Lets be honest it's never the handsome well educated man with a professional career that's catcalling ladies.

Girl, you better tell it like it is! I love compliments but catcalling is just not classy at all.
@kindergardner74107 жыл бұрын
So if it were, would it be okay..?
@lobaetoile84407 жыл бұрын
That's a prejudice. Although usually more humble people do catcall (like men who work in construction), I've seen both handsome and young men doing that. And although more educated men usually don't catcall, I've known handsome men with money who are arrogant and rude with women, just in a less evident and more manipulative way. Also, men aren't always dirty and creepy when they scream compliments to women who walk by the street (yes some are gross but not always)... I've heard many men saying really playful innocent compliments such as "wow you're so cute, you must be a fallen angel" or "your smile is gorgeous today, miss, like sunshine!" And also, if someone says a disrespectful catcall it doesn't matter at all if he is beautiful or ugly, young or old, much less if he has money, I don't see why if someone handsome checks you out (in a creepy way) it's ok and when he's not it isn't, that's very hypocritical.

Kinder Gardner no, they're saying that if a man were well educated and professional, then he would not be catcalling, cause they know better than to do that but I also think you need class and self respect.....

That’s fine, a little weird we’re I come from but it was good. A week ago I guy STRUTTED up to me and YELLED sexual remarks and “compliments” humiliating me. +Luv4Animexoxo Reminds me how during my first week of college these dudes try to speak to this girl and she ignored them and they followed her around campus calling her all types of names. I wasn't there for all of that, but I happened to be in the student center when she came up to me crying asking to use my phone to call her mom and she just broke down while on the phone telling the story and saying she wants to come home. I felt so bad for her. I comforted and told her I'll walk her to the rest of her classes for the day. I never seen her on campus again after that day. Poor girl probably dropped outta school after that incident.

the reason I don't like catcalling is because it makes me feel unsafe, especially as a teenage girl. you hear stories about girls getting assaulted or even murdered for standing up for themselves, and you hear stories about the same thing happening to girls who ignore them, and if I say thank you, I worry that they will think it's an invitation for them to touch me. it's a lose-lose situation. and I know not all men are like that, but how am I meant to know whether the guy catcalling me is safe or not? even if you mean it as a compliment, I can't see your intentions I only see your actions.

Do any of these girls go anywhere alone w/o their husband boyfriend or bodyguard? Because if you're walking through the city alone and someone is calling you in this way, its not fun. I can't be the only one who finds it scary. Maybe I watch too many crime shows but ( on the odd occasion it happens to me)it makes my heart race( not in a good way). Especially if you're alone in an area where there are not many people... some of these men think its harmless and fun and its a compliment to the woman , without stopping to think that you are scaring her.

The fact that we have not only accepted this form of sexual harassment, but now want it, shows just how much power men have over us. In a world where women are already commodified and objectified beyond belief, we need to say no to this kind harassment especially when you're broadcast on national television. It's just a bad message to women and men. Imagine the sheer entitlement men must have to feel comfortable doing this to women in broad daylight. As a women living in NYC, it happens constantly and it is disgusting at best and frightening at its worst. Women: a lot of times we don't feel like we can speak back to these men out of the fear of something worse happening but we should absolutely not delude ourselves and see this as flattery.
@legendarylunatic47382 жыл бұрын
The idea of looking at things in terms of "harassment" and the like is relatively new. It has nothing to do with power, but only how heterosexual interactions between men and women. Men like a lot of things women do for them, and women like a lot of things men do for them. Trying to twist it into something with a negative connotation such as "power" is likely you trying to interpret their intentions as bad since you view catcalling as "bad". People tend to conflate negative behaviours as necessarily being driven by negative motives. Problem is, not everyone has viewed it as "bad" in the first place. Nor do the guys necessarily have any other motive than "expressing their sexual thoughts".

