food in the Philippines is cheap if you know where to go. i guess those who don't believe what other vloggers say haven't really explored Manila or the Philippines enough. or they just don't like the type of foods that are fairly priced here.

Tondo being a dangerous place is a statement that is so overused over the years and we have not heard of one vlogger in the news getting victimized in Tondo(none that i know of). in fact, more and more vloggers are going there to dispel this stereotype and i don't understand why they still believe it.

Thailand is a lot better considering the road infrastructure, traffic management and a lot less road congestion, access to public transport, availability of taxi, healthier and cheaper food options and better value in terms of pricing and food portions. Thailand is a lot cleaner. Health care is better . This opinion coming from a Filipino who lives in the USA. The only plus for the Philippines would be less language barrier as majority of population can at least speak or understand English and that's basically it and I'm sorry but that's the truth

And the ladies are much more conservative and femenine in the Philippines ie. they cook, do the house chores, take care of you, etc, which is a huge plus. Ladies in Thailand are the laziest in the world, in my experience

I personally love the culture of Thailand ... the history, heritage, folklore, arts, architecture, Buddhism, etc. Both are great countries with friendly people. The extent English is spoken in the Philippines is fantastic, though. Thailand is a richer country with a better infrastructure.

Thailand is cheaper, but the people in the Philippines speak English. And that's a HUGE benefit. If you're dead broke, certainly you should make the cost the top priority. But if you have even a Social Security check, cost is not the number one consideration.

Do u have money saved for emergencies if u are broke and moving overseas? You have money for healthcare for medical emergencies, u have money for other big emergencies. I have seen so so so many foreigners get sick or motorbike crashes and have no money. They make u pay up front, even if u have some insurance. So many motorbike crashes are cause by dogs running in the street,,,,hahahahaha

Flew into Clark and couldn't be happier with the experience, No lines, no congestion, almost an empty airport, SOOOO different from Manila. Looking forward to the day they get the quick connect trail system finished from Angels City to Manila and beyond.

I like living in the Philippines. I do enjoy visiting Thailand. For me I get to make dear friends with local Filipinos here because everyone speaks English. In Thailand, there is a few that speak English but mostly Westerners just seem to hang out with Westerners. For me, Thailand has a much better infrastructure than Philippines which I still get frustrated by.

For me it's the Philippines because it's where my wife is from and where her family lives. Money isn't everything and really it just depends on the preference of what someone likes over the other. I think that it's best for each person to do their own research than to go by what one person says.

Its not surprising that Thailand is way way more inexpensive than in the Philippines, because of the numbers of tourists thats coming to Thailand. Its like 300% more than the tourist thats coming to the Philippines.

I would think several big reasons I would choose The Philippines over Thailand. The Philippines feels more western, as in the USA or Canada. People speak English in the Philippines. The Philippines is over eighty percent Catholic. Even if you are a evangelical Protestant I think you would feel more comfortable in a Christian country than a Buddhist country. The Philippines is the only Asian country that is Christian and English speaking.

Thailand, although a Buddhist country, has freedoms like the West, such as birth control, and LGBTQ people can be safe and free without being discriminated against. Freedom to drink alcohol Eat and travel 24 hours a day. It is safe to walk at night and move freely. There are no storms, earthquakes, tsunamis or volcanic eruptions. And in Bangkok, there are many and widespread people who can speak English.

For me since I’m Filipino I am biased. Thailand has the Indian ocean so it’s warmer than the pacific but in a hot tropical country i prefer cooler water. Thailand has nice beaches but the versatility and unlimited islands of the Philippines is unmatched. Anyways, I prefer Thailand and Bali get more attention. Philippines is getting a lot of tourism which is good for the economy but I don’t want it to get overcrowded like Bali and Thailand.

You still don't understand the geography of the southern region of Thailand. It is a peninsula with two oceans on both sides: the Andaman Sea in the Indian Ocean. and the Gulf of Thailand in the Pacific Ocean Which is great because you can travel all year round because storms come on both sides but don't match up, so you can escape the storm. But in the Philippines, when Typhoons occur, traveling is often difficult. On the Indian Ocean side, there are Phuket, Krabi, and Trang. On the Pacific Ocean side, there are Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Chang, Hua Hin, Pattaya. If there are many tourists, if you manage well, it can make the environment quality and convenient for tourism. If there are not many tourists, sometimes management may not be enough due to the budget and income that will go into development. For example, beachkeepers manage garbage that comes from the sea and washes ashore.

