lol, mishra is an excellent stax commander. Put any permanent onto the battlefield to counter artifact spells (like blood funnel) and then mishra’s ability will see the countered spell in the graveyard and bring it back for free as part of the resolution of the original spell

Brother there's like at least 5 cards in mono black that say "You can't loose the game" and it's the colour with all the tutors. You can totally run Phage.

I have a friend who had a tetzimoc deck and it actually did work. He did have to put it into his hand, but from there it was terrifying

In the knight tribal precon from MoM, there's a legendary monoblack knight called "sir haakon", which reads "You may cast sir haakon from your graveyard but from nowhere else". So it's basically useless as a commander.

Mishra was the first commander I ever built when I had been playing the game for about a year. I wanted to upgrade my first draft deck, one I really enjoyed playing, into a commander deck. That was UR Artifacts in Magic Origins draft. At the time, Mishra was the ONLY commander in both red and blue that had any kind of interaction with artifacts. So I built it with all the tricks to make the ability work just so I could run cards like Reclusive Artificer.

Mishra does work. I've built it before and it's a very interesting grixis stax style

Mishra is a ton of fun, but you have the issue where the pieces to make him work are essentially useless on their own or even actively harmful to you. So yeah, build at your own risk.

I have Phage in my Oloro deck and casting Fractured Identity on my Phage with Mana Drain backup was one of the funniest ways I've ever won a game.

Phage is an incredible commander as long as youre one of those people who enjoys screwing with the basic rules of the game

There was this one deck, something in relation with Ninjas iirc, that puts Phage in the Graveyard then the aforementioned ninja would copy its attack effect to wipe a player out, by giving it unblockable beforehand. I forgot what it was called.

Mishra works well as a commander, so does phage and so is Tetzimoc, there's just a few hoops for each one to go through to make them very excellent commanders.

My first commander was Korlash, heir to blackblade. Which like +1/+1 for each swamp was pretty cool, but his second ability didn't really do much. Well it confused my opponents so that was fun.

Mishra Storm was my favorite edh deck ever. My win ratio was absurdly high. It was cascade for all my artifacts. Tuned, and finely calculated for Possibility Storm. I got so good with it. I took out all infinite combos, and still crushed. Even when people knew to remove Possibility Storm. If you don't remove it. I WILL go off.

I think Mishra is interesting and is probably the best he’s ever been in terms of deck design. With cards like Encroaching Mycosynth and Biotransference you can now make it so permanents or creatures are artifacts in every zone. I utilized that to build a Rat Colony deck, that while not super strong is quite unique.

Putting Mishra on here feels off since he's a commander that when you get any of the synergy pieces up he goes off hard.

Basically any ninjutsu legend without commander ninjutsu

I am currently in the process of building a phage the untouchable deck where the entire goal of the deck is to hard cast her from the command zone as quickly as possible. I'm also going to run cards in there that will allow me to play it as a normal commander deck if I would like to on the side

you named 3 fairly strong commanders here. They all have really interesting and strong strategies that work fine in commander. youd be better off redoing this as 3 unintuitively good commanders. Phage plays black stax and will usually be a constant threat of losing once she leaves the command zone unless you can force her back (and remove whatever let her out, hush effects or netherborn altar, usually) Mishra plays combo/syax. blood funnel effects, other blanket counters, and you can get a lot of upside, skip most of the downside, and make the stack a pain for anyone else Tetzumoc plays interaction/combo. hrs essentially played as a 2 card synergy with Horobi, but looks less threatening in the command zone. once you have them, you have 1 black to destroy any creature, and play black combo around it

You can play phage in esper stiflenought or TK for red and give haste or smthn

My Phage deck slaps, but I really had to build around her limitations. I have maybe 10 different things in the deck to either get her to my hand or prevent the EBT or cheat the lose the game.

Tetzimoc is definitely terrible as a commander, but he’s absolutely nuts in a Horobi, Death’s Wail brew as part of a board control strategy.

Mishra is actually not bad in commander because he effectively makes your artifacts uncounterable. It would make much more sense to put a creature with Grandeur or one of the Myojin in his slot because Grandeur you actually can't use at all since you have to discard a card with the same name, and the Myojin all have to be cast from hand to get their counters so you have to jump through hoops to get their special abilities.

Shout out to all the Myojin who are Vanilla Commander since they trigger on Cast from hand.

The best answer is all of the myojins, considering they all have a very similsr issue to ohage in that they re actuslly useless if you cast them from outside your hand. There are Some ways to bounce them after you cast them though, and ways to give them divinity/indestructible counters both depending on your colors. So i'd say the Most uselss of the ten is *probably* Myojin of lifes web. Theres F all bounce in mono green, and only 1 card (an artifact, even) can put a divinity counter on it. Only points in its favour is if you Do get that counter on it, then you can proliferate to hell snd back, snd the fact itzs so expensive isn t exactly a problem so much.

Phage is a power move. Win Commander without playing your commander.

For Mishra just get something that turns the cards in your deck and hand into artifacts, of which there are like 3 in those colors?

See the thing with Mishra is. If they were to ever print an artifact that allows you to have as many copies as you want in your deck. Then Mishra would instantly be the top choice for it as long as it was in Grixis.

Ive been playing phage for months now, its not only one of my most fun decks but also has an obscene win rate.

I've built Mishra in a shadowborn apostle shell. Get some tutors to get your "everything is an artifact" pieces and rip out all those demons

I just think the mishra interactions are dope and interesting, because it's interacting in a singleton format where it really has no business being. It definitely isn't as good as a commander that has unreliant functionality directly from the zone like kenrith for example.

Mishra still works with Biotransferrence and Persistent Petitioners, Rat Colony, Relentless Rats, and Shadowborn Apostle. Theoretically, this means you could run a Demon/Rats theme with changelings and make Mishra sort of work...

I have phage in a commander deck that I only use against people I hate playing.

None are artifacts.....yet

Difficult to use but they most certainly CAN work, and work well at that. Here's a couple that REALLY don't work well as commanders... Tivadar of Thorn and Rashida Scalebane. These will do literal nothing if you're not facing a goblin or dragon deck and there's a whopping... one card in white that will let you change the type of an opponent's creatures (Shields of Velis Vel).

Except I have seen multiple Phage decks and they work just fine

Isn't there a land called commander Beacon that let's you add your commander to your hand, i think its called Command Beacon? I'm pretty sure Phage would be dangerous with that land. And I'm sure there's cards that let's you play lands from graveyards too.