I never enjoyed catcalling! It started when I was in high school. It always felt creepy to me when men would turn their heads and you see their eyes scanning up and down your body. Some called me "china", some tapped on the windows as I walked passed a store, some made kissing sounds, etc. I saw my cousin and his friends catcalled back in the day too. They would howl and make animal noises at good looking females passing. Quite disturbing and comical at the same time.

It depends tbh. If you say someone’s pretty or they look good or they have pretty eyes and stuff like that is okay but the noises, the talking about body types and parts, the grabbing, the following, getting upset after she don’t answer is a no. Two of my friends are lightskin and they absolutely hate when guys catcall them by their skin color. With the baby and shorty and all that it kind of depends on what they say or do- I don’t particularly care for baby and I don’t care for when they wanna try and get you to talk to them but they don’t even ask you for your name.

Compliments: “Hey beautiful!” “You look nice today” Catcalls: “Hey baby, spend a night in my bed” “Damn, let me lift up that dress” If you can’t tell, that’s a noticeable difference. I don’t want to be catcalled like that, a simple “You’re beautiful” is not a catcall, it’s a compliment. But asking to lift up my dress and get in your bed is not a compliment.

Julio Chino Martinez yea but do you see how loni discretely shuts down Tamar by agreeing with genie that kissing or hissing at a woman is disrespectful and telling Tamar that flowers is also a way of a man saying you are beautiful.

I don't like cat calling at all... and I didn't know there existed women that do until watching this. And it's NEVER a good looking guy cat calling. Ever. No man with class or respect or actually interested in you would do that. It's always bums. NYC cat calling is the worst. I was walking along the Coney Island boardwalk and this guy legit walked right past me, took his hand and slid it down the entire front of my body while mouthing "damnnn ma" and just kept walking. I was so shocked that I stopped in my tracks but I had to just keep walking even though I wanted to punch him!

Honestly, I don't like catcalling. I rather hear a polite compliment. Then possibly chit chatting.

I learned this from a girl who showed me personally. She walked up to a girl at the cashier after we were done grocery shopping and said "Hi, I really like your hair" and she lit up! Because her hair was unique. So I tried it, the next time I saw a very pretty girl that had green hair and purple lipsticks on and said "Hey, how was your day? I like your lipstick by the way"... She LIT UP and was so happy because she took time to pick that out and it showed. As long as you're genuine, you'll get a great response! Men are dumb, it took a girl physically showing me, for me to understand it!

I don t like it at all, I found it disrespectful sometimes and embarassing. But, like Tamera said it s also the way they say it.

I wish the women research the issues more. There is a difference between complementing a woman and catcalling. Catcalling is never okay.

If we are looking good and a guy doesn't "cat call you" it's sucks, I need to keep it real. And cat calling is also acceptable when is the right guy doing it, If I find the guy attractive, I would be very excited that he finds me hot. Unfortunately we know better, is ALWAYS those type of guys that have zero chance with you that do that.

There’s a difference between catcalling and compliments. I feel like they’re talking more about compliments than catcalling when they say what they like.

People wanna be offended by catcalls because-and let’s be honest- they’re not attracted to the person catcalling... It’s the truth. You wouldn’t be offended if a really good looking guy or girl that was well dressed or put together catcalled you- unless u was underage or already a couple? I’m not saying it’s a good practice, but touchy people blowing it up is extremely exhausting

I like the sweet catcalls like, "you're beautiful" "hey girl" "how you doin'?" I was wearing a BTS sweater with "Love Yourself" on it and a guy went, "Love yourself? I like that." What I absolutely hate is when if you don't respond or smile, they get angry. I've gotten "bitch" on several occasions. I also hate when the catcalling is vulgar: once I was riding my bike through the neighborhood and a car pulls up beside me (immediately I'm ready to defend myself lol) and he goes, "you know where I can find some pussy?" Like wtf. I've been followed too and he kept trying to talk to me and then after 4 blocks he gave up and called me a bitch. It's terrifying.

All the women who are not on TV or in the public eye say they don't like it, so I don't know what these women are talking about.
