What Captain Claiborne has accomplished and what she is saying is so important. And what a beautiful call out to the Tuskegee Airmen. My mom is from Tuskegee and got to meet some of these heroes growing up. Also so proud Tuskegee has the only HBCU College of Veterinary Medicine. Kudos Captain Claiborne I admire you.

we are deeply inspired ! can u imagine...she at a party and someone be like what u do. u wouldn't believe it. the crazy thing is...women MUST by their very nature be better pilots than men. it is a job for an innate multitasker, and women are natural multitaskers ! add the chocolate in their...please. i feel ten times safer with her behind the cockpit than any other pilot.

Only about 5% of airline pilots are women of any race. Promoting aviation careers to women has made slow progress. I'd love to see more captains like Capt Claiborne and Capt Emily Warner (first female airline captain).

Because there are millions of qualified poc that are overlooked because their skin wasn’t white. The fact the Captain had to assure us that she was qualified, speaks of her experience with those who see a poc in a high position. There are white Americans getting high paying jobs with like 1 yr experience and an associate degree vs a black person who had 10 years experience and a bachelor. (I’ve actually witnessed this when I was working in HR office) DEI is suppose to give poc an equal chance to bring equity to their families and communities. Y’all crying over something that hardly affects the majority. Black ppl for example make up about 13% of America. Less than 1% of educated black men get high paying jobs equal to a white man. No one said hire unqualified poc; but make sure your company/organization isn’t hiring all the majority because you think white is right. This Captain is an exception, which shows that DEI is needed. There should have been many more black women US pilots graduating with her. Her story just tells us that America was on a path of being less prejudice to black Americans and American Women in general.

There was such a thing as Affirmative Action. Call it by any name but without a focus of giving minorities and women opportunities then there will be no minorities or women in the field. You have been brainwashed to thing that DEI is the selection of unqualified people.

I think AOPA would be doing a better historic story covering David Harris. The 1st black pilot hired by a major airline. His uniform is in the Smithsonian. He just died and should be remembered.

If only that were true. Black people are still thought of as not qualified for quote, unquote White Jobs. All you have to do is read some of the comments on some videos referencing DEI as the reason for mistake that are made, i.e. the resent rash of close calls with ATC. I fear that this country will never be color blind, at least not in my lifetime.
