This thermal comparison was fun. We lined up three (3) different thermal scanners and two (2) thermal rifle scopes. The thermal devices lined up - Night Tech HD-25 Lite (19mm lens), Night Tech XD-35 (25mm lens), IRAY XEYE E3Max (35mm lens), Thermion XQ50 (42mm lens) and a PARD SA45 (45mm lens). All the thermals have a 384x288 17um sensor. Cost values range from roughly $1600 through to $6000 per unit. It's a common question on what is the best value thermal or what is the difference between a XX and XX device. Running a comparison between 5 different lens sizes was quite interesting to see and it's a good gauge of performance. Larger the lens, the more detection range (AKA power). But also the larger lens increases the base magnification. I wouldn't call this a "thermal review", more just out thoughts as general punters out using this kit weekly. There's little bias in the products used, it's just what we own and use.
Huge thanks to Adam and Eric for bringing a few of them thermals we played with. This kind of thing doesn't happen without great mates helping out too.

Another great review Nathan . I have the hd 25 and it does the job for the price . I can spot foxes at 250m then id them with my nv . When money permits will get the next step up but for 1600 bucks its a pretty good start . Hope to get some foxes with the pard 008lrf this break as i m back from work . Keep up the good work mate .

I agree mate. At $1600 they are an awesome gateway thermal. Compare a HD-25 to a FLIR Scout or Leupold LTO tracker and the it'll smoke the toy units. I'm still getting used to full ID with a thermal on my rifle. Pro's and con's but NV is easier on static targets to ID.

Great stuff Nathan, was a bit shocked by the size of that python, spitting venom on the last clip🤣🤣🤣. Have had the Night Tech 50 for a while now and find it an excellent spotter. Thermion XM50 due this week. Getting excited. Keep the great videos coming and stay safe through these challenging times. Kindest regards Gary Gunner.

great info, thanks. I have Thermion XQ50 as well, You mentioned the vertical lines and having to do a refresh quite regularly, the image in mine starts to lose detail within a minute or so, the Auto refresh happens every 1 minute which is a nuisance when the screen freezes, how do you get around that? I've started using semi auto.

Both B&H and OpticsPlanet list Pard SA62 as 640x480 sensor; has the sensor been upgraded since two-years ago when this vid was made? Both also listed Pard as a scope, not a monocular? What might be the max caliber Pard could reliably survive?

On the InfiRay E6 scanners, I prefer the FOV on the E6+ version. The Pro is a bit narrow for a scanner at the magnification.

I think you have a typo in the captions. At 8:05 you give 100 m for the Thermion XQ50, but then again at 8:16 you also give 100 m. I think you meant 200 m for 8:16.
