I grew up listening to John Denver's songs. Hundreds of artists have covered this song. But I feel Home Free took this one to another level for me. It is one of my favorite covers of this song. I love everything about it. It is a masterpiece. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group hands down.

Welcome to the "rabbit hole"! My understanding is that it took them 5 yrs to do this one because they wanted to get it right & do John Denver justice. Where his version sounds like he's in a hurry to get home. This version is more like they're missing home & are home sick.

John Denver's creation will always be the classic but like you, if forced to choose, I'd probably listen to Home Free's cover. 10, not even a maybe. They have some wonderful R&B covers songs from early artists like Otis Redding and Percy Sledge. But they also do some lovely gospels as well. They really are quite gifted with amazing vocals; beatboxing is top tier and the ability to cross genres takes true talent. Here's another suggestion, if interested. This one is a definite 10/10 My mum loved John Denver so I grew up listening to this song and have always loved it. But this Home Free upgrade is so good and I love it even more than the original. I grew up in the countryside and couldn’t wait to get out of there. But recently I’ve realised how much of me is because of where I grew up and the song just hits differently now.

He loves this song I think more because it brings back memories from Dry Fork..West Virginia.. you want to talk country.. his Mama didn't even have shoes to wear back in the 1930's.. COUNTRY folk.. I was raised in the country but I did have the option to wear shoes.. i didn't wear shoes because I've always loved being barefoot .. but they didn't have the option... they didn't have shoes to wear. As a mother of 5 ... I''m blessed all my children had shoes to wear.

Others for consideration: I Can't Outrun You - the video concept and direction was by Chance; pure 5-part perfection! One Man Band - video shot in one-take; love that each of the guys has a moment (or two) in this one Stand By Me - a new rendition of a song they did as a follow-up the season after winning The Sing-Off; a significant improvement IMHO on that one, where the judges were great but were featured with Home Free providing mostly BGVs - the new version give the song new life and the leads, harmonies, layering and percussion are just unreal; and Castle on the Hill - great harmonies and fun story-telling in this video.

I first saw them when they competed on the 'Sing Off' over 10 years ago. You'll not be lacking for videos to review...there's hundreds when considering those for the group and then videos for solo projects, projects they've done with other artists, as well. (They released a new video, just today, teaming up ojve again with Don McLean for his song 'Vincent.' So good!) Because these guys are so talented and versatile, performing various genres, in order to make recommendations, it helps if you perhaps ask for certain kinds of songs. Comedic, serious, patriotic, holiday, upbeat, emotional, behind-the-scenes, etc (that's to name just some of the options) . Do you want to see one of the guys perhaps take lead? They switch out, whoever is best for a particular song or portion of a song. (Adam, the beatboxer, who has a very nice tenor voice, doesn't do lead, and is seen singing only rarely.) So let us know if you have any requests. Glancing through ALL of their videos can be overwhelming.

It's a rabbit hole with lots of warrens. They have some 300 songs, there are loads of live videos (they've toured 150-200 shows per year) and 3 of them are song writers so there are also lots of originals. They each have channel(s) of their own and have side projects with each other & other artists (i.e. Kenny Rogers, Alabama, the Oak Ridge Boys among others).

John Denver's version is obviously the classic. Chance's version with Peter Hollens is lovely and has a modern feel. But Home Free's version is still my family's favorite--hands down! Besides the unbelievable harmonies, getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is such a great treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #AdamRuppSinging
