Kerry's Waltz is a song I wrote without lyrics in 1971 while still in college. I had mostly forgotten about it until I was asked to come up with an original, romantic waltz for The Rock-afire to perform in Ryan Gosling's new movie, "Lost River", which, at the time was dubbed, "How To Catch a Monster".
I recalled the waltz I loved and played on the piano in college for anyone who would listen, and searched for the reel to reel tape I recorded it on to remind myself how it went. Rushing to finish in time, and hoping Ryan would like it, I wrote the words, recorded the tune, programmed it and got the Rock-afire to Detroit in the Summer of 2013 for his filming.
It was filmed, but, disappointingly, did not make the final cut of the movie.
When I wrote the melody at 17 years old, it was my dream to someday fall in love with a beautiful angel who would love me forever. Long before I met Kerry, I had given up on that dream, but, here I am, 61 years old, singing this song through Billy Bob for my Sweetheart of 12 years, as my teenage fantasy has finally come true.
