The difference between Rick & Korbin is that Korbin leaves a chance to things and if he doesn't like it he's not rude about it, it's just not his cup of tea and that's it... while Rick looks sour and acts rude and condescending 🙃 (Then he complains people are defensive and don't want to listen to him lol but look at the smug face he's making at the end all throughout the review part... he's just plain _rude_ ) I saw Theri years ago, it was my 1st Vijay movie, from what I remember I'd give it a B. It was nice and it did what a mass entertainer is supposed to do (entertain through action, comedy, songs, charismatic actors, and a plot at least fairly engaging) but it didn't go beyond that and it stayed rather stereotypical especially in its treatment of the drama parts. The father daughter bond was a big plus though. I can see why someone wouldn't care for the storytelling as it's not subtle and the drama is rather heavy handed, but it's not a bad movie just because it's in a style that you dislike and there is 0 reason to act the way Rick did in this video.

Lokesh is obviously a master storyteller lol. Atlee cant compare to him. If you want Vijay movies as great as Master (or at least second best to it types) check these out: Ghilli (good acting, good humour, a decent story, over the top action) Thuppaki (neat action thriller for the most part, almost as good as Master) Sachin (if you like romcoms, the film will at least fun for the first watch for sure) Outside of this if you are okay with older romcoms, Kushi Thullaadha Manamum Thullum Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai Kannukkul Nilavu Poove Unakkaaga

Totally understandable. Personally for me Theri was a better film compared to Bigil and Mersal. But this is Atlee. He is good in packaging a commercial entertainer. He succeeded consecutively because there is no one like him with packaging a final product. Jawan would be the same as this. So lower your expectations 😅 My fav moments of the film are the rape victim/revenge episode, Sam/Vijay/kid chemistry and all songs worked out big time.

In the very beginning of this review, you mentioned that you are watching "Theri" for Atlee to get a feel of the director before Jawan and not for the movie which has Vijay, Samantha, Amy and many more is testament to your approach of reviewing the film. Almost in the first 2 scenes itself, the reaction was very clear and with that mindset even the best of Hollywood film can be ignored and trolled. Like you said, you are entitled to your view and I am entitled to mine, "THIS REACTION OF YOURS IN COMPLETELY BIASED AS YOU WANTED TO GET GLIMPSE OF THE DIRECTOR SINCE HE DIRECTED JAWAN"

I don't think I've ever commented here but had to since there's so many comments hating Rick. Just wanted to mention 2 things to you guys 1) Everyone is allowed their opinion Rick. If you guys don't like something, it's absolutely fine to say that. No matter what you say, there'll be butthurt people everywhere. 2) "You didn't like it because you're not from here" - you guys really need to pick a movie that is really relatable to Indian audience and see if you get an emotional connect. That will set the tone for you guys to watch other movies that rely heavily on relatable emotional moments for Indians. Theri - my review Bad - I don't like Atlee's direction. Raja Rani was good. Theri and Mersal have some good portions. Bigil is the worst of his movies. This movie does have choppy editing/screenplay. Makes it feel like episodes are stitched together in a weird way. Vijay does some weird mannerism with his voice. The villain's acting doesn't really sync well. Character looks for vijay and Amy didn't work well for me. Good - Vj's swag, fight scenes, songs, Samantha's acting. The children who are forced to beg and how vj fights for justice - this kidnapping, amputation of kids to force them into begging actually happens here and right from the initial portion of the movie, this brings out the emotion in us and sets the tone. The rape victim - we have come across numerous cases to the point where it should feel numb but it pains even more because of the fact that we can't do anything to stop it. The movie shows its rape victim based on a number of real life cases mixed in it. As you should expect by now any decent guy would've got his blood boiling at that point. I was fucking mad and the payoff is when the doctor describes how the guy was killed, almost brings a smile in our faces. Final thing is when Sam's character gets killed off and the payoff is at the climax(didn't work for me). These 3 things are the major emotional connect in this movie for me and if you guys didn't feel anything for any of this, it's probably because you're not affected by the horrible things that happen in India since you're not here. Just like how you guys tune your mind to forget the logic in fight sequences, you need to tune your mind to the emotional aspect as well cuz lots of movies are loaded with that. If you're always hoping to see bone breaks and logic defying fights, most indian movies would just be too serious and boring for you. Even if Atlee is a mostly shitty director, he knows how to bring out the emotions and Theri has much better emotional connect than RRR by a long way. RRR is just a propaganda film

