When the bridge was being built, it was very common for workers to die while building that kind of architecture and buildings, bridges, etc. 11 deaths is a lot for us because nowadays, it's not "normal" for a bridge worker to die, but safety measures were not in place in these days. The net mentioned in the video was a first. Employers didn't have a lot of concern for heir workers' safety, it was just totally normal for people to die and nobody was held accountable. Thank God it has changed and security is so important today.

It's the fact that due to the precautionary measures in place that only 11 died considering how long the bridge is and how long it took to build many more could have died for instance look at Hoover Dam it took a few more years to build but not much but because poor safety measures over 100 people died building it.

Interesting note about the nuclear bomb photo. The main one they focus on is the Bravo Shot from Operation Crossroads. That big black splotch in the stalk of the mushroom cloud is the USS Arkansas (BB-33). The Arkansas was 562 feet long, 93 feet wide and displaced 27,000 tons... and she's suspended vertically from the force of that explosion.

my father grew up in Pittsburgh, and was told the legend growing up, and when he became a teenager, he and his buddies would take their girlfriends out at night tell them the story and drive by where he took his walks pointing him out to them as he strolled down the road. I heard this and felt horrible and mad at him, but he explained they were young and trying to impress their girlfriends. He said looking back on it, he wished he hadn't done that. I agree, poor guy couldn't get ant peace!!

I think they got confused. On wikipedia it says, "The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate strait, the one-mile-wide (1.6 km), three-mile-long (4.8 km) channel between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean." Meaning the channel is 3 miles long and 1 mile wide.

The reason the guard passed out was from locking his knees which cuts off your circulation some how. If it was the heat many more guards would have passed out. They teach you in the military not to lock your knees because of this.

The photograph of the injured man shown during the Bikini atoll nuclear test narrative was a man who had suffered a horrid disfiguring injury during the naval battle of Jutland in 1916 called Willie Vicarage, thus totally unrelated. On the up side he received plastic surgery, which was being pioneered at the time. Figuring his treatment was complete in approximately 1920 it would make an awesome addition to a plastic surgery vid.
