To elaborate further...I struggle to do a Franco Belgian bow hold while playing....my fingers just make a kind off Russian bow hold where my pinky floats unintentionally

1:23 dunno, Hilary Hahn's thumb is almost always completely flat, yet her sound is brilliant. So... Not sure if you know that well what you are talking about. That's actually the worst thing about many teachers. They consider their way of playing and their technique the most correct one. While there is a great deal of other ways of playing. I'm not saying that any nonsense works, of course, there are some general rules that one should follow to play well. But the thing is that they are general

This video is not for professional performers like Hillary Hahn or Vengerov. Once you start with the principled and standard way of posture, you can explore different positions in the future in order to adapt to a sound that suits you best. I started with the Suzuki method with the thumb on the slide. I haven’t seen a single performer with that posture. This lesson was for beginners who sought to perfect their « standard » bow posture before moving to intermediate level where interpretation and performance are much more explored within the sound, so slight alterations in the posture can be explored since they have developed flexibility in their hand using these standard systems. Heifetz did not follow the standard Galamian system, so it is absolutely true that it’s not the only way, however, it will be much more difficult for a beginning student to develop flexibility in the thumb if they do not keep it round first, as the pressure will not store in the joints but will be equally spread on each joint facilitating bow smoothness and mobility.

I got such long fingers that when i hold bow my pinky tends to get flat very easily even cos all my figers are extremely thin, i try to arch it up always but most of the times it remains almost flat, only arched a bit, is ir still ok or is better if i find a sort of different hold? And sorry for my mistakes im not english@@ViolinMechanic