I know how you feel. But I want to make one thing clear that the movies taken now a days are PAN INDIA. Vijay has been admired across all age groups in Tamil Nadu especially by the kids. At that time directors make movie on the fan base and also consider their expectations.This film is completely dedicated for the kids. My son enjoys watching this film. Vijay rocks in all the rolls

You won’t be able to connect to the story mostly because it’s more of the Indian realities which you might not know about and the jokes mostly was for kids and parents. No need to feel bad when you hear that you don’t belong or anything. The incidents that’s shown in this movie have literally happened where as family people with sisters and daughters feel like there should be someone as Vijay’s character to really do something for justice.

Theri is a very mass commercial family-oriented film, which is liked by most Tamil audiences (especially when it comes on TV). Key things that are loved: the father-daughter relationship, flashback sequences featuring Vijay in a cop role, and relationship of him with Samantha, and the villain. You guys didn’t like any of those portions and the main reason is that I think you were expecting more action (which Jawan will have for sure than this movie so I think you guys will definitely have a fun time with that movie than this one) or maybe you guys still are not adapted to the type of family elements when it comes to Indian cinema in general. When you look at movies (mentioning the ones you guys have reviewed) like Baahubali (both parts), Rangasthalam, Jersey, Mahanati, Eega (first 30 minutes), now Theri, Karnan, Soorarai Potru, and Nayakan, these movies have a lot of family drama/emotional family content for the family audience. Obviously, some of these movies you didn’t hate outright hate it (or necessarily didn’t love it either like Baahubali but also told a bunch of flaws), but most of them were negative reviews from your side. All these films are loved by Indian audiences in general because it is relatable to them (especially the family parts for that emotional connection). There are only a few instances where you have connected to these family emotions (mainly from Bollywood films and recently Thiruchitrambalam), but it is very rare. Movies like RRR, Vikram, Jailer, Master, Rocky which you outright loved/liked didn’t really have full family connect (either full action, swag, violence, or friendship which is different from family). Movies like those are coming out more often these days (like Salaar, Leo, Captain Miller, Thangalaan, Animal, etc) so you might like/love those, but still, there are going to be a lot of movies that will have these family-oriented contents (mainly for the family audience), especially from the South Industry which is better for you to avoid imo since seeing the previous reviews, there are high chances both of you won’t like it. I think only Indians, who are especially born in India, can relate to the family subjects that are discussed in those films, especially when it comes to the Telugu industry (they produce some of the best family subjects/comedy-drama along with action, so basically pure mass commercial films which will only be loved by Indians which is probably why I think you guys haven’t reacted to a lot of Telugu movies but it's just my guess. The same can apply for Tamil films, with recent movies like Dada, and Good Night). Also just a side note, this is just beyond me how Korbin liked Adipurush, but not in the slightest like this one lol

This movie is a pure entertainment for vijay fans and tamil audience in general. I guess you're not into this type of category, but a whole lot of tamil movies made are in this category, because it works / worked. This is the same style how Rajnikanth movies ruled and loved by tamil audience. If you dont like this movie, you wont enjoy most movies of the top heroes (except for Kamal maybe). However, im guess you would like Thuppakki. As i believe the "treatment" of the movie is how you'd expect. Its quite sad, you cant enjoy a hearty, emotional and jolly movie.

Vijay is not just a typical mass hero you can see shades of his true potential if you watch more of his previous films, he’s just not gotten a script yet that can showcase his true potential from start to end. Hopefully Leo can do this!
