if its a 2 cycle the ratio of oil/fgas is far more critical then most believe and often the cause of this type of problem Taking a gas can and filling it to a marked fill line then adding the oil is NOT correct although almost everyone does it that way Gas can companies are not always accurate with the marked line We got tired of these carburetor issues and this is how we never had the same problem again Fill your gas can with water measuring the EXACT number of ounces you want (typically either 1 or 2 gallons) then use a bright light behind a plastic can to see the water line and mark it with a permanent marker with a fine not thick line dump water out of course Then dump oil into gas can BEFORE the gas not just because it mixes better but because you want to use the gas to wash out the oil can and dump it into the gas can so you actually get all the exact amount of oil. ALWAYS use the SAME exact 2 cycle oil it is NOT all the same regardless of what they say They are refined differently and the mixture is what will cause very slight amounts of slugging you cannot see with your eye.Then never leave the gas in your machine over winter or long periods without use Dump the gas out of the gas tank then start the machine and let it run OUT of gas Then its safe to store long periods and will start up easily with fresh gas Sometimes these machines have a aeration screen on the muffler which will clog or the mesh holes get smaller with buildup We remove these mesh screens completely as out going air is as important as incoming There is of course many other basic things one can do these are the ones most do not know Good luck

I imagine that mesh screen, the one you remove, is to help prevent igniting the vapor and creating a fireball. Such a problem would be frightening enough outside in the open, and potentially lethal indoors.

The thermal fogger I have, the “Trailblazer” uses straight gas in the tank. I imagine they all do. The oil mix is not oil like for a 2 cycle engine because a pulse jet carburetor does not power a traditional “engine”, it simple provides the mix of fuel to air to be ignited:… the oil used is a purified oil mixed with the pesticide, and it is this mix that is a injected into the fogger for dispersal at the micron size. A modern 2 cycle engine has a filter or screen between the exhaust port and the muffler, or on some machines, a barrel filter plug that can be unscrewed from the muffler without having to take the muffler off to remove the other type of screen. And yes, I have removed them due to their clogging on 2 cycle engines. The pulse jet engine exhaust is cleaned with a special sized bristle brush… if too much buildup forms in the tube, the buildup can catch fire when shutting down the machine or improper operation causes it to form a flash out… hence never point it at any object when shutting it down, just in case!
