Shearer's biggest mistake was signing for Newcastle. Yes, it was his boyhood club and all, but I bet you there is a piece of him that must think "what could have been...". He could have potentially gone to Newcastle after Man United. I'm sure the club would have bought him even in his later years. Nevertheless, what a supreme talent he was. A pure scoring machine.

Man utd weren’t established as the Man Utd we know today though that’s the thing Newcastle were actively challenging for the top spot at that time so why wouldn’t he choose them
@mq830
@mq830 11 ай бұрын
@@kwame1637 That's a fair point. That said United did win 3 of the first 4 PL's at that point. So with a wee bit of foresight, you could have seen that something special was taking place. Even Alan at the time knew that United was the place to be. Kenny just did enough to pull on his heartstrings to lure him away.

Not sure Blackburn can be counted as a bad choice given that he won the league with them, and Newcastle is his hometown team, the team he loves and has supported all his life. @@RandomVideosFirst if your dream is to play for your hometown club and you end up taking on an iconic number and become the club's all time goalscorer I'd say you've done well... if it was that easy everyone talking about professional footballers in the comment section would have done it. it's not a "lack of ambition" it's a different ambition, almost all kids in the region grow up wanting to play for Newcastle, barely any ever make it professionally, a fraction will ever make it into a first team game and what do you think the chances are of a kid from the region becoming the club's all-time top goalscorer, wears the most iconic shirt number and is perhaps one of the clubs best ever players... you measure ambition by trophies, maybe a different ambition is beating the odds. As for Kane... hardly the same, he was an Arsenal supporter, he didn't work his way to get to Spurs, he got to Spurs because Arsenal let him go as an academy product, I doubt playing for Spurs a team he never supported means a 10th of what it would mean for someone in Newcastle and the surrounding areas to play for their club and become a club legend, it's more ridiculous that Kane is staying at Spurs out of loyalty because he never supported them.
