Really good breakdown on why you don't like these games, and nice to see a negative video without hating on people who do enjoy any of these games. If be keen to see you do the same style of list of games you'd thought you'd hate, that rock all the wrong boxes for you, but you really enjoyed.

Thanks. I really hope most people get the same vibe. Yeah, we all have preferences and games we do and don't like. It someone likes a game I don't, that's cool with me, doesn't mean they are wrong or the game is necessarily trash (unless it's Life, lol). That's a great idea for a video. I did one for games I like more than their rankings (it's called Why Do You Hate These Games?). But that would be a different perspective. I wonder if I have enough games that would flesh out the list. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks for this presentation. I do enjoy “Splendor” as a quick “ engine builder” that also makes for a relatively easy game for non-gamer players to catch on how to play after a five minute teach.

hahahaha. I had the opposite effect! Hey, it does sound great. And honestly if you had an adult who loves the depths of complicated pure strategy games but was fine with childish silliness, it could be perfect. In fact, with enough convincing part with my copy for $200 (or you could grab it off Amazon new for $17 :)

I 100% agree with your opinion on Splendor BUT!!!!! I just got Pokémon Splendor from eBay and OMG! The new Evolution mechanic makes the game so good! I love!

Well now, that does sound interesting. There's a battle in my soul. I don't like Splendor or IPs, but an evolution mechanic sounds AWESOME!!!

To answer your question and I should rightfully get flak for this but I just hate Terraforming Mars. I should like it. I like tableau builders. I like the strategic map placement. I’ve played the game at least a dozen times and even won most of those games! But it’s so frustrating to play! When I’m playing it’s like I’m feeling awful in my bones. I hate the way the cards are drawn, I hate the high variance between good and bad cards and strategies, I hate the random incidental resource destruction that mostly just hits plants. I just have a visceral negative emotional reaction to the game. I can’t for the life of me rationally put why I hate it. When my partner mentioned possibly getting the game when we moved, I told him “If you do I am going to win every game and hate it.” We haven’t bought it.

Sounds like you really don't like it, haha. But yeah, that's what makes talking about games so cool. You might have one that really doesn't land with you and it's one so many other people really enjoy. Hope people got that for the most part in the video. We're not saying everyone has to hate these games too, but they don't make us happy. I've never played TM. Just Ares Expedition and even that I enjoy the coop mode. So I'm 2 steps removed from specific feedback. I know in Ares Expedition one thing I do like about the coop mode is passing cards. It really balances out the fact that some cards are way better than others. Or if you draw only plants, thats cool. You can be the teammate that focuses on plants. I've had games where I drew poorly and my teammate did 70% of the work. In coop that's fine, but it makes you wonder how those same draws would have felt in competitive mode. Thanks for watching and giving a game you hate.

You want to know who the audience for Survive is? It's me. This and Downfall of Pompeii are excellent games for groups that love "take that." It is excellent for kids who are'nt so young that they get their feelings hurt by being attacked. The take that really isn't even that bad because you have to kill someone, it's just a question of who you attack. As such it is a game about negotiation, and statistics. The variable numbers on the bottom of the meeple add to the mystery and strategy. For people who love pure strategy, sure it's got problems, but it's still a Great game.

I could almost envision this alternate reality where I was introduced to Survive in the perfect, ideal group of people who loved it. Maybe it would have landed much better with me. I didn't love it, couldnt find people who it fit well with, but I could see that group existing. Thanks for checking out the video. Sorry the first one out of the gate was one you like. If it means anything, being first means it was the game I felt least strongly about.

Life is candy land for adults who are disappointed by how their actual life turned out. Oh wow i got the princess pepperment card is pretty much the same rush as oh wow i got the doctor card when youre 40 years older.

I really like Pendulum, but then again I've never played any other real-time games, so perhaps I don't know any better? I appreciate that it's simple with the exchange mechanism, because if you are playing against other people who are also good at the game, even the simple things are a lot to keep track of at such a fast pace. I will say that the instructions are some of the worst and most confusing I have ever read though. xD Every section references another section like it's a 'find your own adventure' story.. except the goal is to find a well written coherent explanation of each part of the rules. xD

Haha, that's such a funny way to pick on a rulebook, choose your own adventure style, you never know which page is next 🤣. Man, rulebooks make you want to rip your hair out sometimes. Then you read a good one and it's so refreshing and seems so simple. I didn't get into too much depth because I didn't want the video drag on forever, but Pendulum had an interesting trajectory for me. Got it used for a great price (I typically enjoy games more if I feel like I got them for a steal, lol) and was super excited for something different. Plays 1-2 games wrapping my head around it. Thought it was cool. Time went by and I played a few more times and started having some doubts. Then it really just didn't hold up for me. I guess you could say I got my value out of it though, haha. Glad you like it! It's one I really wanted to like more.

@@boardgameplaysI have genuinely never thought of getting board games second hand before. Seems like that would save a lot of money. lol I would be interested if you had any recommendations for games similar to Pendulum that you liked better? Or just real-time games you liked better. I think it's an interesting genre, and perhaps that may be speaking as someone with ADHD for whom this type of game really resonates with. Also, unsure if you've done so already or if the idea is toooo niche. But personally, I think a top 10 video for the games with the worst most convoluted instructions could be a really fun video. I'd be on the edge of my seat to see which one comes up next. lmao Also perhaps a good way to get certain games you wouldn't normally pit against eachother in the same video.

@@SamuelHawke I've found 90% of the time 2nd hand games aren't worth it. But you once in a while hit the jackpot. Something like 5 games for $50 is sweet. I'm also pretty patient though. There are times when you will miss the peak hype of a game waiting for a good deal on it. My favorite real-time game is Kitchen Rush. Rush MD is a reworking of it and also good. Both fun, chaotic, cooperative real-time games. I think the coop nature cuts out lots of fights. I've never done a worst instructions video, but it's something on my mind a lot. I recently learned Earth and Flamecraft. Those rulebooks are a thing of beauty. Same with Spirit Island, such a clear rulebook for a hard game. But I do have 2 bad rulebooks that immediately come to mind. Could be a very fun video.

Thanks for the input. Normally I completely agree with you. Like, if I say a game stinks it's clearly my opinion, if people just want what the masses say and not a personal opinion they should just look up a game's ranking. Whether a game is good or bad is always an opinion so comments like "how dare you not like this game" are somewhat silly. However, in this particular video I was worried it would come across as misleading, because I really do have bunches of games that I dislike more than Pendulum, Eldritch Horror, etc... But I wanted to be clear that these games are the worst of the ones I've actually played several times. Worst of the ranked games.

Not a bad list. I'm one of those who liked Legend of Drizzt. In fact, I bought all of the Adventure System games and mix them together. I share them with friends who like video games / RPGs but don't do board games. It's a great way to show them that not all board games are Monopoly. Which is, of course, the worst game ever made.

Me picking on dungeon crawls is a running joke/theme on the channel. Someday I'll probably find one I like and have to change my opinion, lol. I think it's cool people enjoy them actually and honestly if I was playing one in a group of people having a blast, I'd have a great time and feed off the energy. But not something I seek out. But super happy we see eye to eye on Monopoly. I said not all games in the video we necessarily bad games...,but there are a couple exceptions 🤣

@@boardgameplays "Terrible, terrible game. Stop selling it, take it off the shelf." Wow, incredibly harsh. Yes, you play with a clock, 25 minutes per player (only two). If you're playing a casual multi-player game, then people should not be taking minutes to play a word. Of course, the same thing DOES happen in lots of other board games too.