I can answer that. For Thailand, the food is much better, the infrastructure is much better, public transportation is better housing is better, but in my opinion the people, the women are better, more caring and loving. Also English speaking country.

Comparing Thailand to the Philippines, they have a different characteristics, but in overall for me I can say I still prefer the Philippines. no one can beat.

I’m trying to decided between the 2, spent 5 months in Thailand and currently going on 7 months in Philippines, no clear winner in my eyes…I agree with most of the pros and cons stated in the video. I find the people in Thailand friendlier, has better service and generally people just smile much more. I’m Korean American who is viewed as Chinese and feels like this works against me in the Philippines but a perk in Thailand. Video ended abruptly…looking forward to a second part if it’s coming.

Thailand tax on your income (pension and social security) at up to 35 percent is a huge negative!

It’s not yet clear how the new tax rule will affect individual expats. The dual tax treaty probably means at most you might be liable for the difference if anything. Thai taxes are progressive with 35% being the top rate. Only money brought into Thailand is liable to taxation and you would have to be bringing in a lot to reach the 35% rate. It is a change though that is concerning potential expats considering Thailand.

Thailand is SLIGHTLY cheaper. The difference in costs is so slight that it should not be a deciding factor if you’re choosing between the 2 countries (unless you’re comparing Thailand with Metro Manila).

I guess, cheaper shouldn't be the word they used. I'd say "value for money", but that tax and visa fees could be a huge red flag that'll take Thailand out of the conversation anyway.

Thailand is cheaper but your income as a YTer will likely be lower than in the Philippines. Many YTers from Thailand went over to Philippines to boost their subscriber base and they were very open about that.

very true. however, things may start to pivot as views of KZfaqrs are starting to decline. vlogging in the PH is becoming too saturated, even the well-known vloggers who have spent at least a year here are struggling to keep up with the numbers. its too obvious not to notice it. and tbh, it can eventually work in favor of the PH to slowly get rid of a toxic concept called pinoybaiting.

We’re not the only people in the world who stays on Social Media. Our country and people are just very welcoming and inviting by nature. Visa cost should be part of the "cost" to live somewhere. If it costs $25,000 for a visa to live in Thailand for 5 years (and then that visa needs to be renewed) that is very, very expensive compared to other countries. Especially for retirees living on a fixed income. Thailand is missing an opportunity to make a lot of money from retirees who would be spending money on a place to live, food, health care, etc., without taking away jobs or committing crimes. A potential win/win for Thailand.

knowledge of english is linked with friendliness, or at least perceived friendliness. the locals will be more willing to interact with tourists or foreigners if they can communicate in a common language. Zane's final point about the Bangkok metro is valid.........it's rapidly expanding. pretty soon you'll be able to get anywhere via the metro system , plus maybe a moto-taxi for the final mile. now if they can just keep parts of it from breaking off and falling down, it'll be heaven! those tracks are way up there 😂

I do agree with him in regards to accommodations and food. And I am Filipino. Thailand all the way, BUT not sure if he has come across the latest Thailand tax law that is effective 2024 - though you would pay taxes in the US for your income and or a retirement fund, it will be double taxed in Thailand (up to 35%). Now, because of that, I’m expecting a mass exodus of ex-pats leaving Thailand. Would love to hear other thoughts on this to keep me honest.

You are also required to report to the Thailand Immigration Bureau every 90 days. And if you plan to travel within Thailand you are also required to disclose all the places you plan to visit and probably report back upon your return. Freaking hassle, no thank you

My friends from HK that own a villa in Thailand report to the Bureau when they do cycling trips within Thailand BTW, an excerpt 90 Day Reporting Procedure Notification can be done in three ways. The foreigner makes the notification in person, or authorises another person to make the notification or makes the notification by registered mail. Online notification has been trialed but the system rarely works.

