I think the "rambling on" moments were so incredibly valuable for me. I really enjoy the chatty vlog style. The fact that you care about the topic and you're not backing down from being uncomfortable makes you an incredible professor. I can't wait to hear your Ted talk.

Thank you for your honesty! I think it is important for people to hear this. Too many times, emotion is taken out of history. When I started thinking in terms of the individual, not the overall view, it made history more meaningful. I've been watching videos on the holocaust and survivors' memories, etc. and it leaves me in tears. What people have been able to do to other people for riches or just because they can is sickening. I hope you are feeling better now. I am sure there are more tough days to come, but I think it is beneficial because it sparks something - either in you or in people who watch you - and that can lead to change and having difficult discussions that are needed. Hopefully, anyway! :)

Girl, you’re amazing! I really appreciate your transparency. I’m a second-year PhD student and I’m going through self-doubt, myself. Especially trying to find a research gap, I’m really invested in. I will say that you are doing amazing! I’ve watched your old videos of your journey from Oxford and trying to get into Yale! You DESERVE all of this success and to be at Yale! Yale is lucky to have phenomenal person like you! From your business to inspire others, teaching others and want them to truly succeed; you deserve it all! Also, can’t forget about Big Moo for her support! You got this! Appreciate your videos!

Thank you for being so honest, both in that your life may not be the ideal fit or doable for everyone else and in how connecting at uni is hard sometimes. It's a shame that you feel/ have been judged for doing your phd your way. The fact that you made it there should be enough to know that you deserve to be there, but I know what it's like to not feel like it is. And thanks for also speaking about your area of study! It's such an underestimated part of a history degree for me that we look into those primary sources and start to fully understand abhorrent actions and systems in the past- it's such an important thing but can also be a lot to process.

Hi Kaelyn! I’m currently an online MSc of history student at UEdinburgh and there’s an upcoming research seminar on the topic of the impact of researching traumatic or potentially traumatizing subjects on our wellbeing. Idk if you’ll see this but if you’re interested, I’d be happy to send that info along to you. Take care and thank you for showing us your journey - you’re doing important work!

Everyone’s capacity is different ♥️ also I ebb and flow. The last few weeks I have been feeling quite energetic and excited about my studies and businesses so the amount of work is manageable. Some weeks I feel less able to handle the same amount and add in more rest. It’s all about taking it day by day and figuring out what your unique capacity is

I really really love this type of video, especially the sections were you reflect on your field. I recently finished my master's degree and am now looking into PhD positions, so seeing your process is always so encouraging and motivating. And your honesty about feeling uncomfortable or uncertainty is soooo helpful because it helps seeing that no matter what level people are at, uncertainty doesn't really go away completely. Best wishes and hope you're feeling better 🙏

I love your work so much. And about not feeling part of the group, I get it. I am a former law student doing a masters in PolSci. I can not count how many times people told me I didn't "get it right" or that my observations about law "don't matter". Scientists can form a really toxic and competitive community, but I think our passion for research, knowledge and make a better world can go beyond it all. You get it all right and you can be proud of it. Love.

Thank you for sharing your questions, your thoughts, and your struggles as you pursue your research and studies. We share the same types of questions, thoughts, and struggles in the Humanities - it is comforting knowing I am not alone in these difficulties. My thought about the lack of scholars and academics presenting the difficulties of the subject: It feels so lonely when we search and search and come up empty with this, but maybe, this gap and lack of expressing the difficulties of studying it is an opportunity for US to fill the gap with the honest truth about the difficulties and struggles that come along with studying the field.

First of all, I really love your videos! They are such an inspiration to me… I am also a third year PhD student. I am currently working on my prospectus and I’m having a really difficult time tying everything together and coming up with a clear, concise thesis statement. Any tips? Also, your dog is adorable! Lastly, I will be traveling to London in June for the first time to present a paper at a conference there… It would be great if you could make a video on London travel tips! Oh! I also love seeing my old stomping grounds… I am from and grew up in Guilford Connecticut. Keep up the great work!

don't doubt your position and place in teaching the subject that brings you to life. like you said, if not you, who? lately I feel the less I let myself spiral in my thinking, the harder it is for my doubts to seep in, and I think we're all relatively the same in that regard.

First off, let me just say how much I appreciated this video. I know you may have felt like you were just rambling on and on, but I enjoyed hearing you talk about your field of study and the passion you have for it is tangible. Also, I appreciate you sharing your self-doubts with us. I mean, personally I think you are awesome, but I realize that we don't always see ourselves the way others see us. Please don't let others negative energy get to you...the likely hood that you and I will ever meet is slim but trust me when I tell you how much I appreciate your videos; they make me want to study harder and be more than I have been. I am 36 and currently working towards a new career. I didn't go to college (that's another story for another day), but I am working towards my bachelor's degree and trying to decide if I want to pursue English or Psychology...I am leaning more towards Psychology. The point is, watching videos like yours keep me encouraged, focused, and determined to push myself. So, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Minutes 19-20 really reminded me of a course I am currently taking, talking about "Professional capital". The idea here is that professional capital is made of human capital (what an individual knows), social capital (what a community/branch knows), and decisional capital (the ability to make decisions in difficult situations). It is of course a highly capitalistic idea (duh), but it is an interesting concept. It basically explains how in order to be a professional, we need to combine the other aspects and share our experiences and knowledge with others. There's a book on this by Hargreaves and Fullan "Professional Capital. Transforming teaching in every school" which explores this idea.

Hi Kaelyn! You mentioned in this segment wanting to make Accepted's services more beneficial for those outside of academia. I just wanted to at least comment in brief that you and your team's content has been immeasurably helpful to me as a professional in the sciences. I'm an infectious disease epidemiologist working on the practice side (so my last three years have been absolute madness). I SO wish I had your insight and organizational content in my toolkit when I was a student, but I've still found it so helpful post-academia. I'm interested to see what you come up with, and would be happy to expand on some of the needs I've identified for those of us who are outside of academia. This is anecdotal, but at least among my colleagues, some of the frustrations are common - hard to keep up with developments in the field (i.e. academic research), hard to focus professional development if it isn't tied to maintaining a license, etc. Either way - know that your work already benefits those outside of academia and I'm excited to see how it evolves! - Julia

Thinking on the topic of how capitalist slavery was, you should look at Jennifer Morgan's "Reckoning with Slavery: Gender, Kinship and Capitalism in the Early Black Atlantic." It focuses heavily on the intersectionality of Black Women and Capitalism and how that relationship changes over time. (15-1700ish) It really stuck with me as a historian and as a person. I understand what you meant by how difficult to process the work we do. Self care time! Another great vlog and at least we can see how passionate you are about the study ❤
