Which is more important for weight loss: hormones or calories? I would say, for most people, its hormones. This is because the majority of people are already pretty good about keeping an eye on their calories. And if calories were the problem, they would already have lost their weight.
Both calories are hormones are important for regulating your weight but I've found that hormones become more important as you have more weight to lose.
And calories become more important the closer you are to your ideal body weight.
If you are someone who has more than 15-20 stubborn pounds to lose that aren't being managed by calories, then it may be time to check out these 4 hormones.
These hormones all have the ability to help you lose weight by targeting different functions in the body:
*note: these hormones should only be used if you are DEFICIENT or low in them. You wouldn't want to take them for weight loss if your levels are normal.
1. Testosterone. Testosterone is important for both men and women and it works to help build muscle, enhance mood, and help with energy.
2. Progesterone. Progesterone is primarily important for women where it acts to antagonize the effects of estrogen. High levels of estrogen promote weight gain and progesterone counteracts this effect.
3. Thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormones, especially T2 and T3, are very important for regulating metabolism and can be used by both men and women.
4. DHEA. DHEA is a weak androgen but also provides additional functions in the body. It's relatively easy to get and some studies show it may be beneficial for weight loss.

1. Testosterone (men/women) - for lean muscle mass; check levels bottom 25% 2. Progesterone (women >35) - estrogen antagonist; low P means Estrogen dominance 3. Thyroid (women) - regulates weight and metabolism; T3, T2; check FT3 and Ft4 levels 4. DHEA ( ?) - building block for estrogen and testosterone; weak nature

Not that anyone cares, or ever wants to hear it or believe it, I am the healthiest eater & a fat person. It's even more fun when stating I was slim all of my life, until 45 when in full, natural menopause led to hypothyroidism and severe adrenal fatigue/insufficiency. No one cares. TRUST me. No matter what doctor I visit, book, diet, medication, etc. No one cares. I am just that-fat-woman. Of course I am hyper self conscious about it. My body hurts. It's become weak. Exercise used to be a daily lifestyle. Now after work I need to get home and lay down. I am learning to take care of my needs but would REALLY like to lose weight and see how much better I could feel at age 57. The ONLY way I lose weight now is to not eat anything. I mean nothing. Which is terribly unhealthy. Cannot win. Thyroid disease = No help from doctors. No solution from doctors. No care from doctors. My new doctor never even heard of NDT: Natural Dessicated Thyroid And said he doesn't prescribe. LOL. USELESS!

I can relate to what you’ve written Wendy, and hope you find a way to feel better! My doctors do t even pretend to care and do t seem to understand. I have severe arthritis everywhere and have been using a red light therapy panel to help ease the pain. It’s been a couple months and I’m feeling better. It’s good for many things, maybe look into it? Wishing you all the best, Christina

Hi! I'm so glad I found your channel!! I've been diagnosed with Hashimotos 6 months ago and the doctor told me to only take selenium + l-methionine. Right now my TSH level is normal but slowly getting higher and my FT3 and FT4 levels are a little bit below the average and I'm getting worried if I can prevent this and lose weight before it's too late. I just took my first 25 pill of levothyroxine and I'm going to start the AIP diet, hopefully I'm gonna get better. So yeah overall just a big thank you for all the information!!! Edit: I also still have thymus while at 18 so idk if it's affecting the hashimotos somehow but the doc just told me today it's getting smaller

Coming up on 2 years since I finally replaced hormones with estradiol patch, progesterone and Armour thyroid in the proper dosage. It has not been quick, but I have lost 15 pounds without specifically dieting. My appetite is again normal, I believe because my body isn’t desperate for the missing hormones.

My thoughts: 1. More diet and more exercise. It really is calories in, calories out. I say that as someone who gained weight when my thyroid failed (and subsequently lost the weight). The formula still works. It's just that someone who is low will burn fewer calories. Which bring up the next point.... 2. There's no substitute for blood work. Get checked. Watching these videos, it's clear people often get a prescription and that's the end of it. Levothyroxine has to be dialed in. My initial prescription was a little too low....probably by design, as my doctor wanted to see how I responded to it. While you're there... 3. If you're getting blood work, have them check everything. Maybe your hormone levels are off, affecting your activity and energy levels. I recommend checking vitamin D and blood sugar too. You won't know without a check. Your doctor can interpret the results and make recommendations. On that topic.... 4. Make sure your doctor has the requisite focus. As you had your thyroid removed, surely you're seeing an endocrinologist as opposed to a GP. Still, IMO be sure his or her specialities are in thyroid-related issues. Endocrinology is reasonably broad. Good luck!

Hi health friends! Just a list of some things to try for those still looking for better balance and weight control. Also remember it's very easy to become estrogen dominant as we age due to various reasons which really packs on the pounds. Consider using DIM, iodine, selenium, OTC thyroid supplements, magnesium, mushroom supplements, pregnenolone and natural progesterone. They may help. I have a big weight problem and I am currently using or am going to start using all of these. Also consider liver support supplements and NDT thyroid meds (natural desiccated thyroid), some which can be purchased without a prescription from Thailand. Finally consider that candida may be a problem for some and there are some good OTC protocols for that. Wishing everyone the best in their health journey. We're all in this together!

@@abrown258 my sleep is fantastic but my weight is still way out of control. I seem to be doing everything right so I'm not sure what the sticking point is for me. I still have to add vitamin D and sea moss is a great idea. I need to up my physical activity as well. Going to try another candida treatment... Did one but didn't do it perfectly so who knows. Sometimes getting to our ideal health is a long process of trial and error.

Trying bioglan thyroid tables too. Also fluid away. Not much has changed. I just sleep, look after the baby and occasionally go for a walk. @@keithprice3369 I am not a Dr but I found that you can go to Jason Health on line and the site will guide you towards which tests to take for your concern (hormone levels, thyroid etc). You input your zip for the nearest testing (blood draw) clinic. It’s very easy site to navigate. For hormones, you want to test testosterone, progesterone, estrogen, cortisol and possibly DHEA-s. While you’re at it, you may want to add testing for insulin, diabetes and thyroid. If you want to start with a basic thyroid, and the test shows a deficiency, you could then go back and test the entire thyroid test procedure. Most tests are in the $20-30 range. Hope that helps.