Effective Jan 1 of this year, Thailand will tax foreign income at a 35% rate including pensions. This, the Philippines DOES NOT do, making the Philippines a better deal, independent of potential cost of living differences or other factors. US citizens must pay US taxes on their worldwide income, which means potential”y being double-taxed if residing in Thailand.

I live in Thailand. Tax treaties remain in place. You will not be double if you pay any tax at all.

@@martypoll You don’t understand tax treaties. They only give you a tax credit for what you owe in your nonresident country, but you still have to pay the full tax rate, less the credit, in your resident country. Specifically, this is because income tax rates for a given income amount may be different (with the US rate usually lower because of the deductions that are uniquely allowed in the US tax system), between the two counties. For example, if your US marginal tax rate is 15% and the same income in Thailand, a poorer country, is 25%, then one would pay the US 15%, get a credit for this toward the 25% due in Thailand, and hav etc pay the Thai govt 10%. Notably, the Thai govt has indicated they intend to tax money brought/transferred into Thailand (known as a remittance) from outside the kingdom at the same rate. The implication of this stated policy is that even non-income savings would be taxed.

@@dr.michaellittle5611 I understand all that. The question is will the difference be enough to leave or decide not to come in the first place. There would be various exemptions available in Thailand to reduce your tax as well. They have progressive tax rates so the rate depends on how much you bring in. Also, the burden will depend on what country you are from. The US taxes pensions but in other countries they don’t. A tip: if you can qualify and get the 10-year LTR visa then the money you bring into Thailand is not taxable

@@martypoll But why would anyone want to “invest” $250k in Thai bonds or property in a country that is essentially a military dictatorship just to have a visa? The Philippines doesn’t have such a ridiculous requirement (my deposit was only $1,500) for a retirement visa and they don’t tax foreign income.

Cambodia is cheaper for retired people - ''if'' - you consider visa costs & no visa runs + the $180/year low cost. --- All expenses need to be considered and ease of being there - long term. Khmer people are even friendlier than the Filipinos & they too speak English - and - they even take USD's ! Siem Reap is a beautiful city with lots of international food choices very low rents some 20K expats from many countries PUB STREET and even 50 cent beers many places !!! -- Big enough but not too big. -- Many simply love living there. And Bangkok is a cheap 1 hour flight away - for fun or quality affordable health services. > It too is said to be a good bit cheaper than the Philippines ! Several who have lived both places say so and even confirm the "friendlier people" - believe it or not ?!? = Worth a try.

Filipinos are really not that friendly. We’re welcoming by nature but we have our boundaries. ;) PH is a Christian/Catholic Country, reason a lot of Western Foreigners relate to PH more than Cambodia.

The title of this video is misleading. They don't talk about retirement at all. The Philippines does have the advantage with low cost visas using the 3 year of extending a tourist visa.. They leave the misimpression that it costs $25,000/5 years to stay in Thailand. The Thailand Elite visa is a real program targeted toward wealthy expats of any age. For expats over 50, most get the O visa. You extend this visa yearly for $52/year. However there are financial requirements. You either have to deposit about $22,000 in a Thai bank OR deposit $1,800/month into a Thai bank (you can spend all the money using the monthly income method).

Better to retire in the Philippines because you just to live in southern Thailand because northern Thailand is boring unlike in the Philippines you can live north and south and you have a lot of things to do.

I am a foodie. I like papaya salad, but everything else in Thai dish is like typical chinese food with coconut cream/milk. I used to live near 3 Thai Restaurants when I lived in Houston. Philippines food has more variety from across the world. I prefer Vietnamese food better than Thailand. To each their own. This Guy has always liked Thailand. He should meet up with Mergim.

Thai food is more diverse than you might think. Sunday is mostly focused on frying. Thai people in the provinces like to eat chili paste with vegetables on the side. A variety of fresh fish and fried or grilled fish

I disagree with this guy regarding visa in Thailand and he referred to the ELITE VISA in this case for 5 years but is not just a visa they have lots of benefits with it and by the time you splitting this into the years it's a good buy. Also are other types of visas more affordable and very good for the time that you be spending in the kingdom.

I have the Thailand 10 year pensioner LTR visa. It costs $1,300 for 10 years. No money in the bank requirements but it does have a health insurance requirement. You have to be over 50 and have a passive/pension income of $80,000/yr
