White makeup powders like shown were fairly common in real life and were often a compound of arsenic. Maomao gave both concubines the note separately on the same day, but the woman that threw out the note and flower was one of Lihua's hand maidens.

This isn’t a top contender for best episode of the series, but it’s _really_ solid at establishing Maomao’s character, along with all these dynamics between her and all the other characters, and what drives them - along with a strong sense of the setting, a sense of what kinds of stories we’re in for (court intrigue and mysteries being unraveled), _and_ a solid sense of theme in juxtaposing the harem with the red light district, and showing the grim toll the chase for beauty takes when it’s a matter of life and death for women. This is a world where awful things happen, and Maomao’s seen more of it than any 17-year-old should have to - and at the same time, she’s also _very_ funny to watch, and the supportive relationships she forms with other girls and women (Pairin, Xiaolan, Gyokuyou, etc.) are delightful.

Atsumi Tanezaki did do Frieren and Anya along with Gyokyo. MAL shows the Japanese title (Sousou no Frieren) rather than Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. So it might just be that if you're looking for the front of the title for the name, it'd be at the end. Looking forward to your reaction to this one. It was a really intersting and I think pretty smarts how, so always enjoyable tos ee how folks take it in and figure things out.

Speaking of “Made in the Abyss” connections, Faputa’s VA, Misaki Kuno, plays Xiaolan (Maomao’s cute laundry service friend). Maomao is played by Yuki Aoi, who played Tanya the Evil, Tatsumaki (Tornado) from “One Punch Man,” Kumoko from “So I’m a Spider, So What?,” Clementine from “Overlord,” among many others. And as you investigated yourself, Lady Gokuyou, the orange haired concubine, is played by Atsumi Tanezaki, who played Frieren and Anya Forger. “Arrogant woman eunuch” Jinshi-sama is played by Takeo Otsuka, who played Aqua from “Oshi no Ko.”

All great titles, but stay absolutely away from Ninja Kamui... the disappointment is extreme, and i'm talking about production value. The Apothecary Diaries is really great instead!
