

All the hills where the stones are scattered are called tors. They all have names eg Sheepstor, Haytor, Burrator etc. Schoolkids do a Ten Tors challenge in the summer where they have to walk and climb ten of the tors. It's quite a gruelling challenge for them.

Most of Dartmoor consists of a single type of rock - granite. This granite was intruded during the late Carboniferous/ early Permian Period (around 280 million years ago) and formed Devon and Cornwall. Dartmoor is an amazing place. I hiked today to Wistman's Wood. It has eerie, ancient trees and links to pagan rituals and it’s classified as one of the most haunted places in the UK. If anyone visits Dartmoor and enjoys walking, there are a lot more places like this. Really enjoyed the video, thanks Matt and little Bear ❤xx

Oh wow the house had more books than a library, the man on the back of the book was the actor Timothy spall. The super gran was a vHS not a book lol .I can imagine the person looking in old skips finding these books. But also sad the weight of the books are too heavy for the house. Hope they can save the house with its beautiful views. Awww. Bear look relaxed on the window shelf, makes me laugh, when he’s got cobwebs on his head.

Absolutely not boring us with the books. It’s quite fascinating. Mainly cause of the question as to why the book hoard. I at first though they were a reseller but maybe they were just a book hoarder. They bagged them to “protect” them.

I have a feeling that that house had a mill onsite because it's perfect with the stream for water power and that round bit near the smaller building could have been used for grinding. Or they had roundabouts where animals were harnessed and walked in circles to create alternate power. Don't know but it's a thought. Whatever it was, was a really long time ago though.

Looked up the Ulcers game and here’s what I found: This game's theme is fairly unique: you are trying to assemble a full staff of personnel (two secretaries, two salesmen, one sales manager, one vice-president and one president) to run your company. The problem is there aren't enough available in total for more than one company to achieve that goal. You win by assembling a full staff and making it safely around to a New Fiscal Year (the "Go" square, in other words). As you move about the (bilingual, two-sided) board, you'll have opportunities to hire or raid competing companies. You must decide how much to pay your people --not enough and they'll switch companies, too much and your company will go bankrupt. Managing your money is an important aspect of the game but it isn't the victory condition. Definitely not what I thought it would be about. Loved the artwork. I’m also a book lover. Bet it was beautiful in its heyday! Hugs to Bear! BTW… loved the sign at the beginning! 😂😂

The shelves they've got, at least the empty (fairly empty anyway) ones upstairs are the commercial type that they've got in libraries. They were definitely extremely serious about their books! Perhaps they were starting a library because most of those books are in bad condition and not really in sellable condition.

I hope you managed to get a look at the famous Dartmoor prison while you were there. Built in the 1850s by French and American prisoners of war It's still a working prison today. There are two war memorials on the outside of the prison wall for the prisoners of war. The local church in the village also has records of the names of men who died there in the 18 00s and what they died from. It's really interesting.

We think that house is definitely being fixed ( top down ). That whoever was hoarding all those books probably started with the best of intentions ( to sell) but just ended up hoarding WAY more than they ever could sell. Also, the thing outside is an old fountain. If you look closely there is a white piece of PVC pipe coming through the ground. Loved the video. Love books. Will anyone save them? Debatable. Depends on the cost and danger. Could be easier to knock them to the lowest point and just throw them out. There would be mold abatement and all kinds of stuff involved in saving them. Loved the video!

Except for the fact that this place is in the middle of nowhere, otherwise it kind of looks like it could also have been a bookstore, at least certain parts of it. That room with the chair holding the door closed looked like the office and the scale could have been used to weigh the books for postage if he was selling them through the mail. You'd need to know the weight for the postage costs.
